Spiritrun Arena

Chapter 66: Chapter 66: The Whispering Bloom

The World Spirit Arena's holographic scoreboard still glowed with their perfect score when Lin Ye and Xiao Tao stepped out of the stadium. The autumn air carried the faint scent of roasted chestnuts from nearby stalls, but neither of them noticed—their focus was fixed on the Spirit Pattern Tree, which stood at the edge of the plaza, its leaves shimmering with an unusual silver light.

"That's not normal," Xiao Tao said, her brow furrowed. The tree's usual golden glow had been replaced by a silvery haze, like moonlight trapped in its branches.

Lin Ye's Reverse Scale Core flared slightly, a low hum resonating in his chest. "Yuehuan's seed," he murmured. "The one we planted after the finals. It's… reacting."

They approached the tree, their footsteps crunching on fallen osmanthus petals. As they neared, the silver light intensified, and a soft, melodic voice echoed from the branches—not Yuehuan's, but something older, wiser.

"Greetings, seekers of light," the voice said. "You have proven yourselves worthy of the Starlight Seed's gift. Now, it calls you to the Root of Eternity."

Xiao Tao exchanged a glance with Lin Ye. "The Root of Eternity?"

"A place beyond the Spirit Pattern Tree," the voice continued. "Where the first spirit patterns were forged. Where Yuehuan's light was born. But beware—the path is guarded by the Echoes of Doubt. They will test your resolve to protect what you hold dear."

Before they could respond, the tree's branches shifted, and a portal swirled into existence—a swirling vortex of silver and gold, like a galaxy compressed into a doorway.

"Go," the voice urged. "The Root awaits."

The Path of Echoes

The portal spat them into a cavern lit by bioluminescent crystals. The walls were carved with ancient spirit patterns, their lines glowing faintly. At the center of the cavern stood a pedestal, upon which rested a single, perfect star—Yuehuan's Starlight Seed, now fully bloomed into a flower with petals like molten silver.

But as they drew closer, the air grew cold. Shadows flickered at the edges of their vision, and whispers began to creep into their minds:

"You're not strong enough."

"What if you fail?"

"Yuehuan's light is a lie—she abandoned you."

Xiao Tao's shadow crow bells began to jingle erratically, their silver light dimming. Lin Ye's Reverse Scale Core pulsed, trying to counteract the whispers, but they seeped into his thoughts like poison.

"Stop," Xiao Tao said, her voice firm. She closed her eyes, focusing on the memory of Yuehuan's smile—the way she'd laughed at Mingyuan's jokes, the way she'd held Lin Ye's hand when he'd cried after their first battle. "These are lies. Yuehuan's light isn't a lie. We're not lies."

The whispers faltered. Lin Ye opened his eyes, his Reverse Scale Core now glowing brighter, its gold light pushing back the shadows. "You're right. We've fought too hard to let doubt win."

The cavern shuddered, and the shadows condensed into tangible forms—shadowy figures of their past selves: a younger Lin Ye, trembling after losing a battle; a scared Xiao Tao, crying in a corner after her first fight.

"You failed then," the shadow-Lin Ye sneered. "You'll fail now."

"No," Xiao Tao said, stepping forward. Her shadow crow bells blared, their silver light cutting through the darkness. "We failed once, but we learned. We grew. And we're not alone anymore."

She reached out, her hand brushing the shadow-Lin Ye's face. The figure dissipated, its whisper fading: "Prove it."

The Starlight's Truth

The shadows retreated, and the cavern's crystals flared to life. The Starlight Seed's flower lifted from the pedestal, its petals unfolding to reveal a tiny, glowing core—Yuehuan's spirit, now fully manifest, floating in the air.

"Welcome, my loves," she said, her voice warm and familiar. "I've been waiting for this moment."

Xiao Tao's tears fell. "You're… you're really here."

Yuehuan smiled, her form solid now, as if she'd never been gone. "I've always been here—in your hearts, in your courage. But this…" She gestured to the crystal-lined walls, "is where it all began. Where the first spirit patterns were created to protect the world from darkness."

Lin Ye stepped closer. "Why show us this now?"

"Because the darkness is returning," Yuehuan said, her tone grave. "The pollution we fought in Dragon Lock Abyss was just the beginning. There's a force older than time, feeding on doubt and fear. It wants to erase all light—including yours."

Xiao Tao's grip tightened on her shadow crow bells. "How do we stop it?"

Yuehuan reached out, placing a hand on each of theirs. Her touch was warm, solid, alive. "You already have. The bond you share—the way you fight for each other—is the strongest light there is. But you need to trust it. Trust yourselves."

She pressed a small object into Lin Ye's palm—a second Starlight Seed, smaller than the first, its petals glowing with the same silver light. "Plant this in the Spirit Pattern Tree. It will strengthen the bond between your spirits, making you unstoppable. But remember: the greatest power comes not from fighting alone, but from fighting together."

The Bond of Eternity

Back in the plaza, the Spirit Pattern Tree stood taller than ever, its leaves now a brilliant mix of gold and silver. Lin Ye and Xiao Tao stood beneath it, the second Starlight Seed clutched in Lin Ye's hand.

"Ready?" Xiao Tao asked, her voice steady.

Lin Ye nodded. "Always."

He pressed the seed into the tree's base. The ground trembled, and a beam of silver light shot upward, merging with the tree's golden glow. The two seeds—Yuehuan's original and the new one—bloomed into a single, radiant flower, its petals swirling with both gold and silver, like a star and a moon dancing together.

The crowd erupted in cheers. Grandma Chizuru clapped, her eyes glistening. "That's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen!"

Sakura's Shadow Crows perched on the tree, weaving the flower's petals into their wings. Zhao Yan's modified Spirit Cannon fired a celebratory blast of silver light.

But the true magic was in the bond between Lin Ye and Xiao Tao. Their hands laced together, their spirits humming with a shared energy—stronger, brighter, unbreakable.

"You feel it?" Lin Ye asked, his voice soft.

Xiao Tao smiled. "The light. It's… us."

Yuehuan's voice echoed from the tree, warm and proud: "Yes. And this is just the beginning."

Epilogue: The Eternal Now

That night, under the Spirit Pattern Tree, Lin Ye and Xiao Tao sat together, their backs against the trunk. The double-bloomed flower hung above them, its light casting soft shadows on their faces.

"Do you think there's more to come?" Xiao Tao asked, tracing the flower's petals with her finger.

Lin Ye nodded. "Probably. But whatever it is… we'll face it together."

He leaned his head on hers, and she rested hers on his shoulder. The Reverse Scale Core and Shadow Crow Bells hummed in unison, a lullaby of light and trust.

Somewhere, in a place beyond time, Yuehuan smiled. Now, she thought, is the sweetest part of all.

(Wind carried the scent of osmanthus. In the distance, the Spirit Pattern Arena's broadcast played: "Tonight's featured story? A love that outshines even the stars.")
