Chapter 265: Chapter 262
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh..."
The cold wind howled relentlessly, and today's wind was very strong. It cut through the air, cold and biting.
Bryan, with his plump body curled up, stood at the main gate of Sedona City, his hands and feet occasionally shaking. He was beginning to miss the warm stove at home.
"Why haven't they arrived yet? At this rate, I'm going to freeze stiff!" Bryan stretched his head forward, trying to see the road leading to the docks.
His father, from Sakura City, was supposed to arrive. The letter he received yesterday said that he would arrive today. Bryan couldn't understand why his father had to come to Sedona City. Why not stay at home in this cold winter?
"Seriously, why come now, of all times? Why not earlier or later? Today is supposed to have two amazing boxing matches!"
Bryan grumbled to himself, but had no intention of leaving. He was pondering the reason for his father's visit to Sedona City. After all, his father hadn't left Sakura City in almost a year.
"Speaking of which, could they be here to take me back to Sakura City?" Bryan raised an eyebrow, then shook his head decisively. "No way, I'm not going back. Life in Sedona City is so much better. Even being a city lord in Sakura City wouldn't be as good as living here."
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh..."
Half an hour later, when Bryan felt like his whole body was about to freeze, he finally saw some figures approaching in the distance.
Thud, thud, thud…
Carriages were slowly making their way toward him, the carts covered by curtains, looking like little mountain mounds. This left Bryan a bit confused, as it wasn't his father's convoy.
"Whoosh..."
The horses exhaled hot air, struggling in the cold weather, with thick burlap sheets draped over their bodies for warmth.
"What are these? There are even seven carriages?" Bryan moved to the side of the road to let the carriages pass.
He didn't dare stop them to ask questions. There were knights on either side of the carriages, and their sharp eyes were enough to intimidate anyone.
Bryan knew that these were experienced knights. The fact that Lord Lucas had dispatched such knights for an escort clearly meant that whatever was in the carriages was of great importance.
Once the carriages entered Sedona City, Bryan let out a sigh of relief. Living in Sedona City, one had to understand certain rules—like not causing trouble. No matter your status, if you broke the rules, you'd first have to visit the Guard Division.
"Huh? They're here!"
After waiting for so long, Bryan finally saw the Lord of Sakura City, leading a group of 400 people. From a distance, it was clear—no, nearly 50 knights were in front, leading the way.
Tony didn't expect such a large group to arrive in Sedona City today, especially with several nobles coming together, each bringing quite a number of followers. At first, he thought it might be an invasion and almost led soldiers to confront them.
However, as they got closer, he realized it was Sakura City's Lord, along with a few unfamiliar nobles. According to Sakura City's Lord's introduction, they seemed to be lords of other cities as well.
For the safety of Sedona City, Tony had followed along the whole way—perhaps it could be said that he was supervising, if not outright overseeing.
Sakura City's Lord was wrapped in several layers of fur clothing, his body curled up like a ball. He was being carried forward by knights on a litter.
"It's so cold," Sakura City's Lord muttered, his teeth chattering from the freezing cold, clicking together with every tremor.
They had walked all the way from the dock to the city without any horses, and the knights around them just coldly watched, not offering any help. Sakura City's Lord felt that if this continued, he might just freeze to death.
Furthermore, he hadn't seen his youngest son at the dock—why wasn't he there to greet his own father? Had he gotten so bold in the outside world that he couldn't even come to welcome him?
"Father, you're here!"
Just as that thought crossed his mind, Bryan's voice of greeting reached his ears, lifting Sakura City's Lord's spirits slightly.
"Quick, get inside the city, find a warm place," Sakura City's Lord hurriedly urged.
He desperately needed a warm place to save himself from the cold. Sakura City's Lord even began to wonder if he should have just stayed home during the winter.
"Alright!" Bryan quickly nodded. He glanced around the group and noticed many unfamiliar faces. However, he recognized a few, namely the lords of nearby cities. He found it odd that these lords would be accompanying his father. What could be the reason for their visit?
"Father, what about them?" Bryan asked softly, wanting to take his father home.
"They came along too. Arrange something for them, and later we'll visit Lord Lucas," Sakura City's Lord waved his hand, signaling Bryan to handle it.
"Ah? Okay." Bryan was momentarily stunned, but after a sharp glare from Sakura City's Lord, he obediently led the way. For such a large group, there was really only one place to accommodate them, the Drunken Night Restaurant.
"Just like the rumors say, the buildings are very orderly."
"Indeed, it's quite impressive. Lord Lucas is truly a genius. Comparing this city to mine, it's a huge difference."
"Isn't that why we're here? To learn from Lord Lucas."
"…"
Bryan, walking ahead, furrowed his brows at the nobles' conversation. Why did it seem like these people were here to take advantage of things?
Could it be that his father was involved too? Lord Lucas wasn't as foolish as the pig-tribe beastkins. Bryan hoped these people wouldn't be too reckless.
The longer Bryan stayed in Sedona City, the more he was in awe of Lucas's greatness and his boundless creativity. He held great respect for Lucas.
As for Sakura City's Lord, he remained silent, only observing quietly. He had come today, not because of his own will, but was urged by a few other city lords. However, that didn't mean he was foolish.
He too wanted to see what was so different about Sedona City. In just a few short months, the city had become the talk of nearby cities. There were all kinds of rumors, but most of them praised Sedona City.
"There's really nothing that special," One of the city lords sneered, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "The houses are a bit neater, the roads are a bit wider, but other than that... Those traveling merchants are making such a big deal out of this, dragging me out here in the middle of winter just to see this?"
Sakura City's Lord nodded in agreement, seemingly convinced by the idea that there was nothing particularly remarkable about Sedona City. Wide roads, neatly arranged houses—these were things that could easily be achieved with a little effort and investment.
Their purpose in visiting was to see if there were any aspects of Sedona City that could be emulated, or perhaps to explore the possibility of some cooperation. However, from the looks of things, they were growing increasingly disappointed.
Bryan, walking ahead, couldn't help but smirk. He hoped this foolish city lord would continue to spout such idiotic remarks. After all, it was winter—what could anyone expect to see? Everyone was huddled inside, resting, and even the rowdy children were reluctant to step outside.
