Ch. 0
Prologue.
The birth of a half-breed always brought a great calamity upon the village.
The woman who gave birth to the child would inevitably be burned alive, and the villagers who had lived alongside her would not escape unscathed either.
Most of the time, the village would be wiped out.
The Order did not recognize the union between demon and human. No, they abhorred it to the extreme, considering it one of the Seven Deadly Sins.
Yet there was a village that defied such a taboo. It was a small southern hamlet called Taharan.
A peasant woman had given birth to a half-breed child.
Half-human, half-demon.
Surrounding the pitch-black baby, the villagers were horrified.
“A demon’s child! We must burn it at once!”
“That’s right! Who knows what harm it will bring to the village!”
Shouts and curses filled the grain storage.
The baby, quietly listening, slightly furrowed its brows.
“L-look at its expression! H-how can that be the child of a human!”
“Quickly…!”
The baby was indifferent to the hostility around it.
It merely swept its gaze across its surroundings.
The demon’s characteristic red eyes left long shimmering trails.
At the baby’s seemingly composed demeanor, the villagers swallowed dryly.
The once noisy interior gradually fell silent.
An uncomfortable stillness hung in the air, until the baby opened its mouth.
“Are you done with your fuss?”
The voice was chillingly cold.
The villagers could not shake off the sense of incongruity. It was far too clear to be the first words of a newborn. All stepped back in confusion.
The baby added,
“If you are done, then I will propose a deal.”
A deal with a demon promised tangible rewards. It was entirely different from the blind prayers offered to the gods.
“The price is my life. Guarantee it.”
The baby had to survive. It did not know how it ended up in this damned world, but it had to keep its lifeline intact to gain the choice to uncover the secret or escape.
“Will you accept it?”
Kim Yohan had become the half-demon in the novel. Rather than panicking, he intended to deal with the immediate crisis first.
