Starting Today I'll Work As A City Lord

Chapter 219: Chapter 217

"Young master, should I go and take care of that count…" Mina said, her hand gesturing at her throat.

"Smack."

Lucas raised his hand and playfully slapped Mina's rounded ass, saying with irritation, "That's the dumbest idea."

"Ah." Mina's cheeks flushed red as she covered her ass, shooting Lucas an annoyed glance.

"Hmph." Annie turned her head away, not wanting to watch the two flirt. Then she glanced at the paperwork on the desk and felt utterly defeated. When would she get to go out shopping? She envied Ayesha and her ample bosom a little.

"Bang.."

The study door was suddenly pushed open.

Lucas stared in astonishment at Nicole, who stumbled in, swaying as she walked. She was holding a ceramic jar, her face flushed, looking a bit dazed, and her speech was somewhat slurred.

"Young master, I—I got the wine you wanted… Do you want to give it a taste?"

Lucas slapped his forehead, quickly rising to support Nicole. As he approached, he caught a strong whiff of alcohol; this little girl had definitely had too much to drink.

"Come, come, sit down first." Lucas helped Nicole into a chair and reached for the ceramic jar.

"It's delicious, so good…" Nicole leaned against Lucas, mumbling with a dazed expression in her eyes. Her blonde hair fell loosely around her, giving her the appearance of a beautiful drunkard.

"…" Seeing this scene, Lucas didn't need to ask any questions; he could guess that Nicole had likely distilled the alcohol and decided to sample it herself, ultimately getting herself drunk.

He looked at the ceramic jar in his hands and smelled the opening, a rich aroma of wine wafted out, making Lucas's eyes light up. The fragrance was already much better than the beer of this era.

"Hmm…"

After taking a sip, Lucas raised his eyebrows. The alcohol content was probably around twenty to twenty-five percent, significantly stronger than the seven or eight percent of beer typical in this era.

"It seems it was only distilled once."

Lucas murmured. With a distilled liquor like this, if he marketed it, it would likely be snatched up by many people. As for stronger alcohol, he wasn't planning to sell that just yet.

Lucas sighed, shaking his head at the sight of Nicole. "Drinking too much, huh?" He watched as her soft body twisted slightly, her delicate hands tugging at her clothing.

"Hey, hey…" His brow twitched as he noticed her clothes slipping, revealing her fair shoulder and the faint outline of her undergarments.

"Honestly, getting drunk like this." He muttered, raising the ceramic jar toward Mina, who immediately understood. She stood up and took the jar from him.

"Let me handle this, young master. I'll make sure she doesn't get into any more trouble." Mina said, her expression serious yet somewhat amused by the situation.

"Thanks, Mina." Lucas replied, relieved to have her assistance. He knew how easily things could spiral out of control if left unchecked.

As Mina began to help Nicole, Lucas couldn't help but chuckle softly to himself. This was just another day in his life—balancing the duties of a lord with the unpredictable antics of his household.

With winter approaching, he needed to ensure that the territory was well-prepared, especially with the increased number of beastkins who were now part of their workforce. They had hearty appetites but were also diligent workers.

"Can't waste too much grain on brewing," He thought, remembering the upcoming challenges. "We have to save enough for the winter and for the beastkins."

Lucas carried Nicole out of the study room, her light frame resting comfortably in his arms. He could feel her warmth against him, and despite the situation, he couldn't help but smile at how adorable she looked, her cheeks flushed and her hair tousled.

As he walked, he noticed Annie's envious gaze fixed on him. "Damn, Nicole is too cunning," she thought, her eyes sparkling with admiration. The way Lucas carried her was simply captivating—being held like that was a dream for many.

Meanwhile, Mina, with her cat ears twitching, eyed the ceramic bottle in her hand, which contained the potent wine. She had forgotten how long it had been since she last drank. The last time, she recalled, the taste was bitter and harsh—nothing like what one would expect from a good drink.

Should she give it another try? A mischievous thought crossed her mind: what if she pretended to be drunk? Would Lucas carry her to her room like he did with Nicole?

Annie shared similar thoughts. She glanced at the bottle Mina held and quickly approached her. "Mina, can I try a taste? I'm curious about what it's like." She said, her voice low and eager.

"You want to drink too?" Mina replied in surprise, then narrowed her eyes playfully. "Annie, are you looking to act drunk as well? Hoping for the young master to carry you off to your room?"

"W-what are you talking about?" Annie stammered, her fox tail swaying back and forth nervously. "I'm just curious about the taste. Besides, I can handle my alcohol; I used to drink a lot."

Mina raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "Really? Since when? I don't recall seeing you with any drinks before."

"Uh… well, maybe not recently, but I can definitely handle it." Annie insisted, her ears twitching slightly as she tried to maintain her composure.

"Fine, but just a small taste." Mina relented, opening the ceramic bottle. The aroma wafted out, filling the air with a rich scent that promised a good experience.

As they prepared to sample the wine, Lucas continued on his way, unaware of the brewing mischief behind him. With the challenges of the baron and the events unfolding, Lucas needed to keep his focus sharp, but a little fun in the household wouldn't hurt. After all, they all deserved a moment of lightheartedness amidst the looming tensions.

Mina watched in amusement as Annie took a daring swig from the ceramic bottle, her expression a mix of skepticism and curiosity. "Really? You can drink a lot?" Mina's eyes narrowed, doubtful of Annie's bravado.

"Of course. Everyone always says I can handle my drinks." Annie replied, her confidence unwavering.

"Are you sure you're not just fooling yourself?" Mina raised an eyebrow, sensing something was off. So she took the jar from Annie's hands.

"What? Are you saying they're just humoring me like a child?" Annie's eyes widened.

"Very likely." Mina teased, her gaze drifting momentarily to Annie's chest, which was slightly pronounced under her clothing, accentuated by her undergarment.

"Y-you. You mischievous cat. You're getting worse." Annie huffed, flustered. In a sudden burst of defiance, she snatched the ceramic bottle back from Mina and took a hefty gulp.

"Cough, cough, cough..." Annie sputtered as she set the bottle down on the table, covering her mouth with her hand, her pale cheeks flushing a deep crimson.

"This is... good wine." Her voice turned soft and dreamy, with a hint of tears forming in her eyes. "I can drink more…"

But before she could finish her thought, her vision blurred, and she swayed dangerously in her chair.

"Wait, Annie—." Mina gasped, but it was too late. Annie tipped over, collapsing onto the seat, completely out of it.

Mina burst into laughter, unable to contain her amusement at the sight. "Looks like someone really can't handle their alcohol." She shook her head, both entertained and slightly worried about Annie's sudden incapacity.

"Should I call the young master?" She pondered, glancing at the door he had exited through. But then again, it might be more fun to see how long Annie would stay out for, especially considering the competition between the two of them regarding who could drink more.

"Just a little taste won't hurt." Mina thought, eyeing the remaining wine in the ceramic bottle. She grabbed it and took a careful sip, savoring the rich flavor.

"Wow, this is even better than I expected." She mused to herself, a smile spreading across her face as she contemplated her next move.

Meanwhile, Lucas, unaware of the shenanigans unfolding in his absence, was coming to the study room after settling Nicole into her room.

Lucas stood frozen in the doorway, wide-eyed at the scene unfolding before him. Annie lay sprawled across the chair, blissfully unconscious, while Mina, with her flushed cheeks and starry eyes, clung to him like a vine.

"Wait, what just happened here?" Lucas blinked, trying to process the sight.

"Sh-shao...sha…" Mina stammered, leaning closer, her breath warm against his skin. "I...I still want more..."

"Seriously?" Lucas shook his head in disbelief, but the sight of her hanging onto him was both amusing and slightly alarming. "Is this how you two handle your drinks?"

"Meow." Mina purred playfully, her feline instincts kicking in as she rubbed her cheek against him like a cat seeking affection. "Don't you like it, masterrrrr?"

"Uh, yeah, sure," He replied, a mixture of confusion and reluctant amusement on his face. "But maybe we should get you both to bed first?"

"No, no. I can stay up. Just... one more drink, please." Mina insisted, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she swayed slightly, clearly not in her right mind.

"Just how did this happen?" He wondered aloud, shaking his head.

Mina leaned forward, propping her chin on her hands with a dreamy smile. "You're so strong, masterrr. Can you carry me too, like you did with Nicole?"

Lucas raised an eyebrow, suppressing a smile. "Is that what you want? To be carried around like some spoiled princess?"

"Maybe," She said playfully, her eyes sparkling. "But first, let's have a toast. To good wine and... and good friends."

"Okay, but just one toast," Lucas relented, pouring a small amount of the remaining wine into a cup for her. "And then it's straight to bed for both of you."

"Cheers." Mina exclaimed, raising her cup with enthusiasm. Lucas clinked his own cup against hers, amused by the turn of events.

"Cheers to that." He chuckled, taking a cautious sip himself.
