Chapter 175: Chapter 177: The Gap of the First Soul Ring, Part 3
Chapter 177: The Gap of the First Soul Ring, Part 3
This particular soul beast was unique due to its fruit, which contained a hollow core that could rapidly absorb the ambient spiritual energy around it. At a specific time, the fruit would release this energy, attracting other soul beasts who would gather to protect the Airborne Tree, much like paying a "protection fee." It seemed every soul beast that survived in the wild had its own tricks to ensure safety.
Watching Oscar show off after absorbing his new soul ring, Ye Wen smiled and encouraged him. "Oscar, why don't you try out your new soul skill? Let's see what it does."
Excitedly, Oscar nodded, chanting as he activated the skill.
"Airborne echoes, falling from the sky. From a sausage born to power, a boost to training Air Sausage!"
With a flash of light, a small white sausage appeared in Oscar's hand, which he proudly offered to Ye Wen as if it were a precious treasure. Fortunately, the incantation wasn't as crude as the original. Maybe Ye Wen's presence altered fate just enough to erase that element. After all, he had sensed a subtle shift in the rules of the world.
Ye Wen took a bite; it was crisp with a mild sweetness, perhaps enhanced by the essence of the Airborne Tree's fruit. "Not bad, Oscar," he praised. "Now, share some with everyone else they're pretty tasty, and the energy boost should be useful for you all."
Oscar then produced four more Air Sausages and handed them out to his friends, a proud grin lighting up his face as he watched them sample his creation.
"It's delicious!" said one.
"It's so crunchy!"
"Oscar, you're amazing! You'll have to make breakfast for us every day now," Ma Hongjun exclaimed.
While Ye Wen's children, accustomed to delicacies, found Oscar's sausages tasty but nothing extravagant, Ma Hongjun was thrilled. He declared Oscar his new breakfast provider, much to everyone's amusement.
These Air Sausages granted about a 20% boost in training efficiency for low level soul masters like themselves equivalent to being in a well aligned training environment. The effect lessened as the level difference with Oscar increased, so for Ye Wen, the benefit was barely perceptible. But even a minor effect on Ye Wen indicated the quality of Oscar's martial soul was remarkably high.
Seeing how the Air Sausages could even affect a powerful soul master, Ye Wen couldn't help but consider Oscar's potential. In terms of raw talent, Oscar and Ma Hongjun ranked among the top three within the original Shrek Seven Devils. Given proper guidance, their talents could be truly formidable.
With this goal accomplished, Ye Wen's attention shifted as he sensed two familiar presences arriving in the forest: Yu Xiaogang and Tang San.
Using his family's connections, Yu Xiaogang had obtained a permanent third level soul permit from the Spirit Hall to access the forest with Tang San. Without the need to return the permit, he used it freely, but he refrained from boasting about his Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan origins as he had in the original timeline. Entangled in a situation he couldn't avoid, he had no choice but to proceed.
Tang San noticed Yu Xiaogang's unusual behavior but assumed he was simply focused on finding a suitable soul ring for him. Meanwhile, Yu Xiaogang tried to mask his unease by starting Tang San's first lesson on soul master theory, explaining the basics of ring evaluation and hunting.
As Yu Xiaogang lectured, a group of Shadow Wolves approached. He muttered in frustration, "Damn beasts. I'm already in a foul mood, and you dare come and worsen it? I'll use you to vent."
Summoning Luo San Pao, he activated his martial soul with a controlled, steady voice. The sequence of yellow, yellow, purple, purple, and black rings illuminated, filling Tang San with awe. Though he had witnessed a couple of rings during his awakening, they paled in comparison to the force Yu Xiaogang now displayed. Tang San gazed admiringly at his teacher, who, though not a Title Douluo, was evidently powerful.
Luo San Pao, now imbued with the Light attribute, had transformed significantly. Sporting a more dragon like shape, though still rotund, it looked oddly adorable in its own way. This transformation also affected its soul skills, shedding its old reputation as the "Fart Cannon."
"First soul skill: Thunderous Roar!" Yu Xiaogang commanded.
With a thunderous dragon like howl, bolts of golden lightning surged forth, incapacitating the Shadow Wolves. Yu Xiaogang's frustration abated slightly as he used the unconscious wolves to teach Tang San about various soul master concepts.
Confident in his strength, Yu Xiaogang wandered the forest with Tang San, nonchalantly seeking a soul ring. Occasionally, he let Tang San practice on weaker soul beasts, ensuring he didn't harm anything too valuable risking Tang San absorbing an unsuitable ring could cost him dearly.
Luo San Pao, which couldn't attach itself to Yu Xiaogang due to the peculiar nature of his martial soul, acted as a guide dog of sorts. Luo San Pao's presence deterred low level soul beasts from approaching. Suddenly, it let out a low growl, indicating something unusual ahead, which Yu Xiaogang quickly dismissed as two disguised Mandala Snake vines.
"Nothing to worry about, Tang San. Those are just disguised Mandala Snakes, a defensive plant species," Yu Xiaogang explained, taking the chance to demonstrate his knowledge.
