Chapter 159: Chapter 161: The Scheming Rakshasa God
Chapter 161: The Scheming Rakshasa God
Ye Wen had no idea about what was happening with Bibi Dong, as he was once again engrossed in his own research. Meanwhile, Bibi Dong, seemingly steered by fate, had chosen to inherit the godly title of Rakshasa a powerful Level One deity comparable to the Sea God in stature.
The Rakshasa God, born in the same era as the Asura God King, was master of malevolence, while Asura ruled over slaughter. The two gods had a longstanding enmity. In addition to malevolence, the Rakshasa God wielded the power of wrath and death, ranking among the top ten in the Divine Realm's combat prowess. In the original story, Bibi Dong's faltering performance was attributed to her descent into madness and even schizophrenia. A deity of malevolence who cannot manage their own inner darkness is seen as a failure, and if the Rakshasa God hadn't been eager to abandon the title and flee, Bibi Dong would never have been chosen as the successor.
But this time, things were different. With her unwavering resolve and clear purpose, Bibi Dong was in much better mental health and was far from the unstable persona in the original. Both her spirits Death and Devour Spider Emperors leaned towards darkness, making her a perfect candidate for the Rakshasa God.
"Much obliged to the Sea God for delivering my heir," chuckled the Rakshasa God as she lounged provocatively in her Divine Realm temple, nibbling on juicy fruit with a wicked grin.
The trial for the Rakshasa inheritance usually took place in the Slaughter City, but it could also be initiated directly if the right person was found. Several of the Shrek Seven Devils, after all, had inherited their god titles in similar circumstances. Apparently, the Rakshasa God's antics in Slaughter City, where she attempted to meddle with Tang Chen, Asura's intended heir, had not gone unnoticed. Ever since, Asura's gaze had grown increasingly suspicious, unnerving the Rakshasa God. After all, she was a mere Level One god, while Asura was a god king a disparity that would frighten anyone.
Recent events in the Divine Realm had only added to her anxiety. The mysterious death of the Angel God had left the Divine Realm tense, with rumors pointing to Asura, though without solid evidence. Still, the Rakshasa God was convinced it was Asura's doing. The Angel God's dominion over judgment had overlapped with his, making her an obstacle. Now that she was gone, the Rakshasa feared she'd be next on Asura's list, so she was in a desperate rush to pass on her title and vanish before becoming his next target.
Recently, the Sea God had been publicly bragging about transferring his title, claiming he would be free to roam the cosmos after his successor assumed the mantle in a hundred years. Jealous, many lower ranked gods listened eagerly. This was when the Rakshasa God set her sights on Tianxing Academy, sensing it was brimming with untapped potential and highly talented individuals. She identified one promising candidate whose qualities aligned almost perfectly with her title: Bibi Dong.
Her dual spirits, Death Spider Emperor and Devour Spider Emperor, embodied darkness and fear ideal attributes for a Rakshasa. So, she covertly sent the god trial to Bibi Dong. However, upon understanding the dark essence of the Rakshasa God, Bibi Dong hesitated; few women aspired toward a domain of malevolence. Yet, as she watched Ye Wen living his life in comfort and happiness while she remained isolated and bitter, Bibi Dong's suppressed desires grew stronger. In time, her resentment overcame her reluctance, and she accepted the Rakshasa trial.
The Rakshasa God sneered, "Thank you, Sea God, for being such a big mouthed fool," satisfied that her new heir was falling into line with her scheme.
At the same time, Ye Wen returned Yang Wushuang safely, much to the joy and relief of his brother Yang Wudi, who publicly pledged the Po Clan's allegiance to Ye Wen. Still, Ye Wen did not immediately offer the priceless core of the Delicate Fragrant Immortal Herb to Yang Wudi, preferring to integrate the clan into the Tianxing Academy's medical institute first by putting them in charge of high grade medicinal production.
As for why the Po Clan wasn't given the responsibility of security despite their formidable strength, that job was already outsourced to the Body Sect, and competing for this role would mean provoking a battle.
The Po Clan found they quite enjoyed the alchemical work; it was a welcome change from their reputation as mere brutes.
Time passed peacefully on the continent, a period of calm and growth with no wars or disasters an era of tranquility. Three years had flown by when Ye Wen received some inconsequential news: Dai Mubai had awakened his spirit.
In the original tale, Dai Mubai was portrayed as a reliable elder brother, yet his past revealed him to be reckless. Before Zhu Zhuqing entered his life, he was indulging in escapist behaviors, achieving only a meager rank 37 at the age of 15 a critical period for soul master training.
While Zhu Zhuqing and Dai Mubai's innate soul powers were never specified in the original, they should have been no less than seven or eight. Anything less would be an insult to royal lineage. As a prince, Dai Mubai would have had access to advanced meditation techniques and an environment teeming with resources, his training perhaps hindered but not entirely blocked by the Crown Prince's influence.
By all rights, Dai Mubai should have reached at least rank 40. Instead, he wasted years in a life of debauchery, abandoning responsibility until Zhu Zhuqing reappeared and reminded him of the grim future awaiting him if he continued to flee from his fate. This turn spurred his sudden "dedication" to win Zhu Zhuqing's affection. If Zhu Zhuqing had been less bound by her heritage, she might never have lost herself to such an unsuitable partner.
While Ye Wen had no interest in guiding Dai Mubai, he did feel some sympathy for Zhu Zhuqing and resolved to help her if the opportunity arose.
Stretching his back, Ye Wen felt his muscles ache. Recently, he'd been engrossed in crafting the perfect four word battle armor sets for Ah Yin and Bo Saixi, a task that had taken a physical toll.
"Exclusive Four Word Battle Armor: Blue Silver Sword Emperor " "Exclusive Four Word Battle Armor: Glory of the Sea God "
Looking at the graceful lines and the shades of blue that dominated both armors, Ye Wen couldn't help but smile with satisfaction.
