Starting Today I'll Work As A City Lord

Chapter 262: Chapter 259

The next day, on the commercial street, next to the money exchange, a shop named 'Imperial Whisper' quietly opened.

In Sedona City, once something happens, word spreads quickly, especially when it involves the opening of the legendary perfume shop.

By noon, many people had gathered outside the shop. For instance, Bryan was dragged there by his wife, and they even ran into Joe at the entrance.

"Mr. Joe, are you here to see the perfume as well?" Bryan greeted with a light smile. He didn't mention buying it because he couldn't afford it—each bottle of perfume cost several gold coins, and it would take him months to save up for one.

"Yes! It really surprises me that perfume has appeared in Sedona City." Joe replied with a sense of amazement. In the royal capital, perfumes were all by reservation, so it was quite astonishing to see perfume being sold in such a remote area.

"Shall we go in and take a look together?" Bryan politely suggested, leading his wife toward the shop.

Once inside, they saw Nicole. People in the city were somewhat familiar with the assistant to the city lord.

"Miss Nicole, I heard you have perfume here?" Joe asked straightforwardly.

"Yes, we have five different grades of perfume at Imperial Whisper." Nicole replied softly.

She hadn't expected that the young master would move so quickly. He had just created the perfume yesterday, and today he was already opening a store to sell it.

The perfume shop had been decorated by Lucas in advance. It wasn't large—quite a small shop, actually—but the interior was entirely made of wooden shelves, with wooden boxes neatly arranged on them. There was also a small tilted sign next to the shelves, which displayed descriptions of the perfumes.

"Five grades?" Joe blinked in surprise. Did the perfumes here have that many varieties?

"Yes, the perfumes are divided into levels based on their price," Nicole nodded gently. She pointed to the wooden shelves behind her and said softly, "The three lowest grades are on the shelves behind me. You can browse them at your leisure."

Since it was the first day of opening, Nicole had to be there to oversee things, but after today, she wouldn't need to be involved as much. The maids who had been brought from the castle had been trained in advance, and last night, they only needed to quickly review the perfume knowledge.

"Huh? It's so cheap? Only 88 silver coins?" Joe's eyes widened as he stared at the sign with the price.

Item No. 5 Women's Rose Light Perfume:

Price: 88 silver coins.

Origin: Sedona City Perfume Laboratory.

Craftsmanship: Extracted through 88 complex processes from rose petals, and after seven days of careful production, this perfume is finally completed.

Suitable for: Women!

Shelf life: 180 days.

"Sss..."

After reading the description, Joe couldn't help but gasp, instantly feeling that this No. 5 rose light perfume was high-end and elegant.

"Huh? The shelf life is actually 180 days? How is that possible?" Joe exclaimed in disbelief.

He had used perfume before and had even bought a bottle as a birthday gift for his daughter, Dahlia. With Dahlia's sharp intelligence, she quickly discovered the flaws in the perfume and told him about it, so he never bought perfume again.

But now, the perfume in front of him, which advertised a shelf life of 180 days, was something that had never existed in perfumes before. The perfumes sold in the capital city only explained how to use them, and that was the end of it.

Joe continued to look at the descriptions of several more bottles of perfume and finally found something different.

Item No. 4 Men's Rose Light Perfume:

Price: 1 gold coin.

Origin: Sedona City Perfume Laboratory.

Craftsmanship: Extracted through 108 complex processes from rose petals, and after twelve days of careful production, this perfume is completed.

Suitable for: Men!

Shelf life: 180 days.

….

After reading this, Joe understood the meaning behind some of the symbols on the signboards. For instance, the numbers indicated the different tiers of perfumes, and the perfumes were categorized into male and female versions.

Moreover, the more complex the craftsmanship and the longer the production time, the more expensive the perfume. The No. 4 tier, for instance, had a price of one gold coin per bottle.

….

"Dear, can we buy a bottle of the No. 5 Women's Rose Light Perfume?" Bryan's wife asked softly.

"Sure!" Bryan replied immediately, subtly shifting his gaze away from the No. 3 perfume, which cost four gold coins. Compared to the No. 5 perfume, he could definitely afford it, though it would still be a bit painful for him.

"Yay!" Bryan's wife exclaimed joyfully. She stepped forward to the counter and said to the attendant, "I'd like a No. 5 Women's Rose Light Perfume."

"Certainly, please wait a moment," The attendant replied gently. She quickly turned and retrieved a box from the lower shelf, placing it in front of Bryan's wife.

Bryan's wife immediately opened the box and found it filled with bits of cloth, with a pure white ceramic bottle in the center. A label was attached to the bottle, reading: Item No. 5 Women's Rose Light Perfume.

Bryan's wife felt that the ceramic bottle looked quite expensive. She struggled a little to pull out the oak cork, and when she did, a faint rose fragrance wafted out.

"Wow! This is perfume? It smells so good!" Bryan's wife immediately put the cork back in and cradled the bottle in her arms like a treasured item.

Bryan, who was watching his wife smile with delight, couldn't help but shake his head. He imagined that tonight, he could test what his wife smelled like after applying the perfume.

"Ahem... Lord Bryan, you're drooling," Joe said, trying hard to suppress a laugh, pointing it out tactfully.

"Uh..." Bryan awkwardly wiped the corner of his mouth and chuckled sheepishly.

Joe nodded and then stepped toward Nicole, politely asking, "Miss Nicole, may I ask where the other two tiers of perfume are?"

"They're on the second floor. The first tier costs twelve gold coins, and the second tier costs eight gold coins." Nicole said with a gentle smile.

"Uh..." Joe was taken aback. He suddenly felt like he hadn't brought enough money.

"May I go up and take a look?" Joe asked courteously.

"Of course!" Nicole nodded and turned to lead the way.

Soon, the two of them reached the second floor, followed by a few other merchants. Anyone visiting a perfume shop like this usually had some wealth to spare.

Once they stepped onto the second floor, Joe immediately felt that the atmosphere had elevated, as the wooden boxes on display were much fewer. A maid was already standing by, waiting.

"Miss Nicole, what are the main differences between the number one perfume and the other ones?" Joe asked curiously.

"The scent of the number one perfume is twice as strong as the number two, and its longevity is also double. Furthermore, it is extremely rare, with only three hundred bottles produced per year." Nicole replied slowly.

She admired the way Young Master made up such elaborate explanations; the perfume was simple to make, but he had claimed it was crafted using very complex techniques.

"I'll take a bottle of number one perfume," Joe immediately decided after hearing that only three hundred bottles were produced per year. He thought it would be the perfect gift for his daughter, Dahlia, whose birthday was just around the corner.
