Chapter 45: The White-Clad Priest
However, because the young man was not particularly devout, he naturally did not notice the many incongruities in Chang Wei's priestly attire.
Chang Wei, on the other hand, was pondering what kind of world this was. It looked somewhat like the opening scenes of Hellsing.
The problem was, wasn't it supposed to be the policewoman Seras and the old officer entering the church?
Moreover, this young man wasn't wearing a police uniform. Could he be a villager?
"Don't meddle. I just want to find a place to hide," the young man said, pulling out a pistol and aiming it at Chang Wei.
"Relax, child. No one wants to hurt you. The Lord… loves all mankind," Chang Wei said as he stepped out of the shadows. The occasional flashes of lightning outside illuminated his face, allowing the young man to clearly see the priest's visage.
In the instant their eyes met—
Boom—!!
It was as if an ocean of blood formed by the life essence of billions surged forward, and the world suddenly turned into a deep crimson sea. The overwhelming stench of blood filled the air, a boiling, suffocating aroma of fresh blood that made breathing agonizingly difficult.
In his ears rang a cacophony of screams, the anguished wails of billions of tortured souls crying out in despair, creating a terrifying symphony that made his hair stand on end.
Every instinct screamed danger. His primal biology was in full alarm, warning him that the entity before him was a predator, a calamity, an insurmountable terror he could only submit to and await death.
"Ahhhhhh!"
This visceral, sixth-sense response came from the depths of his being—an instinct that all living creatures possess. While humans had dulled these instincts due to comfort and safety, it didn't mean they would remain dormant when confronted with true danger.
Terrified out of his wits, the young man fired at Chang Wei.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The gunshots rang out in quick succession, but Chang Wei stood unscathed. The bullets fell harmlessly to the ground before him, their kinetic energy entirely absorbed.
Chang Wei dusted off his clothes, as if brushing away nonexistent specks of dirt.
Seeing this, the young man was so frightened that he fell to the ground, scrambling to escape. In the next moment, Chang Wei's hand clamped down on his shoulder.
"I've always believed in an eye for an eye, blood for blood. I won't let anyone go just because they're no threat to me. So, tell me—how do you want to die?"
The young man found Chang Wei's grip like an iron vice, rendering him immobile. Hearing the low, chilling voice beside his ear, he was terrified to the core and unable to think of a response.
"I-I didn't mean to..."
The young man suddenly came to his senses. What had just happened? Why had he panicked just from seeing the priest? After all, the man was strikingly handsome, enough to inspire envy.
Then, a gunshot.
Bang!
Watching the young man's headless corpse collapse to the ground, Chang Wei dropped the pistol in his hand.
"I don't know how to use guns. It misfired. I didn't mean to," Chang Wei said apologetically.
Although he didn't understand why the young man had suddenly gone mad and attacked him, Chang Wei magnanimously forgave him.
"Come to think of it, I'm at a loss here. I took multiple shots, and you only got one."
As Chang Wei prepared to leave the church to see if there were any vampires around, he suddenly heard voices outside.
Though still some distance away, the voices were loud enough, combined with Chang Wei's enhanced senses, for him to hear everything clearly.
"One man, two women? What a delightful combination," Chang Wei muttered.
He judged that the newcomers were heading toward the church. Choosing not to hide, he stood openly as the group cautiously opened the church door and entered in the dark.
This church was far too frugal—no lights, not even candles.
"Huh? Just two women?"
Chang Wei's pupils contracted as he saw what seemed to be clothes floating in midair. Oh, wait—that was a Black man.
"Father?"
Meanwhile, the trio had also noticed Chang Wei standing above them.
"Children, have you come to pray or to confess?" Chang Wei asked solemnly.
"Father, the outside is very dangerous. We're just seeking refuge," said one of the women, who had short hair and wore a daring outfit: a blue strapless top and an ultra-short skirt.
"Jill?"
Chang Wei gazed thoughtfully at the woman, who seemed to be the leader, before turning his attention to the dark-skinned, chubby man who appeared injured—he could smell blood. The other woman, dressed in a light blue professional outfit, was dismissed outright.
Just a vase, Chang Wei thought. His memory contained thousands of women far more beautiful than her, whom he could admire from every angle without obstruction.
Then it clicked.
"You know me?" Jill asked, surprised.
"No, but I've seen information about you," Chang Wei replied calmly.
Now he understood where he was: one of the legendary starting points of infinite survival horror, on par with Highschool of the Dead—the movie universe of Resident Evil!
But why was it the second movie? Did the first one just skip over entirely?
