Chapter 2: Chapter 2: The Djinn’s Warning
Sylvia groaned as she slowly lifted her body, her silver scales glistening dimly in the flickering cave light. The wound on her side, though still fresh, no longer pulsed with unbearable pain. She stretched her body, flexing her wings slightly, before turning toward the young boy who had been clutching the rainbow-colored egg.
With a flick of her fingers, a soft glow of ancient magic enveloped Arthur, and his eyes fluttered shut. His breathing slowed, easing into a deep, undisturbed sleep.
Then, without warning—
Her body stiffened.
Her silver eyes glitched, flickering unnaturally as if her very existence was distorted. The cave shuddered, responding to an unseen force. Then, her eyes turned pure white, glowing with a brilliance unnatural even for a dragon.
Ashborn's expression darkened. His mana flared slightly, a silent warning.
"Who are you?" he demanded. "You are not Sylvia." His purple eyes are glowing.
The cave itself seemed to hold its breath as an ethereal voice echoed from Sylvia's lips—not her own, but something far older.
"Welcome to this world, visitors from far beyond the sky."
Jinwoo and Ashborn immediately tensed.
"I have temporarily taken her body under an agreement with Lady Sylvia," the voice continued. "We are the Ancient Mages, and we have long awaited your arrival, King of Death. Lady Sylvia is safe." said the entity ensuring Sylvia safety.
Ashborn's expression hardened, but he said nothing. Jinwoo, however, narrowed his eyes.
"Explain," Jinwoo demanded with his Aura leaking out.
The entity inside Sylvia took a slow breath. "I do not have much time. What I will tell you now will affect not just this world, but you both as well. Please, listen carefully."
Jinwoo and Ashborn exchanged a glance before Jinwoo gave a slight nod.
"Alright," he said. "Talk." and stopped his Aura.
The glowing-eyed Sylvia hesitated for a moment before speaking again, her voice heavy with something that felt like finality.
"You cannot learn the truth from Sylvia at this moment. If you do, the Key of Fate will interfere. The world will be destroyed." The entity said as it know the future.
Ashborn's purple mana pulsed dangerously. "What do you mean by that?"
the ancient entity using some of Sylvia's mana created a mana projection of a Fate is delicate," his words carried many wisdom from countless years of living, wrong move," the line snapped before shattering into countless tiny pieces. Letting the meaning of his words hang heavy in the air.
Jinwoo face contorted into a frown as he seem to contemplate his words carefully. "You're saying that we don't belong here," he calmly stated.
"Correct. Neither of you were ever meant to exist in this world. However, due to an unexpected disturbance in causality, Fate itself has placed you here," the entity said, as it showed a stone falling into a lake, creating ripples that spread outward.
Jinwoo clenched his fists and his aura is leaking again. "So what? Are you telling me some stupid fate is responsible for everything?"
He could feel his anger rising. His entire life—his suffering, his struggle, his world's destruction—and now someone was telling him it was all because of Fate?
"I'm sorry, King of Death," the entity said, a trace of regret in its tone. "But I do not have much time or freedom. The more I speak, the closer the Key of Fate comes to correcting this disruption."
Jinwoo remained silent, his thoughts racing.
"You must find the truth on your own. Every action you take will determine whether this world survives or perishes. I cannot reveal the full truth now, but you will discover it in time.," the entity said with Sylvia mana, severing a small thread of Fate...an act that rippled outward, unraveling countless destinies and bringing destruction to all.
Ashborn's voice broke the silence.
"How do we reach this Key of Fate?"
It was a simple question, but it revealed his understanding of the situation. Ashborn did not ask what the Key of Fate was—only how to reach it.
The entity inside Sylvia smiled slightly.
"This boy will lead you to it," they said, pointing at the sleeping Arthur. "He has the potential to become either the savior or the destroyer of this world. He will be at the center of fate's final decision."
Jinwoo frowned. "And why are you telling us this?"
The entity's glow flickered slightly.
"Because he will try to save this world alone in the future."
Jinwoo's breath hitched.
Saving the world alone… that path.
That was his path.
The path that cost him everything.
He remained silent, his mind clouded with memories of his past.
Then, the entity spoke again.
"Also—someone connected to you has arrived in this world."
Jinwoo's eyes widened. "What?"
"Yes, Shadow Monarch. Someone who holds a strong bond with you has entered this world as well."
Jinwoo's heart pounded.
"Who?" he demanded. "Where are they?"
The entity shook its head. "I cannot say. But you will meet them very soon."
Jinwoo's fists clenched as a single thought flashed through his mind. He wants to grab it's soul and make it say.
Was it his mother? His father? His sister?
Or…
His heart ached at the possibility.
"…Cha?" he whispered.
The entity paused for a moment before continuing.
"One more thing. You are not the only ones."
Jinwoo and Ashborn both turned their full attention to the entity.
"What do you mean?" Ashborn asked.
"More beings from beyond the stars have arrived. Just like you two, they were not meant to exist in this world. That is why Fate corrected itself by bringing you here."
Jinwoo gritted his teeth. He doesn't need to tell what's going on. Maybe a monarch escaped to here. It's a guess.
"Which means more threats," Ashborn muttered.
"Exactly," the entity confirmed. "And with that, my time is up. Let us meet again… Shadow Monarch."
In the next instant, the white glow vanished from Sylvia's eyes.
Her body collapsed.
Before she could hit the ground, Ashborn extended a hand, using his telekinesis to gently slow her fall.
The cave fell silent.
Jinwoo looked down at the sleeping Arthur, his mind storming with unanswered questions.
He had come to this world for a reason. But now… that reason had grown far more complicated.
Someone connected to him was here.
The Key of Fate existed.
And Arthur Leywin was the one who would lead them to it.
Jinwoo exhaled slowly.
"Things just got a lot more troublesome."
The dense forest was silent, save for the rustling leaves in the wind. Ashborn observed Sylvia's body with an analytical gaze. His glowing purple eyes scanned her rapidly fading life force.
"She will die," he said grimly. "The curse is eating away at her essence. Her life force is draining at an unnatural rate."
Jinwoo, who had been silent until now, turned his head slightly. The emotionless void in his eyes flickered with something new—resolve. Without a word, he reached into his inventory and pulled out a Holy Water of Life. Using telekinesis, he sent the shimmering vial to Ashborn.
Ashborn took the vial but hesitated. Why? He could already tell Jinwoo didn't waste resources on just anyone.
"Why are you saving her?" he asked.
Jinwoo's voice was calm but firm. "She didn't try to manipulate us. Even when she had the chance, she chose to reveal part of the truth instead. She didn't try to take advantage of us, and she protected this kid even while dying." His fingers clenched slightly. "She deserves a second chance."
Ashborn acknowledged his words with a nod. "She's a dragon—a creature of pride. But I sensed no arrogance in her, no superiority."
Without further words, Ashborn uncorked the vial and poured the Holy Water of Life into Sylvia's wounds. The liquid shimmered as it seeped into her scales, rapidly closing her fatal injuries. A radiant glow spread across her body as the cursed energy was repelled.
Jinwoo folded his arms, his gaze shifting to the sleeping child.
"What should we do now?" Ashborn asked, standing. "Once you choose a path, you can't turn back."
Jinwoo was silent for a moment, his eyes locked on Arthur's peaceful face. I don't want him to make the same mistakes as me. He can't save the world alone. And… I need to find the one who was brought here—the person connected to me.
His fists clenched slightly before he made his decision.
"We gather information, we will save this world." he commanded.
At his words, countless low-level shadows emerged from the darkness and dispersed into the surrounding forest, slipping through the trees like silent phantoms.
A soft groan came from Sylvia as her consciousness returned. The first thing she saw was Ashborn's glowing purple eyes just inches from her face.
The dragon let out a startled yelp, screaming like a high school girl.
Ashborn tilted his head slightly. "Are you okay?" he asked in his usual deep, emotionless tone.
Sylvia's massive draconic face turned a shade of red. D-Does this black-winged being not know personal space?!
"I—I'm fine," she stammered.
[A/N: both Ashborn and Jinwoo needs to study on personal space defination. They straight up rizz all girls with Aura]
Jinwoo, standing nearby, raised a brow at the exchange. Ashborn is clueless about how intimidating he looks up close.
"What happened to me?" Sylvia asked, still flustered.
Ashborn, completely unfazed, leaned in slightly. "We used a special medicine to heal you."
Sylvia's heart nearly exploded. Why is he so close?!
"You didn't have to do that for me," she muttered, looking away.
"Don't dwell on it," Ashborn replied, straightening. "We saved you. Make the most of your second chance."
Tears welled up in Sylvia's eyes. No one had ever given her such kindness without expecting something in return.
Before she could say more, an eerie, chilling voice interrupted.
"Give me a name, my Liege."
Everyone turned toward the source of the voice—a figure that shouldn't exist anymore.
A warrior clad in dark, ethereal armor knelt before Jinwoo. His body radiated shadow energy, his glowing purple eyes filled with absolute loyalty.
Ashborn narrowed his eyes. "Him?"
Jinwoo hummed in thought. "Yeah… what was his name again? Cabel?"
Sylvia's eyes widened in shock. "That's not Cabel—it's Cadell!"
Jinwoo barely reacted. He extended a hand, and the shadow warrior lowered his head further in submission.
"Then from this moment forward, you are Cabel."
Cabel's form shuddered with power, and his shadowy aura grew darker as his new identity solidified.
Sylvia was stunned. She had seen Cadell die by Ashborn hands. Yet here he was, kneeling before Jinwoo like a knight before his king.
Before she could process what she was witnessing, Jinwoo gently placed his hand on her forehead.
A rush of memories flooded her mind.
She saw glimpses of Jinwoo and Ashborn's true forms—beings of unfathomable power, commanding an army of darkness. She saw them stand above legions, crushing monarchs and devils alike.
When the visions ended, her eyes trembled. Slowly, she lowered her head.
"We were fools to call ourselves gods when beings like you exist in other worlds."
Jinwoo sighed. "No need to bow."
Ashborn, however, crossed his arms. "You must be a hybrid dragon, I can't believe a dragon like you exist."
Sylvia wants to say she is pure blooded Noble dragon but looking at his face made her heart tight for some reason.
Jinwoo chuckled slightly at his tone, while Sylvia found herself relaxing around them.
As the conversation shifted, she explained her race and Aether—the foundation of creation itself.
"Aether is higher than mana, but lesser beings cannot control it," she explained.
Ashborn's interest sharpened. "Aether is the foundation… then it is akin to a divine force. Mana is just a diluted form of it?"
"Exactly."
As the discussion continued, Arthur groaned as he slowly woke up.
Jinwoo and Ashborn's gazes turned to the boy.
The fateful meeting had only just begun.
