So I Became a Witch and Started Doing Daily Quests

Ch. 109

Chapter 109: Red-Level Mission

This time, the members summoned by the White Ballet Shoes Club were all enrolled apprentices. Members like David Berg, who had already graduated, were not included in the invitation list for this meeting.

“Since everyone is here, let’s get started.”

Carefully avoiding the active magical plants in the classroom, Richard Eva walked up to the podium to begin the meeting.

“Hugh, come up and talk. After all, your squad was the first to discover this matter.”

At those words, a male apprentice dressed like a mercenary nodded, declined Richard Eva’s invitation to come to the podium, and simply spoke from his seat:

“This matter wasn’t exactly discovered by me first. After all, it’s already spread within Blackbone Grove.”

The speaker was Hugh Stone, a Second Tier Wizard Apprentice. Janna had a strong impression of him since he persistently invited her to join his mercenary squad every time they ate.

“The news from Blackbone Grove is that the Darksun Church has started to act again—”

At these words, everyone present grew serious, and the atmosphere in the conference room turned heavy.

“A week ago, several First Tier apprentices from Blackbone Grove went missing. Later, their charred bones were found at a hidden altar of the Darksun Church—”

The Darksun Church was a faith-based organization founded by a group of Darksun worshippers.

Although the members of the church were ordinary people without supernatural powers, the divine transformation granted by Darksun Apostles gave some of the devout followers extraordinary ‘undying power’ and ‘contaminating traits.’

The ‘undying power’ was different from the [Undead Trait] possessed by undead creatures; it was a more extreme form of ‘resurrection’ and ‘indestructible flesh.’

With firm belief, as long as the soul sacrifice was completed before death, these followers could continuously resurrect in areas under the Darksun’s shroud.

However, this type of ‘resurrection’ came with severe side effects.

With each revival, the follower’s lifespan, youth, and health would rapidly deteriorate.

Moreover, the soul’s fragmentation caused them to lose basic reason, leaving them in a constant state of madness—living corpses incapable of thought.

At the same time, the bodies of Darksun followers after resurrection possessed a formidable regenerative ability comparable to Bloodline Wizard Apprentices.

Wound healing, limb regeneration, head reconstruction—unless thoroughly purified or destroyed with highly destructive elemental magic, it was nearly impossible to eliminate them with ordinary means.

Additionally, the ‘contaminating traits’ bestowed by Darksun were inhumane.

Using their bodies as vessels of blood, every Darksun follower carried a large amount of radioactive contamination and plague curses.

In death, they polluted the environment; alive, they brought plague curses upon others. However, this trait affected only the supernatural beings in the Wizard World. To ordinary people, they instead appeared to be ‘saviors.’

[Praise suffering, reject pleasure.]

According to the Darksun Church’s doctrines, every person was born impure.

Only by enduring the utmost suffering in this life could one attain true transcendence in the next.

They preached that all things in the world were created by the Darksun.

The Darksun was the creator, the benevolent father.

The Darksun loved pure souls and despised delusion and greed.

Only those who dedicated everything to the Darksun could enter the divine kingdom and enjoy eternal bliss after death; the greedy would fall into hellfire and never reincarnate.

And wizards, according to the Darksun doctrine, were the greediest and most unforgivable blasphemers.

“It is now confirmed that those apprentices died in a blood sacrifice ritual of the Darksun Church. Although Blackbone Grove Academy quickly dispatched people to eliminate them, some remnants hiding in the shadows have not been completely eradicated and are still on the run…”

“Fortunately, those remnants are severely injured and not particularly powerful, so they shouldn’t pose much of a threat to us. But I heard the reason the Darksun Church risked performing the blood sacrifice ritual this time was because a Darksun Apostle descended into the Wizard World through the ritual—and one of the Dark Wizard Apprentices became the vessel for the Apostle’s descent.”

Upon hearing Hugh Stone’s continuous shocking revelations, everyone who had felt some relief after the main Darksun followers had been dealt with by Blackbone Grove grew tense again upon learning that among the remaining fugitives might be a Darksun Apostle. The classroom’s atmosphere plummeted once more.

“Ding—”

Just as Janna was silently processing this information, a familiar task trigger notification sounded in her mind.

[Long-Term Mission: Locate and Eliminate the Remnants of the Darksun Church.

Mission Rewards: 1000 Talent EXP, 3000 Skill EXP, three random rewards.

Mission Duration: Unlimited.]

Looking at the striking red text on the Quest Panel and the significantly increased mission rewards, Janna felt a chill but forced herself to remain calm.

“Is this mission serious?”

Any Darksun follower who had managed to evade Blackbone Grove’s pursuit until now must have exceptional stealth skills.

Moreover, Blackbone Grove had formal wizards, and even they had failed to locate these targets.

For Janna, who had only recently become a Second Tier Wizard Apprentice, finding them was as difficult as reaching the heavens.

Not to mention, one of them was hiding a Darksun Apostle of unknown strength.

Even if the Apostle was in a weakened state after descending, there was no guarantee they didn’t have some life-saving means. If Janna recklessly charged forward, it would be no different from courting death.

“No wonder it’s a red-level mission. Even the difficulty is absurdly high.”

Knock knock.

While Janna was still distracted by the mission, Richard Eva, standing at the podium, knocked on it, breaking the classroom silence.

“Everyone, although what Hugh shared sounds serious, it’s not entirely hopeless. After all, those Darksun remnants are all injured. Even if they can heal external wounds, the curses and negative conditions cannot be removed so easily—”

At this point, Richard Eva and Hugh Stone exchanged a glance. Understanding his cue, Hugh Stone continued:

“Richard is right. Also, as far as I know, the Darksun Apostle is currently in a terrible state and can’t even use one ten-thousandth of their power. But because the Apostle’s concealment techniques are so advanced, the wizards of Blackbone Grove haven’t been able to eliminate them yet.”

“That’s why, in three days, Blackbone Grove will officially issue a bounty mission to our academy and Mist Tower. The mission reward is a top-grade apprentice magical tool.”
