Chapter 193: The Decade-Long Giant Guardians!
Judge Emerson, currently responsible for judge training under the Supreme Court's Judicial Talent Division.
Judge Jerome, currently overseeing judge promotions and evaluations in the Judicial Review Division.
Chief Justice Russell, head of the Judicial Circuit Court supervising regional judges across the four seas with authority to mobilize judicial vessels.
These three men, under the furious gazes of two giants and escorted by government personnel from the Supervision Department, walked forward with heads hung low. After all these years, these former grassroots officials had risen to become one chief justice and two senior judges. Never in their wildest dreams had they imagined such a day would come.
"Emerson, Jerome, Russell—do you admit that twenty-six years ago, you falsely claimed the World Government had captured Dorry and Brogy of the Giant Warrior Pirates, thereby deceiving Mr. Oimo and Mr. Kashii into guarding Enies Lobby's gates for a hundred years?"
Director Grover's stern interrogation carried the full weight of official justice, delivered with righteous authority.
"Yes."
"That's correct."
After a moment of silence, the three nodded painfully in admission. What else could they do? Claim they'd merely followed orders from their superiors? But doing so would surely bring disaster upon their families. They were no longer novices in officialdom. They understood perfectly well they'd been cast aside as sacrificial pawns. Since resistance was futile, they could only accept reality—at least by cooperating, only they would suffer.
"You! You bastards!!"
Kashii roared with such fury that his voice transformed into a gale-force wind, sending Director Grover's expensive suit and hair fluttering wildly.
"Damn you! You all deserve to die!" Oimo brandished his spiked club, his face equally contorted with rage.
For the giant race with a three-hundred-year lifespan, twenty-six years equated to roughly nine human years—not an unbearably long time. Yet anger still burned fiercely within them. Or rather, beyond the wasted years, what truly enraged the giants was the deception itself.
"Mr. Oimo, Mr. Kashii, given their judicial status, regulations prevent the Court of Justice from adjudicating their cases. Emerson and Jerome will be handled by our Supervision Department," Director Grover explained, recapturing the giants' attention. "However, Russell, as Chief Justice of the Judicial Circuit Court, holds secondary senior official rank and must be referred to the Grand Committee under the Supreme Executive Council."
"And how will you deal with them?" Kashii demanded through gritted teeth, while Oimo fixed the seemingly powerful director with a piercing stare.
"Emerson and Jerome—by the authority vested in me as Director of Supervision, I hereby revoke their judicial credentials and sentence them to death!" Grover declared without hesitation. The word "death" made Judges Emerson and Jerome tremble violently, their lowered faces etched with despair. "The execution shall be carried out immediately!"
Before Oimo and Kashii could react, the Supervision officers flanking the two condemned men drew pistols from their inner coat pockets.
Bang! Bang!
Two crisp gunshots later, both judges fell with bullet-ridden skulls, leaving everyone present stunned.
Nearby...
Chief Justice Russell knew he wouldn't die here, but his body still trembled uncontrollably from terror, his head and back already drenched in cold sweat.
"Th-this..."
Kashii and Oimo stared at the corpses lying in pools of blood, momentarily speechless. It wasn't the sight of death that shocked them, but rather how quickly it had happened.
"On their behalf, I offer you both my sincerest apologies for the deception," Director Grover said solemnly, lifting his head. "But I earnestly hope this won't make you resent the World Government, nor affect the friendship between us and the giant race."
The friendship he mentioned between the World Government and the giants dated back seventy-four years.
It had formed when four giant troublemakers, about to be executed by Marine Headquarters, were saved by Sister Carmel.
After that, Sister Carmel established the 'House of Lambs' in the giant kingdom of Elbaf—a sanctuary for homeless children regardless of race or status.
Using this as her base, she continuously supplied Marine Headquarters with giant warriors, forming what became known as the Giant Unit.
Thus, the World Government and the giants indeed shared excellent relations. Though Elbaf hadn't joined the World Government, their sheer strength meant they never had to go bridge-building in the East Blue.
Kashii and Oimo were well aware of this history, especially since the four captured giants had been members of their own Giant Warrior Pirates.
Seeing Director Grover's earnest attitude, they quickly waved their hands. "Of course, of course! Even among giants, there are bad apples. We understand—we won't blame you!"
While giants were generally rough and bold by nature, they were, interestingly, pacifists at heart.
Yes.
True pacifists—meaning they loved fighting anytime, anywhere, but disliked waging war indiscriminately. In other words, giants were actually quite gentle!
"That's wonderful," Director Grover said. "As mentioned earlier, we'll need to take Chief Justice Russell with us. But I assure you, his fate won't be pleasant—most likely imprisonment in Impel Down!"
"Fine, we trust you!"
After exchanging glances, Kashii and Oimo nodded, their faces finally breaking into smiles.
"Oh, one more thing."
As several black-clad agents cleaned up the two corpses, Director Grover seemed to recall something. "According to our intel, Captains Dorry and Brogy are still dueling on that 'Little Garden.' I assume you'll be heading there to meet them after this?"
"Exactly!"
"We definitely need to see them!" The two giants nodded.
"Perfect. Might I ask a favor of you both?" Director Grover inquired amiably, seizing the moment.
"Go ahead! Consider it our thanks for revealing the truth!"
Kashii laughed heartily, thumping his chest. In their eyes, the World Government had done them a great service by exposing the truth and punishing the culprit—saving them seventy-four years of wasted time.
This was absolutely a debt of gratitude!
"It's like this, a distinguished World Noble will be traveling soon. Could we ask you two to serve as escorts for a period of time?"
Hearing this request, Kashii hesitated and instinctively looked at Oimo beside him, asking, "What do you think?"
After some thought, the latter replied, "Being escorts isn't a problem, but wouldn't this conflict with our plans to meet our captains?"
"That won't be an issue," Director Grover explained simply. "Because the World Noble has expressed interest in meeting the two captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates from back then, so it's actually along the way."
Reassured by this, Oimo smiled at Kashii and said, "In that case, let's agree. How about ten years? Serving as his escort for ten years should repay the favor!"
"Agreed! That's only right!"
Kashii nodded emphatically, stood up and hoisted his giant axe onto his shoulder. Looking down at the short-statured director, he declared heartily, "We'll take full responsibility for that World Noble's safety for the next ten years!"
