Chapter 153: Scolding
Space around him glitched in existence—a crackling, almost electric feel slicing the air—as reality warped with a shiver that ran beneath Seraphine's skin. Instinctively, she tensed, fingers tightening around her sword's hilt, every sense straining as the world seemed to hold its breath.
A black, simple-looking pouch materialized, emitting a faint, musty scent, as the air around it cooled abruptly. Seraphine's heartbeat slowed as she stared deadpan at her Leon.
"Hmph! You should have at least given me a warning." Her eyes flickered away, darting to the floor and then to the far wall as she complained, a faint flush coloring her cheeks as embarrassment crept into her voice.
Leon found her reaction irresistibly cute; the corners of his mouth lifted in a small, genuine smile as he watched her struggle to maintain her composure.
She had never seen it happen in front of her before. Leon did tell her once about a strange phenomenon by which the items bought from the cosmic system appeared.
Now she fully understood him—it was nothing like teleportation.
It felt as if someone or something had changed reality itself and forced an object to appear in front of them.
The cosmic system really was very mysterious.
She longed for the day when she would be able to get her own, but her first priority was always becoming immortal so she could live forever with her Leon.
A couple of seconds spent staring at the wall had calmed her embarrassment, and now she looked composed enough that no one could tell she had been blushing just moments earlier.
She eyed the pouch curiously, then glanced up at Leon. "What exactly is this supposed to be?"
Leon didn't answer her and took out a golden treasure chest.
He remembered the description of the item, which said you just had to touch the item with the pouch and, with just your thoughts alone, it could store the item inside.
And he did just that—moving his pouch closer to the golden chest. Seraphine was curiously watching what he was doing.
In the next second, with just his thought, the treasure chest got sucked inside the pouch.
The pouch grew subtly heavier in his palm—cool and oddly smooth to the touch—while a faint vibration traveled up his fingers, making him suspect some hidden element besides spatial magic powered this artifact.
The added weight was barely a few grams—a subtle shift, but enough to make his fingers tingle with curiosity as he marveled at the mysterious element of the artifact.
But he didn't have time for that right now. When he had free time, he would do proper research on the pouch.
Seraphine's eyes widened in amazement. It was just like how Leon stored things out of thin air, but in this case, they had to use a pouch—even then, it wasn't any less impressive.
Yet rather than being happy, she felt annoyed. She could already guess he had bought this for her.
"Why did you buy this without my permission?" She huffed, crossing her arms. "You should have asked me beforehand! Just because you've earned some causalities doesn't mean you can just waste them like this, Leon—especially in a time like this!"
Leon just had a blank look on his face. He was expecting some hugs and praises for the gift—instead, he was getting scolded by her.
"Seraphine, you might not know this, but this treasure I gave you barely cost me anything."
Especially when just yesterday, I absorbed a treasure worth at least ten times the pouch value—or even more so.
But he didn't tell her that, as she was already acting like this when he had bought such a cheap thing. This was the cheapest one for storing—it had only 100 cubic meters of space.
Yet for her needs, this was more than enough for now. He was in dire need of casualties and made sure to spend them well, but she still thought he was wasting them.
"This item only costs 27,000 casualties. I have more than 600,000 casualties left, so you don't have to worry about anything."
He was not a fool. He also knew that, for finding the solution to his Holy Energy problem, he would definitely need to use the cosmic shop again.
Yet he wasn't worried. If push came to shove, he would sell other treasures—he would definitely cross the 1 million mark easily. He didn't believe that it would be enough to find the solution.
Seraphine did feel convinced by his words. If 27,000 could buy you something so amazing, then she couldn't imagine what he could buy with 600,000 casualties. But she was still not entirely convinced, as she couldn't let him waste precious causalities without asking her—especially when he was gifting it to her. She felt burdened by it.
She loved gifts—the ring he had given her, she would treasure it for the rest of her life.
But unnecessary spending, especially when he needed it the most—that she couldn't tolerate.
"Hmph! Alright, you've already bought the item. I can't do anything now. But before buying any items for me, make sure to tell me beforehand."
She knew her Leon was calculative. This purchase was definitely worth it, but the timing was wrong.
"Alright, alright—I promise I'll let you know next time before I buy you anything."
Leon felt like punishing her hard before leaving, but he stopped himself as he had no time to waste right now, and the more he stayed outside, the less time he would have inside.
He handed the simple-looking black pouch to her and gave her instructions.
"Think about taking out the treasure chest from the pouch now. It's completely identical to how you enter dimensional space."
Seraphine did as she was told, and on her first try, the golden chest came out of the pouch.
"This pouch has 100 cubic meters of space, just to let you know."
Now his hand went to the golden chest. The metal was cold, almost biting against his skin. As the lid creaked open, a faint metallic tang mixed with the scent of polished gold filled the air.
"Here are a couple of hundred platinum bars for you. I want you to use your connections to gather a lot of supplies, just like the knights. Once I destroy this kingdom, there will be a lot of people who will join our world."
Despite his words entering her mind, her eyes were glued to the contents inside the chest.
Shock flashed across her face—the chest did not hold platinum bars, but something entirely unexpected.
