Chapter 49: Chapter 49 – Tsunade Is Born
Because Tsunade was about to be born, Renya hadn't taken on any missions for the past few days and had even given Shimura Danzō and Koharu Utatane a few days off.
The two were overjoyed, happily enjoying this rare break.
...
A few days later, at the Senju Hashirama residence.
"What do we do? What do we do..." Senju Hashirama paced anxiously back and forth in the courtyard. "Sakurako is about to give birth... I wonder if it's a boy or a girl?"
Senju Fujikage stared at his father in confusion.
Shouldn't those be his lines?
Wasn't he the one becoming a father?!
Uzumaki Mito rolled her eyes in annoyance.
"Hashirama, stop making a scene."
"Haha, it's my first time becoming a grandfather. I'm a little nervous," Hashirama said, scratching his head sheepishly.
After a year of rest, Hashirama's injuries had fully healed.
But he could clearly feel that his body was no longer what it used to be.
His life force was not as vibrant as before.
Hashirama knew he didn't have much time left.
To keep Mito and Tobirama from worrying, he hadn't told them about this.
That's why he treasured every moment he had now.
When he found out he was going to be a grandfather, he was overjoyed.
He hadn't expected such a surprise in the final years of his life.
Just then, Senju Tobirama and Renya hurried over.
"How is it, big brother?" Tobirama asked nervously.
After all, the one about to be born was his grandchild, so of course he was anxious.
"Fujikage-san, are you alright?" Renya walked up to Fujikage.
Fujikage was sweating from his forehead, his face pale, and his legs slightly trembling.
Hearing Renya's question, Fujikage's voice trembled slightly.
"Renya, I... I'm a bit nervous."
He was truly worried for his wife and child.
Childbirth in the shinobi world was dangerous—one mistake, and both mother and child could be lost.
"Relax. Sakurako-san and the baby will be fine," Renya said gently.
He didn't think Fujikage's fears would come true.
After all, Tsunade would eventually have a younger brother, Nawaki.
At least before Nawaki was born, nothing would happen to Fujikage or Sakurako.
As for after that... Renya wasn't sure.
The original story never gave specific details about the two.
But since they lived in the capital under the protection of the daimyo, there probably wouldn't be any problems.
"Thank you, Renya." Fujikage's nerves eased a little.
It was his first time going through something like this—he'd be lying if he said he wasn't scared.
He was truly afraid something might happen to his wife and child.
Luckily, it wasn't long before the cry of a baby came from inside the room.
Everyone rushed to the door, full of anticipation.
"Fujikage, do you prefer a boy or a girl?" Hashirama asked his son.
"I... I like both," Fujikage replied, blushing.
The midwife opened the door, holding the baby in her arms, and said with a smile:
"Everyone, don't worry. The birth went smoothly. Both mother and daughter are safe!"
Upon hearing this, everyone immediately gathered around.
Hashirama took the baby in his arms and grinned broadly.
"Haha! It's a girl! I have a granddaughter!"
"Big brother, let me hold her!" Tobirama said eagerly.
Hashirama had moved too quickly—Tobirama hadn't even had time to react before the granddaughter was already in his arms.
"Tobirama, don't rush. Let me hold her a little longer," Hashirama said cheerfully.
Since the baby was already in his arms, how long he held her was up to him, right?
As for Tobirama? Who cared!
Renya had originally wanted to take a look at the newborn Tsunade, but unfortunately, there was no way to squeeze in.
Not just him—even Fujikage, the father, could only stand outside and watch his father and uncle fight over his child.
But Fujikage soon thought of his wife, and without even looking at Tsunade, he rushed into the room.
Seeing this, Renya raised an eyebrow.
He finally understood—Fujikage and Sakurako were truly in love. Tsunade was just an unexpected result...
"Hashirama, give me the baby."
Uzumaki Mito reached out. She wanted to hold her granddaughter too.
Hashirama was reluctant, but since his wife had spoken, he had no choice but to hand the baby over with a heavy heart.
"Sister-in-law, I haven't held her yet," Tobirama said weakly.
He'd been here first—how could she cut in line?
"Tobirama, don't rush. Let me take a look at my granddaughter first," Mito said with a smile.
"...Fine." Tobirama sighed.
He could only hope his sister-in-law would hand the baby over quickly.
"Alright, Tobirama."
No one knew how long had passed, but finally, after Tobirama's anxious wait, Mito was ready to hand the baby to him.
He reached out expectantly to take Tsunade.
He was full of anticipation.
Just then, Fujikage came out, supporting a weak Sakurako.
"Mother-in-law, may I see the baby?" Sakurako asked.
"Of course," Uzumaki Mito replied without hesitation, handing Tsunade over.
After all, Sakurako was the baby's mother.
Watching Sakurako take the baby, Tobirama felt like the sky had collapsed.
He'd waited so long, only for it to end like this?
Renya nearly burst out laughing at Tobirama's constipated expression.
This old guy was just too funny.
Uzumaki Mito noticed Tobirama's resentful look and sighed, spreading her hands.
"Tobirama, I had no choice. The baby's mother asked."
Senju Tobirama: "..."
Fortunately, in the end, Tobirama did finally get to hold.
His gaze as he looked at Tsunade was incredibly gentle.
Renya was completely stunned by this scene.
If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn't have believed this old guy had such a soft side.
Sakurako named the baby "Tsunade."
...
After Tsunade was born, everyone doted on her immensely.
Unfortunately, not long after, Fujikage and Sakurako took Tsunade with them to the capital.
Hashirama was devastated.
On the day they left, he clung to Fujikage's sleeve, crying and begging him to leave Tsunade behind.
Seeing his father acting so embarrassingly, Fujikage was a bit helpless.
In the end, he promised to frequently bring Tsunade back, and only then did Hashirama let go.
True to his word, Fujikage often returned with Tsunade every few weeks.
Getting to see his granddaughter so often made Hashirama and Mito overjoyed.
...
With that little episode over, Renya returned to his usual life as a shinobi.
It's worth mentioning that during one of Renya's missions, Senju Hashirama convened a Five Kage Summit and sold the captured tailed beasts to the various villages.
Uzumaki Mito used the Uzumaki clan's sealing techniques to seal the Nine-Tails into herself.
Other villages followed suit.
From then on, Jinchūriki began to appear.
