Chapter 16: Helping the Young One
"Captain Vaughn? Captain? Are you there?" I heard as the comms on my armor began blinking. It was 3 weeks into the month of leave. And I was currently watching Shield Legion fight a simulation.
"I am here, Commander." I said as I pressed a button, sending the message to Ahsoka.
"I believe Senator Amidala is in danger, could you help m-" She said but I cut her off.
"Understood, Commander. I´ll bring Cameron and Lucky. Where are we needed?" I said as I heard a sight of relief from the other side.
"I knew I could count on you, Vaughn. Senatorial Platform 03, be there as soon as possible." She said.
"I´ll be there, Commander." I said but cutting the comms and turning to Lieutenant Shield.
"I´ll be gone for some time, continue the simulations." I said as I turned around and walked off.
"Specialist Lucky and Corporal Cameron. Meet me outside the Republic headquarters in 5 minutes. Bring your DC15S and standard armor." I said into the comms, and I immediately got a reply.
"Yes, Sir."
"Understood, Captain." The response was.
I then made my way towards my chambers, were I dropped off my DC15A, only wanting to carry my DC17´s. I also got myself a vibro-knife.
...
The LAAT landed on the Platform just as Ahsoka ran up to Senator Amidala.
"Besides, I enjoy your company." I heard the Senator say as we reached within listening range. Cameron was on my right, and Lucky on my left. Both in their Phase 1 armour with some orange markings.
"Commander Tano, CT-0292, Vaughn, reporting for duty." I said as we reached them. Lucky and Cameron proceeded to do the same as all eyes turned towards us.
"Oh, almost forgot. This is Captain Vaughn, Captain of Lightning Company, I´m confident that he'll be of great help." I heard Ahsoka say. Captain Typho looked at us suspiciously, and Padme was slightly hesitant but allowed us to join them.
...
I walked beside Ahsoka as she suspiciously looked around, Lucky on my right and Cameron on Ahsoka's left.
There had been a single episode on board where Ahsoka believed the assassin to be, though it was a false alarm.
There were 4 Senate Guards assigned to our escort, and they had been straight up ignoring us. I suppose the trained humans looked down on us Clones.
As the Senators reached their room and entered to speak, I remained outside with Lucky and Cameron, Ahsoka sitting on the ground. Meditating.
However, a few minutes later she stood up and proceeded to walk in. And a minute later they came out, and Ahsoka signalled for us to follow them.
We were brought into a large room, with seats and a podium. This is the place Amidala would deliver her speech, I'm fairly certain.
"Yes, this is it. This is the place I saw in my vision." I heard Ahsoka say and they began discussing as I stepped forward, walking into the room.
It was quite large, and there were only a single entrance. But there was a clear weakness, and even I would have seen it even if didn't know what would happen.
"Do you see anything, Vaughn?" Ahsoka said as I turned towards them, where they had ended their talks and turned towards me.
"I'd suggest sending Senate Guards into the ventilation ducts." Was all I said as I pointed to it.
"I agree, good catch. Captain." Typho said as he nodded towards me, which I returned.
....
I found myself standing on Ahsoka´s right. Stood beside me.
Padme had begun her speech, and I had lost sight of Ahsoka, as she ran off.
I saw the muzzle of a sniper exit one of the ventilation vents, aimed straight at Padme. To think nobody saw it.
Both of my hands reached for my pistols as I turned to look at Cameron and Lucky. And they both nodded. They had seen it as well.
And with that I rushed forward as I unholstered both my pistols, Lucky and Cameron behind me.
"Senator! Get down!" I shouted as I jumped onto the table infront of Padme, completely shielding her as I aimed both my pistols at the ventilation duct and opening fire.
4 shots rang out, hitting the rifle, destroying the muzzle. Though a shot from the sniper rang out. Barely passing my shoulder and grazing Senator Padme, just in time for Lucky to jump on her, and getting her under the table.
I heard a number of shots from the ventilation ducts, Ahsoka had engaged the assassin.
.....
I found myself on Ahsoka´s right again, the speech having been continued.
Following my actions, I had been thanked by both Senator Organa and Padme, both of whom said they owed me one. Which sure as hell was great, having 2 of the greatest Senators owe me is great.
The speech had begun, but Lucky and Cameron, who was in the vents. And the HUD in my helmet told me both were alive and conscious.
"She's not in the vents." I told Ahsoka and Captain Typho.
Suddenly, Ahsoka turned around and began sprinting towards Padme´s room.
So it begins.
The second she turned around, so did I. Running about 5 meters behind her, as I unholstered both my pistols, holding them up as I prepared for Battle.
I saw Ahsoka rush into the room, and heard the activation of a Lightsaber.
"I remember you, Jedi brat." I heard as I rounded the corner and jumping into the room, slamming into the assassin as the door closed behind me. Aurra having shot it.
I slammed her into the wall, but sadly she managed to punch my arm, sending my pistols out of my hands.
Surprisingly, out of the corner of my eyes, I saw Ahsoka didn't move. But it also made sense. We just needed to keep her occupied.
She managed to lift her arms, kicking me off, but I rolled to my feet as I saw Ahsoka made to jump at the assassin.
"Don't Commander, protect the Senator. I´ll deal with her." I said as I put my hands into the military fighting stance.
Both our weapons were too far away for either to reach for them.
"Fucking clone, don't think a mass-produced product like you can compare to me!" She shouted as she rushed at me, jumping with a roundhouse kick.
"At least I don't look like you, miss whore." I said as I dodged the kick before slamming my hand into her back as she flew over me, sending her further into the wall.
I was immediately on her, slamming my right elbow into her face, staggering her, before kneeing her in the stomach, making her hunch over. Which allowed me to grab her head, putting her in a headlock.
And throwing her to the ground, where I laid onto of her, snaking my arms under her elbows and grabbing her neck, holding her arms fast upwards, where she couldn't touch me.
Holding her down as she struggled to escape.
"Senator! Stun her!" I shouted as she grabbed my DC17, turned it to stun, and shot the Assassin three times, until she stopped struggling.
Just in time for Captain Typho and the Commandos to rush in.
"Great work, Vaughn." Ahsoka said.
"Just doing my job." I told them as I grabbed my pistols and holstering them.
....
I walked alongside Ahsoka down the ramps from the ships, welcoming us was Master Yoda and Skywalker.
As we stopped up, Anakin turned to Padme.
"Are you alright?" He asked.
"Without Ahsoka´s foresight, I feel things would have gone differently." Padme said as Yoda stepped forward.
"Served you well, your foresight has. Young one." Yoda said and Ahsoka smiled.
"Thank you, Master." She said.
"And you, Vaughn. I heard you dealt with the assassin in close combat?" Anakin asked as he turned to me.
"Yes, sir. Though for a woman she packed quite a punch." I said as I rolled my shoulders, and Anakin chuckled.
"But we still don´t know who's behind this?"
And with that I left, this was now a Jedi issue. And I had no plans in getting involved.
