Chapter 160: Chapter 160: Na’er!
Since both Gu Yue and Xu Xiaoyan wanted to take a break, Jing Shaoyu decided to wander Shrek City alone for the day.
He didn't take a bus this time but instead picked a random street and started walking. At every intersection, he turned left, and at every curve, he followed the path, embracing a carefree, aimless exploration of wherever fate would lead him.
After several twists and turns, Jing Shaoyu spotted a large building about 100 meters ahead that resembled a museum. His curiosity piqued, he quickened his pace and approached the entrance, where he read its name.
Shrek Museum.
"A museum, huh?" He was a bit surprised. His curiosity grew stronger, and without hesitation, he entered.
After paying 120 Federation coins for a ticket, Jing Shaoyu stepped inside. The grandiose exterior of the building was matched by its lavish and elegant interior, exuding a unique charm.
The museum had three floors. The first floor displayed the history of Shrek City's development, featuring memorabilia, documents, paintings, and other items of historical significance. Uninterested in these exhibits, Jing Shaoyu bypassed the sparse crowd and headed straight to the second floor.
The second floor focused on the history of Shrek Academy, showcasing items and records from its founding to the present day. With a mix of curiosity and amusement, Jing Shaoyu decided to take his time browsing.
He soon came across a peculiar display: a simple grill. Its description left him bemused.
"Huo Yuhao's Grill: This grill was used by the Spirit Ice Douluo, Huo Yuhao, during his time at Shrek Academy to support himself financially. It symbolizes his spirit of perseverance and marks the beginning of his enduring friendships with the Blue Silver Douluo Tang Ya, Dragon God Douluo Bei Bei, Black Tortoise Douluo Xu Sanshi, and Soft Bone Douluo Jiang Nannan."
"Heh…" Jing Shaoyu couldn't help but chuckle. "Interesting."
Further along, he found a battered iron jacket. As soon as he saw it, he guessed its story.
The plaque confirmed his suspicion: "Huo Yuhao's Iron Jacket: This was worn by the Spirit Ice Douluo, Huo Yuhao, during his first year at Shrek Academy. It embodies his spirit of overcoming weakness through hard work and marks the emergence of the academy's weakest class president in history."
"Well, that's an honest assessment," Jing Shaoyu muttered, his expression a mix of amusement and thoughtfulness. "Little Huo might have his flaws, but he's truly an inspiring figure. Still, it's a shame—a prodigious talent like him ended up as a son-in-law for the Tang family. What a pity."
Jing Shaoyu moved on, marveling at the items on display. Each piece stirred memories, flooding his mind with emotions.
Unbeknownst to him, on the museum's third floor—a level not open to the public—a young girl stood on the walkway, gazing down at him.
The third floor overlooked the second in an open design. From her vantage point, the girl could clearly see Jing Shaoyu below. Her delicate face was streaked with tears as emotions swirled within her: joy, excitement, sadness, worry, and fear. They painted a complex, heart-wrenching picture that would move anyone who saw her.
"Brother…" she whispered softly.
As if sensing something, Jing Shaoyu glanced behind him, but he saw no one. Scratching his head in confusion, he shrugged off the strange feeling and resumed his exploration.
Had he looked up, he would have seen the very person he longed to find.
But fate seemed to have decided their reunion wasn't meant to happen just yet.
The girl on the third floor was none other than Na'er.
Na'er contemplated jumping down to embrace her long-lost brother, but a woman stopped her, gently grabbing her arm.
The woman, whose elegant and clean demeanor radiated a quiet beauty, noticed Na'er's tears and felt a pang of sympathy. She tenderly wiped them away and asked softly, "What's wrong, Na'er? Why are you suddenly crying?"
"Godmother, I saw my brother!" Na'er exclaimed, looking up with her large, tear-filled eyes.
"Really? That's wonderful news," the woman said with a gentle smile after a brief moment of surprise. "Is it that handsome boy down there? He does look a lot like the brother you've always talked about."
"Yes, yes!" Na'er nodded enthusiastically. "It's him! He's grown so tall, but his face hasn't changed. I recognized him instantly. Godmother, can I go see him?"
"Hmm…" The woman hesitated, her sharp gaze falling on Jing Shaoyu. Her expression turned thoughtful and scrutinizing. After a moment, she said, "If he's here, he's probably planning to take our academy's entrance exam. Why don't you wait until he's accepted? Then you can meet him at the academy. What do you think?"
"Alright…" Na'er agreed reluctantly, her excitement tinged with disappointment. "How long until the exams?"
"Not long—just three days," the woman replied with a reassuring smile. "Once the new students are admitted, you can come with me to the outer courtyard. You'll meet him then."
"How long after the exams?" Na'er pressed, her impatience evident.
"Not too long, Na'er. Just seven days at most," the woman replied with a soft laugh. Her eyes flickered with thought as she studied Jing Shaoyu. "It seems your brother holds a special place in your heart. Let's hope he's a good person. Otherwise, I might have to play the villain."
She smiled faintly, her affection for Na'er evident. She and her husband, Yun Ming, treated Na'er as their own daughter and wouldn't let anyone harm her.
"Let's head back, Na'er," the woman said, taking her hand and gently leading her away. Na'er kept glancing back, reluctant to leave, but eventually followed.
Jing Shaoyu remained unaware of this encounter. At that moment, he was examining the last exhibit: a wooden plaque inscribed with the words Shrek Academy.
The accompanying plaque read: "The Original Wooden Academy Nameplate: This plaque was crafted and inscribed by Cat Eagle Douluo Flender, the founder and first principal of Shrek Academy. It bears witness to the academy's humble beginnings and the youthful days of the first-generation Shrek Seven Devils. It is the source of all Shrek traditions."
As Jing Shaoyu stepped closer, he thought, If this is the original, it's priceless. Flender truly cemented his legacy as the most miserly figure in Douluo history.
Chuckling softly, Jing Shaoyu couldn't help but step back.
"Ah!"
A soft voice cried out as he accidentally bumped into someone. He quickly turned around, apologizing, "Sorry about that. Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," the woman replied.
Jing Shaoyu realized he had bumped into a strikingly beautiful woman with long, dark green hair flowing gracefully behind her. Her gentle and elegant demeanor exuded a unique charm, making him glance at her twice. A thought crossed his mind—could this be Holy Spirit Douluo Yali?
"Why are you staring at me like that? Is there something wrong?" she asked, noticing his gaze.
"No, it's just… you seem very kind and approachable," Jing Shaoyu replied with a polite smile, concealing his true thoughts.
"Ha, what a sweet talker," she said with a soft laugh. "Are you here for Shrek Academy's entrance exam?"
"Yes," Jing Shaoyu replied, a thought flashing through his mind. Could she be here to observe the applicants? Or did Na'er send her?
"Well, good luck with your exam," the woman said, smiling.
"Thank you. I'll do my best," Jing Shaoyu replied, his tone calm and confident.
