Ch. 127
Chapter 127: Ancient God Contract
"You’re still keeping secrets from me?"
Looking at Janna Roland’s evasive expression, Vivian Rose pouted and clung tightly to Janna’s arm, refusing to let go.
"The principal asked me to perform well. He said there’s a chance I might be recommended to take the White Tower Trial in Dordogne."
"White Tower Trial?"
Hearing Janna’s reply, Vivian Rose’s expression suddenly froze.
"If you pass, does that mean you’ll be going to Dordogne for further studies?"
"Sort of, but I’d need to pass the trial first. Otherwise, it’s just wishful thinking—"
At that moment, it was as if Vivian Rose’s ears had activated a white noise filter.
Except for the first part of Janna’s sentence, everything else passed straight through one ear and out the other without pause.
"So that means—we’re going to be separated..." "Vivian?"
"Ah, I’m fine."
Seeing Vivian Rose’s slightly lost and guilty expression, Janna smiled gently, having guessed her thoughts.
"What’s wrong? Are you going to miss me?"
"Yeah, I’ll miss you."
Hearing Vivian Rose’s frank and unfiltered response, Janna blinked in surprise. Her teasing smile gradually faded.
The two stood silently at the entrance of the Magic Tower for several seconds before Janna finally broke the silence. She looked Vivian Rose straight in the eyes and said seriously:
"In that case, let’s take the trial together."
"I’m not like you. I’m not capable—"
"Then give it a try."
Her hands were gently held, and as she felt the slightly cool touch of Janna’s palms, Vivian Rose, with her gaze lowered, couldn’t help but sigh.
"Then you have to wait for me... Even if you can’t, I hope... you’ll at least look back at me once in the future."
"I won’t wait for you."
Hearing Janna’s calm reply, Vivian Rose, who couldn’t see her expression, felt her heart skip a beat.
"Because I know—you’re the friend who will fight alongside me."
[Voice of the Heavens: Reduces the listener’s vigilance and brings about a soothing effect to the soul.]
"Janna—"
For some reason, every time she heard Janna’s voice, the gloom in Vivian Rose’s heart seemed to dissipate like clouds pierced by sunlight.
It felt like an invisible hand was gently squeezing her heart.
With no resistance at all, her emotional defenses were effortlessly taken down.
"It’s getting late. Let’s head back."
"Okay—let’s go back together!"
Clinging tightly to Janna’s arm, Vivian Rose smiled.
At the same time, a fire named "urgency" was already blazing within her heart.
Two years.
She only had two years.
If she couldn’t reach that level, Vivian Rose would have to come to terms with her own mediocrity—and accept that one day, they would inevitably be apart.
As reluctant as she was to face it, the path of a wizard was destined to be cruel and lonely.
It would never open its doors just because it pitied you.
The one it favored was always the one blessed by both talent and hard work.
Just like—her.
"I’m heading off now. Goodbye."
"Goodbye."
After parting with Vivian Rose, Janna also took the elevator back to the dormitory.
"On the path to immortality and transcendence, loneliness may well be the main theme for most—but I hope I won’t be one of them..."
She removed her Wizard Robe and placed the Magic Scroll on the lab table, then sighed quietly and sat down in the chair.
After a moment, Janna, who had been slightly dazed, finally returned her focus to the Magic Scroll she had spread out before her.
"Ancient God Contract—"
Reading aloud the name of the spell inscribed in Mykethan on the scroll, Janna’s eyes showed a hint of confusion.
"Ancient God Contract—is this a new branch of Contract Studies? Why haven’t I ever heard the principal mention it?"
During her first Contract Studies class, Anthony-Rook had briefly introduced the types of contract witchcraft to the apprentices.
According to the contract targets and summoning rituals, the field of Contract Studies could be divided into two categories:
The first, and more common, included Contract Summoning and Spirit Summoning;
The second, relatively specialized, included Shadow Summoning, Undead Summoning, Ghost Summoning, Sacrificial Summoning, and Prayer Summoning.
Currently, Janna had mastered low-level summoning rituals in Contract Summoning and Spirit Summoning.
Besides that, she had also witnessed Bell Moonshadow’s Shadow Summoning, Anthony-Rook’s Undead Summoning, and Ghost Summoning from the Ghost Child Padin Green in Blackbone Grove.
Sacrificial Summoning and Prayer Summoning belonged to the more advanced and conditional summoning rituals within Contract Studies.
The minimum Spirit Power requirement for entry-level learning was at the level of a Third Tier Wizard Apprentice—and even then, one might still not qualify...
"[Ancient God Contract], during the darkest hours, under the blessing of the Time Ritual, uses the mind as a link to connect with the coordinates of Ancient Gods hidden beyond the river of time and space. Using this as the medium, the final ritual is completed—"
Reading the ambiguous description on the scroll’s introduction page, Janna gradually furrowed her brows.
Even after reading the last word, she still couldn’t discern what kind of beings this seemingly profound "Ancient God Contract Studies" referred to.
"Could the Ancient Gods be ancient transcendent beings? But why would they exist outside the river of time and space?
Could they really be ancient deities?"
After a brief moment of thought, Janna shook her head.
Although she hadn’t read the entire scroll yet, any summoning group that allowed a Third Tier Wizard Apprentice to form an "equal contract" could never be actual "deities."
After all, Janna had once glimpsed the "God War" through the Seed Dream.
Even though the combatants were local wizards versus foreign deities, beings worthy of being called "gods" possessed at least the power of a First Tier Wizard or higher.
And such beings would never lower themselves to form equal contracts with a mere Third Tier Wizard Apprentice.
Shff—
After quickly signing the "Permanent Confidentiality Contract" on the scroll’s title page, the main body of the scroll gradually unfolded before Janna.
But after only a short while, due to the rapid depletion of her Spirit Power and the tears welling up from the stinging in her eyes, Janna had to close the scroll again.
"There’s actually a Spirit Power curse on this scroll—"
Rubbing her sore eyes, Janna finally understood why the principal had advised her to wait until she was a Third Tier Apprentice before studying the scroll.
It wasn’t because the contents of the Ancient God Contract were overly complex or profound, but because anyone who studied the scroll’s knowledge would be temporarily cursed with a Spirit Power "curse," forcibly draining the reader’s Spirit Power.
And to fully read the scroll’s content, Janna would need at least thirty points of Spirit Power...
