Sky-cracking Rider

Chapter 491: Section 487 - The Working People

```
Although A-level Metal Ability User Kiterley couldn't make a fancy feast, whipping up a breakfast to satisfy hunger posed no difficulty whatsoever.
Eggs, butter, salt, toast, bacon, sausage, and pickles—it would be somewhat challenging to turn these ingredients into a culinary disaster.
Chen Fei was even less fussy, and after washing up, he downed his portion in no time, accompanied by freshly squeezed orange juice.
No sooner had they finished breakfast than Adrian came knocking on the door, informing Chen Fei and Kiterley that they were needed to help out in the city district.
Though not completely in ruins, Hablav City was little better off.
The new job for the two Metal Ability Users was to assist with the repair and maintenance of various equipment and facilities in the city's defense system.
Moreover, Adrian, who had worried all night about Chen Fei getting involved with the Magic Array, finally breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that it was Chen Fei who answered the door.
In reality, there was nothing to worry about.
Compared to that, Industrial-grade Abilities were far more important than Magic Arrays.
The Sovereignty was not completely unaware, they just turned a blind eye, pretending not to see, but this detail was recorded in Chen Fei's personal file.
Not just Chen Fei and Kiterley, everyone else also had their own assignments.
After the mutant attack, Hablav City was left in shambles and in great need of reconstruction, requiring a lot of manpower. No one could afford to be idle.
Especially since they were being paid by the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee, one obviously had to do whatever the superiors commanded.
A worker is like a brick; he goes wherever he is needed.
The abilities of Ability Users are not limited to fighting battles; there is also a great demand for them in production and construction.
-----------------
The entire city of Hablav had become one big construction site, with the sound of banging and clanging everywhere.
A booming dull thud, the tumbling of rocks and earth—as a thick cloud of dust began to rise, it was quickly enveloped by a dense mist of water, turning into large currents of mud that flowed into a pre-dug pit. Experience new tales on My Virtual Library Empire
Following that, clear water naturally separated itself and plunged into a nearby concrete pool, mixing with cement and gravel, slowly rotating to blend evenly.
"Hey, hey, stop daydreaming!"
Chen Fei slapped Kiterley, who was blankly staring at the breach in the wall.
"Oh, oh!"
Kiterley finally snapped back to reality.
His Metal Elemental Psychic Power was geared towards combat and wasn't of much use in construction, so he could only help out with odds and ends, like making tools or bending steel plates and iron bars—it was barely passable. For major projects, they still had to rely on their little brother Chen Fei.
Chen Fei took a few steps forward and reached out his hand. The skills "Metal Shaping" and "Elemental Decomposition/Synthesis" were alternately activated.
The various metals scavenged from nearby swiftly fused into several thick steel rebars, interlacing and intertwining with each other and connecting to the mostly intact foundation rebars, erecting a steel rebar cage standing over thirty meters high from the ground. Then, steel plates were pieced together to form a colossal all-metal mold box, identical in size and dimensions to the neighboring intact section of the wall.
The well-mixed concrete, under the joint control of the Earth Element Ability User and the Water-Based Ability User, poured into this giant mold box, completing the filling.
After 24 hours, it reached 30% of its hardening strength, and its surface form began to stabilize. After a week, it would reach 90% of its hardening strength, at which point the outer steel plates could be removed, allowing it to continue to dry and harden.
After another week, this section of the wall would be restored to its original state, and over time, the overall strength would indefinitely approach 100%.
While pouring the concrete cement, Chen Fei continued to erect a second steel rebar cage, constructing another wall mold box just like before.
The section of the wall breached by the mutant attack was a gaping hole some sixty meters long. With ten meters per section, it would take at least seven to completely restore the wall.
Almost all the main workers on-site were Ability Users, as Mages could hardly handle such complex operations.
The wall mold was the first to be completed. Although it looked hollow from the outside, once it was filled with cement, it would quickly become a solid wall.
Kiterley, who had mucked in with various tasks, took the opportunity to grab a drink for his little brother, Chen Fei. One couldn't blame him for slacking; there wasn't much help he could offer anyway, and it was already good enough that he didn't cause any trouble.
Sipping on the cool beverage with a contented smile, he glanced at the time and said, "I thought we'd be at it for three days, but it's only been an hour, and we're already done."
Without a comparison, there would be no hurt feelings. Immediately, the expressions of the other Ability Users, busy activating their Special Abilities to mix the cement, became complicated.
The original schedule indeed planned for three days, but Chen Fei's efficiency with his Metal Elemental Ability was frighteningly high. With the rebar cages and mold boxes all ready, they had no reason to leisurely mix the cement. They were busy to the point of being drenched in sweat, and inevitably they got covered with dots of mud, looking like they had been through the wringer.
Not at all like the two guys who were drinking beverages and chatting leisurely, their clothes unmarred by even a speck of dust, standing by and making offhand comments.
It's aggravating, isn't it?
"Great work, everyone! Take it easy, no rush!"
What else could Chen Fei do but say a few kind words, lest because of Big Brother Kiterley, he ended up taking an undeserved hit.
If they became infuriated and slapped a pool of concrete over... the next generation of civilization might well dig up the fossils of him and Kiterley.
"Hey, you two, are you done with your work? Uh, what...?"
The supervisor responsible for the area ambled over and naturally spotted the two "slackers."
But then his gaze shifted, and he caught sight of the steel "wall" level with the nearby intact city wall, and he couldn't help but crack a smile.
Theoretically, the job was done, and they could start relaxing.
```

But no matter how you looked at it, it felt awkward. Right, while others were bustling about, these two gentlemen were spectating and making snarky comments. No, this wouldn't do; they couldn't just stand around. Better send them off to work.

"You two, over there, help repair the weapon platforms."

Kiterley, who found even wielding a screwdriver to be too much trouble, definitely couldn't handle such delicate work. If he messed it up, the cost would be too great to reimburse; he shook his head vehemently like a rattle-drum.

"Eh? Weapon platforms? No, can't do, I'm not cut out for this!"

As he was beating a retreat, Chen Fei directly dragged him away.

"Let's go, let's go, you can hand me the screws."

Chen Fei, perceptive as he was, could see that the foreman had no room for idlers in his eyes.

So even if it was just for show, he had to look as if he was hard at work, even hunched over with his butt sticking out. It didn't matter if he couldn't do it, just as long as he wasn't idle.

Better to switch locations quickly and avoid being a nuisance in this spot.

With the two eyesores dispatched elsewhere, the ability users busy mixing cement finally breathed a sigh of relief.

-

When the mutant swarm attacked the city defences, the damage to the various weapon platforms had been worse than sections of the wall being destroyed.

Wherever you looked, aside from the potholes and ditches, where the weapon platforms were supposed to be, there was nothing but heaps of twisted copper and iron. Just cleaning up this mess would take a lot of manpower.

Within a thousand steps in any direction, besides the brand-new, still-warm crates that had just been delivered, not a ghost of a person could be seen. Except for Chen Fei and Kiterley, there was nobody else, so it was all on them.

Now there was no one left to listen to their witty remarks.

CTM!

"Just the two of us?"

"Seems like... that's the case."

Kiterley and Chen Fei looked at each other, involuntarily shrinking their necks. They had assumed that at least there would be an engineer to guide them through the installation, or at the very least a technician.

But it was just the two of them!

And a dozen or so thick manuals.

It had to be said, the big shots in Hablav City sure had guts to trust such an important job to two amateurs.

If by some chance the mutants attacked again, and all the weapon platforms installed by Chen Fei and Kiterley failed, the joke would be on them, and the city might just suffer another breach.

"What do we do?"

Kiterley looked towards his younger brother Chen Fei. Forget about starting the installation, just reading the manual made his head spin, and if he stared at it any longer, he might just pass out on the spot.

A bunch of individual words that might make sense on their own, but once combined, it was more complicated than curse magic.

"Hmm, 'sacrifice' the whole lot and then get to work! Kiterley, you handle the unpacking."

Chen Fei thought for a moment, then picked up a manual.

Screw this, I'm done pretending!

"Sacrifice? You sure you dare?"

Kiterley quickly looked around. Chen Fei's "sacrifice" skill was far too domineering. With a "copy" following the sacrifice, it meant these weapon platforms would soon have no secrets left.

They were powerful weapons intended to defend Hablav City, and here they were, just small-time employees of private military contractors, daring to tamper with high-grade weaponry.

"Who cares!"

Chen Fei opened a manual and then looked up, glancing left and right, pointing at one of the crates and declaring, "The D-600 type parallel railgun, that's the one."

'D' stands for dual, parallel; 600 denotes the maximum caliber (in millimeters), with a maximum range of 700 kilometers, making it perfect for deep strikes. Not only for city defense but still a top-tier weapon of war.

If the Aircrew Base had something like this for protection, there would be no need to send out combat flight squadrons on long-range raids to nearby hostile bases. Just firing the maximum caliber full-power shells from their position would remove any opponent's Aircrew Base in at most four or five shots.

Of course, private military contractors were not allowed to possess such devastating weaponry.

Kiterley unpacked the crate with trepidation while Chen Fei immediately "sacrificed" the heavy artillery inside.

His "Physical Evolution Database" skill instantly acquired a "D-600 type parallel railgun heavy cannon." Unless Chen Fei was killed, no one could extract this heavy weapon from his mind.

Then with a "pop," it was installed!

As long as there were enough energy points, the "Physical Evolution Database" meant countless trial and error iterations were possible.

Kiterley had no need to worry.

"SE-2500 shockwave cannon," "L-12 laser cannon," "F-120 railgun rapid-fire cannon"... Although there seemed to be numerous crates on-site, there were actually only four types of weapon platforms, each falling victim to a "sacrificial" fate.

Chen Fei also seized the opportunity to acquire three magic arrays.

"Light Gathering," "Wave Gathering," and "Crystal Energy Conversion," were mostly for collecting energy in conjunction with the crystalline blocks inside the weapon platforms.

However, compared to the core "Crystal Energy Conversion" magic array, it was entirely useless to Chen Fei, overlapping completely with his own skill, "Light/Electric/Magnetic/Crystal Energy Universal Converter and Management Component."
