Chapter 6: You Better Move
The pirates bring Sonic to their hideout. They're staying at a beautiful hotel near the sea with palm trees decorating the place. The young pirates quickly look through his stuff while the Blue Devil watches from behind.
"I don't got all day, man," he says, arms crossed, tapping his foot on the ground.
"I… I… I'm doing my best! I swear it was just here! I swear!" He trashes the place looking for the object.
"I'm sorry about earlier," the leader says with an embarrassed smile. Sonic doesn't even mind his presence.
"I'm starting to think you're wasting my time," the hedgehog says, walking towards the young one.
"I got it… I got it!" The pirate lifts the object in the air, quickly turning his body to face Sonic.
"What is this?"
The object looks like an hourglass. But instead of sand, inside the wooden cage is a glass sphere with a compass pointing in a direction.
"It's a Sabaody Eternal Pose. It's pointing at the island as we speak. Just follow that direction and you'll get there. But it might be too late."
"What do you mean?" Sonic asks, his heart racing.
"The auction starts in 3 hours and it's a two-week travel by boat. I'm sorry to say this, but your friend will be gone by the time—"
Sonic snatches the Eternal Pose.
"This thing better work or I will come back. I hope for you that you can run faster than me."
His eyes spark and he disappears in a powerful sonic boom. The shockwave cracks the wall and sends the pirates flying. The wind nearly makes the palm trees fall over.
Cricket walks to his house after a swimming session and is surprised by the sonic boom. He looks in the distance and sees the water splitting as a blue trail fades in the distance. He smiles.
"Good luck, Sonic."
Amy wakes up in a dark massive cage full of people. They are sitting on a box with a number behind them. She is lying on box 8. Shackles and chains restraining her. Beside her, men and women of all shapes and forms. One looks like a big wolf-man, another is an actual giant and there is also a young mermaid. She's shaking, looking everywhere, eyes full of tears.
"Don't worry, I will get you out of here," Amy says, trying to comfort her.
The mermaid looks at her with no hope in her eyes.
"Trust me, we won't stay here for long. I have a friend who will come to save us."
"Stop lying to her," the wolf-man says nonchalantly. "It's over for us. Nobody is coming to save us. Unless your friend has a straw hat."
"What's your problem scaring her like that? Don't you have any type of empathy, you jerk?" Amy says, upset.
"I'm the jerk?" The wolf-man laughs. "I am simply realistic. You are the jerk for lying to her. She already knew that all hope was lost once she crossed those doors. You're only creating delusion in her head with that fake story. No one is looking for us and no one is coming to save us. Let's just hope that the people buying us won't be too bad."
Amy clenches her teeth while staring at the wolf-man.
"Look man. I don't know who you are or where you come from, but you have serious issues. Thinking like that will only lead you to be a depressing loser. We are still living and free. Well, technically not sold into slavery yet. So there is still a chance to get out of here. You are wasting that chance by being a pessimistic jerk.
Lady, we will get out of here. You have my word. Don't listen to that man."
The wolf laughs again.
"I'm happy. I lived a good life. I accept my fate. You, on the other hand, will be the one unhappy when your delusion fails. Don't bring that young lady down with you."
"Shut up!" Amy snaps.
"All that anger and delusion but not one solution to escape."
"You haven't brought one either!"
"Because I am not trying to," the wolf says with a smile.
Amy tries to break the shackles.
"Good. Let's try something the big man here already tried but failed," he says, pointing at the giant.
"I said shut up!" Amy violently smashes her shackles on the box. Guards come running.
"Hey, stop that!"
"Get us out of here, you ugly-looking clowns!"
Her neck collar starts to beep.
"Hear that? Try to do something stupid and you will lose your head."
Amy stops and stares angrily at the men.
"Sonic is gonna come and whoop all your asses!"
"Yeah right, whoever that Sonic is." The guards walk away.
"You will regret this!" she yells at them.
"You are persistent," the wolf-man says. "Your new masters are surely gonna like you."
Amy ignores him.
"We will stay here for some time so might as well introduce each other. I'm Van. And you?"
Amy crosses her arms and looks away.
"Come on, it's not like we have anything better to do."
She taps her finger on her arm and frowns.
"I'm Amy," she says, still looking away.
"Nice to meet you, Amy," Van says with a smile.
All of Amy's anger vanishes when she sees the mermaid crying in silence.
"What type of monster could kidnap such a cutie?" she says with pity.
"Unfortunately, fishmen like her sell at a valuable price on the market. So it's pretty common for young girls like her to be caught by bandits. Sad world we live in," Van says.
Amy tries to extend a hand toward her but she avoids it.
"I won't hurt you. You're beautiful. What's your name?" Amy says in a soft voice.
The mermaid wipes her tears and catches her breath.
"I… I… I am Lucia," the mermaid says, trembling.
"What a cute name, Lucia. I'm Amy," she says with a smile.
"I promise you we are going to get out of here safe. I promise."
She makes eye contact with her. But Lucia still doesn't believe she is getting saved. All of her hope was gone long ago. Amy can see that. A tear tries to fall but she wipes it quickly.
"Where are you, Sonic…" she thinks to herself.
At sea, a blue meteor crosses island lengths in minutes. The unfortunate boats in his path are either hit by an immense wave or have their ears popped from a brutal shockwave. The cold water or the powerful wind hitting his body doesn't matter right now. On his mind, only the safety of his friend matters.
"I hope this stupid thing really works," he says, double-checking if he is going in the right direction every minute.
The worst possible outcome also creeps into his mind. He remembers the slave that was with Saint Thierry.
"What if she's treated like that man…"
"Don't worry Amy, I'm coming."
In the distance, he sees an entire fleet of ships and recognizes their flags.
A marine with a telescope watches the sea and notices a blue trail approaching quickly. He adjusts it to see clearly what is coming.
"Hey, look at that," the marine says to his tall friend.
He takes the telescope and looks.
"Is that him? The Blue Devil?"
The tall marine opens his eyes wide.
"We have to warn the others," he says, running to the fleet captain.
A boulder falls beside Sonic.
"I'm really not in the mood for this."
Five others fall around him.
"Well, you started this."
His body bursts in blue aura as he gets into a ball. He dodges a bunch of cannonballs and accelerates towards the ships. The marines on the first boat barely have time to panic before Sonic already penetrates their ship, leaving a giant hole in the hull.
He looks like an indestructible missile going through ship after ship. The sea erupts in flames. Screams and war cries fill the air.
The blue trail of the Devil continues his path of destruction.
The captain doesn't even know how to react. He can't even see what he's fighting.
The rumors he heard from the marines who first fought him were true.
His fleet of 25 ships is annihilated — only his still stands.
He can only see fire and hear cries for help.
Thunder strikes the deck and finally, he appears — The Blue Devil.
Short in height, a titan in strength.
The people say he is blue, but he looks dark with all the flames around.
His glowing eyes pierce the captain's soul. Marines can barely hold their guns.
Some even ask him to spare them.
The hedgehog takes a step and covers the distance between him and the captain in under a second. He looks up at him.
"I am going to an island called Sabaody. Tell all the marines in that area to leave me alone, or they will cause the loss of a lot of ships. I'm in a hurry, so they better get the message. I won't let another ship go unscathed."
He then disappears in a thunderous shockwave that leaves a massive crack where he was standing.
Back at sea, Sonic looks again at the Eternal Pose before shifting a gear.
Amy sits quietly on her box. She hasn't eaten or drunk in days.
Her hope of getting saved slowly fades.
"Maybe I got transported here alone…" she thinks.
"Lift your head up, Amy," Van says. "Don't let them think they beat you yet."
"Why does it matter to you?" Amy says, annoyed. "Didn't you already accept your fate?"
"They might have me physically. But here," he says, pointing at his head,
"no one can have this. So look up and smile. Life is beautiful, no matter how hard it is."
Guards come towards the cage.
"Get ready, people. The auction starts now."
