Chapter 217: Chapter 215
"Crack, crack..."
The sound of brittle tree branches breaking became increasingly frequent and louder, carrying far into the quiet night sky.
Freya and Bella were leading the way. Strategy? Not needed; in the face of absolute strength, all small tricks are meaningless.
"Who goes there?"
A knight on guard at night suddenly looked up into the darkness, and the next second, he saw a pair of ember eyes and a large sword reflecting white light.
"Uh..."
Unable to even make a sound, his head flew off, blood splattered, but the sound of the armor being sliced through was still carried.
"Clang!!!"
The knights in the camp immediately got up, drawing their single-handed swords, long spears, and other weapons.
"Enemy attack! Everyone, protect Young Master Adam!"
The captain of the knights raised his one-handed sword high, his eyes sternly scanning the darkness, sensing that there were enemies paying attention to him.
"What? We're under attack?"
Baron Adam scrambled out of his tent, occasionally tugging at his clothes in a panic. He exclaimed, "Could it be that Sedona City received news ahead of time? How dare they attack me? Could Baron Omar's disappearance really be related to Sedona City?"
The knight captain completely ignored Baron Adam's speculation. His gaze was filled with caution. The fact that the sentries on the perimeter were completely silent meant that...
"Everyone, be on alert. The enemy—" The knight captain began to speak, but was cut off...
"Whoosh, whoosh!!"
The sound of something cutting through the air came from the darkness, and the next second, a stone as large as a human head flew out of the darkness.
"Ah, ah..."
Many knights were hit by the stones, letting out cries of pain.
Due to the impact and the armor they wore, no one was killed, though some had broken bones or other injuries.
"Be cautious, the enemy is beastkins!" The knight captain was too familiar with this scene; throwing stones was a common tactic used by beastkins.
"Damn it, so it really was Sedona City's scheme. How dare they attack me." Baron Adam's face twisted in anger. When did the nobles in such a remote place become so bold? How dare they attack the son of a count?
In Baron Adam's view, Sedona City, which harbored beastkins, must have received advance notice of his plans to go there or had uncovered the truth about Baron Omar's disappearance, and thus sent beastkins to attack them.
Even if they failed, Sedona City could always blame the beastkins. This self-delusion instantly made Baron Adam think that Lucas was not an ordinary figure.
"Kill!"
A cold, sharp command rang out. Freya, holding a large sword with one hand, charged out of the darkness and into the midst of the knight squad, swinging her sword with full strength.
"Clang! Thud…"
A knight managed to block one strike but was immediately cut down by the second swing. Freya's sword strikes were powerful and forceful, and her movements were incredibly agile. Often, the knights couldn't react in time before they were slain.
Of course, Freya also faced pressure; four or five knights were still managing to hold off her relentless attacks.
"Kill!"
Bella was the second to charge into the knight squad. Her dual-wielded swords created afterimages as she struck. Before the knights could react, they were pierced through the throat or eyes.
The areas not covered by armor were especially targeted more intensely, with the speed of killing even faster than Freya's.
Soon, the two of them were surrounded by knights. Even though their combat prowess exceeded that of these knights, it was only a matter of time before they would be worn down.
"Kill, kill, kill!!!"
From the darkness, burly beastkins charged out, roaring like wild hunters. They wielded various distinctive weapons, such as stone axes, large swords, wooden clubs, and wooden forks.
"Hold them off?" The knight captain shouted, raising his longsword.
However, the next scene made the knight captain's face turn pale. beastkins kept pouring out of the darkness—at least three hundred of them—and they were all wearing armor. Though it was tattered, it could still absorb some damage.
One beastkin could easily take on two or three ordinary men. Even though his knights were trained, they might not fear beastkins in one-on-one combat, but these beastkins seemed like an entire beastkin army.
"Bang!"
A knight was sent flying by a charge. The attacker was an ox beastkin, standing two meters tall, wearing tattered armor but carrying a shield.
"Kill, kill!!"
The ox beastkin roared as it charged forward with its shield, smashing it into any knight in its path.
It was a one-sided battle. Without their horses, the knights' combat effectiveness was greatly reduced, and on the ground, they were no match for the 'well-armed' beastkins.
"What to do? What should we do?"
Baron Adam stared wide-eyed at the knight captain, panicked by the current situation, especially as he saw the female beastkin with dual swords charging toward him.
"I'll protect Young Master Adam and break through."
That was all the knight captain could think of. With the knights entangled by the beastkins, retreating was almost impossible. Turning and running now would only mean a quicker death.
"Alright, alright!" Baron Adam responded immediately.
"Follow me." The knight captain grabbed Baron Adam and led him toward the rear, with four or five knights following.
"Think you can escape? It's a bit too late for that, isn't it?"
Using other beastkins for cover, Bella quickly caught up with the knight captain and his group.
"Dare to touch me? My father is Count George"
Baron Adam spoke recklessly.
"Ha… Still spouting such foolishness, truly a noble." Bella's dark, piercing eyes gleamed with coldness.
Without further ado, she charged forward with her sword, swiftly dispatching several knights before confronting the knight captain.
"Clang, clang, clang!"
The two engaged in combat. Sweat beaded on the knight captain's forehead. Despite being a former member of the royal knight order, he was no match for this female beastkin.
"Die!"
Bella feinted a move, then her right-hand sword sliced under the knight captain's armpit, rendering him powerless. The sword thrust straight through, piercing his chest.
"Pfft…"
The knight captain's eyes widened in shock as he coughed up a spray of blood before collapsing backward.
"No, no, please don't kill me…" Baron Adam shouted in terror, his pants wet with fear, collapsing to the ground.
"…" Bella looked at the pitiful, exposed Baron Adam with disdain and disgust in her deep brown eyes. Her sword traced an arc…
"Pfft!"
A head flew off, blood splattering. This was the thirty-sixth noble to die by Bella's hand.
"…"
Half an hour later, the beastkins had thoroughly looted the battlefield, taking everything: horses, armor, swords, spears, and clothing. They moved the beastkin corpses away, leaving only a few smoldering fires and the occasional distant howl of wolves in the night sky.
"…"
"Bang!"
A body was overturned, revealing a bloodied figure staggering to his feet. His face was smeared with blood, and his armor had been stripped away.
"Cough, cough, cough…"
The figure clutched his chest, blood trickling from his mouth, eyes burning with hatred. He growled like a wounded beast, "Lucas of Sedona City, is it? You'll pay… You'll pay…"
