Chapter 166: Scouting the Planet, Information and Landing
For the past few days, Arcturus was flying around the Xaar Star System and mining the resources for the Red Queen to continue manufacturing various kinds of machines. Right now, she was constantly manufacturing solely Worker Droids and Construction Droids.
Right now, the number of the ABD-Spectre MK II. Battle Droids were lingering around a nice number of 1,200. Right now their goal was to build a proper Droid Factory on one of the moons that was orbiting around the Planet Aquamarine.
After a lengthy discussion with Red Queen, Jeniael, and Zehal, they have decided to place the Droid Factory on one of the moons that were orbiting the planet. From there, they would be manufacturing all of the Droids, and it was also closer to the various asteroid belts that were being used as the source of the resources.
Right now, several hundred Mining Droids were mining ores and ore veins that were transported to the Obscurur or to the construction area, where the Droid Manufacturing Factory was already rising from the ground.
The factory would be finished in one week or something, and then it would be ready to start manufacturing the Battle Droids. Due to the power of the natives of the Planet Aquamarine, Arcutus decided to first reach the number of ten thousand Battle Droids, before even landing down on the planet.
If they didn't have enough firepower and Battle Droids, then they wouldn't be able to properly defend their holds if they were besieged by the locals. What was making the situation even worse was that, aside from the Espers, there was still a tremendous population of Zombies on the planet, and also that of the Mutated Beasts.
According to the information they gathered about the planet, before the Evolutionary Virus struck the planet, it was on the brink of overpopulation. It had a housing population of more than seventy billion, which was a bit more than even for a Super Large Planet like planet Aquamarine.
Which was really a lot and most of them perished to the Super Evolutionary Virus that was released on the planet. The source was unknown, but Zehal was able to confirm that it was man-made and manufactured by a powerful and advanced civilization.
Most probably, it was made by a civilization that was even more advanced than the Eternal Empire of the Asurya. It was most possible that some very advanced civilization or Star Nation was testing something, and for their testing ground, they have chosen Planet Aquamarine.
Though there were a lot of things that were actually contradicting this theory as well, because there were no traces of a higher civilization or Star Nation, no observatories or even drones that would be gathering information and sending it back.
Not to mention, if this theory were indeed somewhat right, then there was no way that whoever came up with this plan would leave this to the Mind Flayers.
Illithids idsocefeved this place before Arcturus came here, and there was no way that some Star Nation or Civilization that was even more powerful than the Empire would leave some of their precious experimental grounds to the Mind Flayers.
Arcturus's most probable theory was that the civilization living on the planet Aquamarine managed to excavate some laboratory or something that was left on the planet by some advanced Star Nation or Civilization.
There they must have found something, perhaps they even found there the Super Evolutionary Virus itself. And the rest was then history...
"Do you have anything to the virus itself?"
In Zehal's laboratory or whatever the place was, which she had taken on the deck of Obscurus as one of the founding members of the Voidfuse Company and their future Private Military Company.
"Actually, yes, and it's pretty interesting..."
Zehal was researching the Super Evolutionary Virus that they obtained after Arctur's related and descended with the Obscurus low enough for Red Queen to release some Drones that caught some weak Espers and other kinds of specimens that were affected with the Super Evolutionary Virus.
"This virus is rather peculiar because its fundamental ability is to increase the evolution in any being. Basically, if any living lifeform comes into contact with the particles of the Virus, it would trigger Genetic Evolution in the lifeforms, where the DNA would automatically start revolving towards the higher form of being."
She presented Arcturus with some data on the research that she was conducting, but as could be expected, he didn't really understand anything from it, because there were all numbers, graphs, and other things.
Though there was something wrong with the things that she was saying, because he was wondering if the purpose of the Virus was to cause Evolution in the DNA of the living being, how could 99% of the planet's population have ended as Zombies?
"Then the Zombies are the result of incompatibility or of inability to bear the Virus? Or perhaps both?"
Even though he was no scientist, he could see that the people who were turned into Zombies weren't the primary purpose of the Super Evolutionary Virus. On the other hand, there was no mention of zombie animals or anything.
At least, it seemed that cases like that were very, very rare.
"Both. Even though the purpose of the Super Evolutionary Virus, as the natives called it, is to trigger Genetic Evolution of the DNA, there is a slight problem with that. Whoever made it aimed to research the Evolution of already strong and robust beings. It seemed that the creators didn't want to start from zero and adjusted the Genome of the Virus to that of powerful DNA, which basically is the base requirement. If person who has weak DNA is infected with the Virus, theytheir DNA would be undergoing Hyper Genetic Degradation, butt it seemed that due to the special properties oof the Virus, essentially triggering evolution, unfortueanly it won't kill host, but instead, Degrade host towards something that we call Zombie..."
Zehal explained everything to the point where he was even a bit surprised by how much she managed to find out about the Super Evolutionary Virus form just from a brief period of study.
"It seems that you were not wasting any time on this one..."
He muttered as he observed the data, though, Arcturus was more interested in the usage of the Super Evolutionary Virus on something more...
Like something like the Asuryani.
It seemed that the properties of the Super Evolutionary Virus were... staggering and the effects were tremendous, because they were able to induce forced evolution on a world where nobody had evolved and over a few short years, they created a good number of Especers on the Alpha-Grade.
Which was...
Really unprecedented achievement.
If they could use the Super Evolutionary Virus to achieve some sort of good results, then it would be the best outcome. Not to mention, something like Super Evolutionary Virus, perhaps in some sort of more refined and stable form, could serve as a good foundation for his future faction and forces.
It would be something that would give his people the edge over others.
"Well... not entirely, but at the same time, the Empire has many similar things like the Super Evolutionary Virus. I just needed to extract the data on the things that are currently being used by the Empire. Just the fact that the Super Evolutionary Virus is more aggressive and more advanced than anything that the Empire ever used. It would require a lot of effort to research the Super Evolutionary Virus completely, much less being said above, entirely reverse-engineering the entire thing from scratch."
Zehal was rather frustrated by the entire ordeal because the Super Evolutionary Virus was extremely complicated and not something that could be rushed. The best course of action would be to obtain some data and research, preferably accessing the original facility or place from which the Super Evolutionary Virus originated.
"Well, once we land down and start the conquest of the planet, we can march onto the area where the natives discover the Super Evolutionary Virus. With their level of technology, I seriously doubt that they were able to draw out some data from the terminals of some advanced civilization if there is anything in there."
Arcturus said as he was sure that if the natives really obtained the Super Evolutionary Virus from some factory that belonged to some more advanced civilization, then he was sure that there would be some terminals and computers.
And if there were terminals and computers present, then he was once again sure, Red Queen would be able to hack into the terminal and extract all information from the terminals about the Super Evolutionary Virus.
With that, they would be perhaps able to move forward with the research, though, for the time being, they needed to work with what they had on hand.
"I am going to check on Jeniael. She has proposed an interesting plan on how we can start landing operation and secure the perimeter, even without full-scale deployment of the Battle Droids."
The landing operation seemed to have hastened a bit because if Jeniael's proposal had been good enough, Arcturus wouldn't have really liked to go along with it. Even though he was rather reluctant to do it, Jeniael was spending most of her time scouring the locations and places where the Obscurus could land.
On the deck of Obscurus, there were a few smaller vessels that could transport a maximum of five people. They were personal transportation shops, but Arctuus wasn't really using them, because well...
There was no need to use them when he had teleportation in his arsenal. Though now it seemed that he would be using it, if Jeniael's plan seemed to be feasible and she found a location where they won't be swarmed by Zombies or Mutated Beasts, then why not?
He was starting to become bored with staying on the Obscurus and just observing what was happening on the planet.
Though he had to admit that it was also a bit entertaining... how the people down there were struggling for the resources and everything that could be used as a weapon.
It was rather surprising, but despite everything, the number of survivors was far lower than one would have expected, and a number of something akin to survivor camp could be almost counted on one hand.
There were traces of the survivors camps and even entire new forts and cities being formed around the start of the Apocalypse, as the locals called it, but the majority of them were already destroyed some time ago.
It seemed that, the root behind their destruction were either large amount of Zombies, the so-called Zombie Hordes that were attracted to bigger congregation of people or the hordes of the Mutated Beasts that were searching for food.
Then there was also a lot of infighting between the survivors for the resources, be it food or weapons or even the new resources that appeared after the Apocalypse, like the Psionic Cores, as the Espers too had the Psionic Cores like Psykers or Psionics.
So yeah...
The society, or even the post-apocalyptic society, was entirely in shambles, and nothing has remained from it.
From what Arcturus could see, there were only a few places that managed to withstand all of that chaos, mostly what had remained from the previous governments and militaries that had certain influence in the apocalypse.
But to them, they were not really a serious threat, because one shot from Obscurus would be enough to raze their camps and defenses to the ground.
***
Jeniael was currently in the command deck of the Obscurus as she was overseeing the holographic projection of one of the smaller continents of the Planet Aquamarine, more precisely, she was looking at the enormous mountain range.
The mountain range stretched across the majority of the continent, and according to the scans done by Obscurus, the population was very low in the entire mountain range. Most of the inhabitants of the mountain range were Mutated Beasts, which was both a positive thing and also a certain danger.
At the same time, there was little to no human presence within the mountain range due to very powerful Mutated Beasts that were living in the mountain range. Jeniael was able to find a place that was somewhat remote and secluded from the rest of the mountain range and spacious enough to accommodate Obscurus several times over.
"I see that you have found a suitable place... very well defensible in the case of possible attacks... but, it's far from the local population sources, which could be detrimental in the future."
Arcturus said as he went over the data that Jeniael presented him, and in fact, the location that she found was superb. The valley that she had landmarked was secluded; there was basically an extremely low to zero chance that natives would discover it and come wreak havoc in there.
The sole downside was the fact that it was rather far from the closest source of the local population who would be needed for the various experiments, as he was sure that Zehal would want many of the locals for her own purposes.
Not to mention, they would need to start their conquest somewhere and conquer some source of population as their first move, which would be done much easier if they were closer to it.
"I know, but this place could be defended much better compared to all other previous locations that were under consideration, and in the case of a full-scale invasion, we can easily defend it, as it has only two entrances / exits."
Jenaiel then showed Arcturus several holographic projections, which included the calculated distances to the closest places that could be called a "village" or a "town" if one closed one or two eyes.
"Even though we would have some problems with certain aspects of the conquest, the advantages of this place far outweigh the disadvantages. The most notable thing to mention should be most probably the fact that the entire mountain range is extremely rich in various ores. And... there are even some things like Thorium, Adamantium or Starmetal from the fallen asteroids."
Arcturus contemplated on everything that Jeniae was saying, but after hearing about the deposits of ores, he related to her suggestion and decided that they would create their headquarters here.
"Very well then... prepare the shuttle. We would be going to the valley in one hour, the scout the area."
