Sky-cracking Rider

Chapter 432: Section 428 - Introduction

There was only one person who met the criteria.

Shen Songling asked doubtfully, "Chen Fei?"

The young man shared a bond of life and death with his daughter, an exceptionally uncommon relationship.

"Yes, him!"

The beloved daughter smiled radiantly.

Damn, the old father's heart skipped a beat instantly.

Where did this foolish boy come from, not staying put in the Xingdu Kush Mountain Area, but chasing after her for what purpose!

"Do you need his help?"

Shen Fei continued to probe.

As President Sun had said, Prototype 2 had already crashed into a pile of scrap metal, and trying to steal secrets from it would likely be extremely difficult.

Shen Songling hesitated for a moment, then said, "Well... bring him over to take a look!"

What he really wanted was to see what was so special about this silly boy. If he wasn't satisfied at first impression, he'd promptly tell him to get lost!

"Understood, I'll bring him right over."

Shen Fei waved her little fist and immediately zoomed off on her electric bike.

The "looking" that both the father and daughter had in mind was the same word, but the actual meaning behind it was not the same at all.

Without Shen Fei acting as a buffer, the experts quickly began to argue with each other again without any courtesy.

Moments later, two foldable electric bikes brought Chen Fei and Shen Fei back to the crash site, entering the wind barrier.

The barrier only had a significant buffering effect on airflow; winds below First Level could still enter and it didn't have much effect on solid objects.

"Director Shen, I've brought Chen Fei over!"

Shen Fei spoke in proper business jargon.

"Director Shen, hello, I'm Chen Fei!"

On the way here, Chen Fei had listened to Shen Fei's introduction to their positions within the Northern Weapons Industry Group—he as the vice president, and she as the secretary. In public, it was professional, and in private, personal; after all, when it comes to appointing the worthy, nepotism can be convenient for keeping it in the family.

Shen Songling sized up the utterly ordinary young man following his daughter and reached out to shake hands with him.

"Hmm, I'm Shen Songling, and also Xiao Fei's father!" He then shifted the conversation directly to the main topic.

"Secretary Shen mentioned that you work as a combat pilot and mechanic for a military contractor? And you've awakened a Special Ability?"

"Yes!"

Chen Fei confirmed without hesitation. A proud undergraduate of economics, he had given up on graduate studies to work miles away in the Xingdu Kush Mountain Area as a pilot and mechanic. Such is life—things often don't go as one wishes.

It was not uncommon to find people working in fields unrelated to their majors, and Chen Fei was not the only one.

There was once a painter who started the Second World War, and before him, a great mage cast a Forbidden Curse, summoning a meteor from the sky, defeating an army of 420,000 with few, reversing the tide of battle to revitalize the empire, an era known as the Guangwu revival. The world of Cangqiong Star, with its magical civilization, had no record of such wars. Thus, these off-topic feats of legend were not uncommon in the history of Blue Star, so there was nothing to complain about.

"Which aerospace university did you graduate from? What was your major?"

Shen Songling was digging for more information because many large corporations, including Northern Weapons, paid attention to students from relevant universities to maintain a steady input of high-quality new blood. They knew the strengths, weaknesses, and personalities of any student with good grades. If they saw potential in someone, they wouldn't wait for graduation to propose an employment agreement, and some would even sponsor the student from the start, ensuring their talent was secured well in advance. Although costly, it made it harder for others to poach their prospects.

But he had never heard of someone named Chen Fei.

Chen Fei reported the name of a school, while it wasn't among the top three, it was a top ten, first-tier prestigious university. A slight deviation in exam scores, and he wouldn't even have received an admission notice.

After all, anyone who made it into university was generally considered the cream of the crop, the elite of society.

"Ah? The economics major?"

The reply startled Shen Songling; both the university and the major had nothing to do with aerospace—at least, except when doing budgeting.

If the aerospace industry leaders had known his name before, it would have been truly bizarre!

"That's right!"

The father of Shen Fei held a high position in the Northern Weapons Industry Group, and as a typical authoritative middle-aged male leader, every action and word exuded a pressurizing force. Yet, Chen Fei maintained composure from start to finish, not showing any signs of being inferior.

Truth be told! He had managed many more with leadership style from the Neanderthal Supreme Council... uh, that was a can of worms better left unopened, for Teacher Shen would surely be displeased if brought up.

It was very rare for a nervous son-in-law to meet his father-in-law for the first time and get tongue-tied in reality.

Everyone was an adult, hardened and weathered by society's trials and storms; their mental fortitude wasn't so fragile. From another perspective, a man with poor psychological quality wouldn't be able to find a girlfriend in the first place, let alone worry about meeting a future father-in-law—he'd be eliminated at the very start.

"Did you enter this profession so quickly because of talent?"

Shen Songling didn't think choosing the wrong major was a peculiar issue. There had been presidents hampered by their acting careers, emperors held back by carpentry, and painters whose roars in the face of the enemy had delayed them. Such examples were not uncommon, and ultimately people returned to the right path—continuing what they were meant to do, rather than sticking to a wrong choice out of stubbornness.

"No, because of Special Abilities!"

Chen Fei had entered the field thanks to the "Physical Evolution Database" skill and his rote memorization of technical manuals.

Of course, the instruction and training from Big Brother Xiao, the chief mechanic, and the foundation classes at the Eagle Nest Cram School essentially completed what Chen Fei lacked in specialized education. However, "Rookie" remained his lasting nickname.

"Chen Fei's special ability should be industrial-grade!"

Shen Fei reminded her dad.

Most of the household appliances in the kitchen and dormitories of the Patan Elementary School in the mountain area were evolved by Chen Fei using his abilities. If that didn't qualify as industrial-grade, then the classification for metal elemental combat abilities was definitely wrong. While there were plenty that excelled at destruction, abilities suitable for production and construction were always in the minority.

"Industrial-grade ability?"

Shen Songling was genuinely surprised.

The awakening rate established on the basis of the population indicated that, on average, only one supernatural power user would appear per three thousand people. Still, the low-level ability users were often of no use in the industrial sector.

To truly qualify as an industrial-grade ability user, one must be at least an A-level psychic.

To be precise, the control power assessment must be A-level or above. B-level is already a struggle just to assemble an entire gear. As for even lower levels of control power, the quality of work is too rough to bear watching.

Moreover, not every A-level metal ability user possesses an A-level control power assessment. If every category needed to reach A-level for someone to be rated as an A-level ability user overall, the number of A-level psychics today would be even fewer, possibly reduced by more than half.

"Little Chen, your superpower level is... no, what's your control power assessment level?"

Shen Songling GOT the point; the overall assessment level is not the key, the control power is.

"Control power is A-level! Precision is at the molecular level!"

That's right, Chen Fei was like a human-shaped melting, forging, milling, and boring integrated machine, beloved by all, flowers blooming at his sight. Henghai Tactical Weapons Group, the leader in the local individual protection equipment industry, was also willing to let him "fleece" them (with gritted teeth).

Charging ahead is not necessarily the most powerful, but working logistics is definitely indispensable and top-tier.

Whether it's the 911 Aircrew Base or the newly established "Bear Hunting Special Operations Division" under the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee, the positions they arranged for him couldn't have been more fitting.

"Molecular level?!"

Shen Songling was even more moved; this was definitely the level of precision engineering, standing out in the industrial field, naturally cut out for this line of work.

"Chen Fei is pretty impressive, right?"

His daughter couldn't help showing a proud expression, having recommended such a useful talent to her dad.

"Impressive!"

As the vice president of the Northern Weapons Industry Group, Shen Songling clearly knew how hard it was to find such industrial-grade ability users.

Most industrial enterprises relied on technical equipment rather than psychics. Metal ability users with A-level control power were incredibly useful but exceedingly rare.

A workshop of ability users was only feasible if a large sovereignty had a population base large enough to enforce conscription. Smaller sovereignties couldn't even dare to imagine such a thing, and the projects that required such capability were bound to be critical emergencies.

Shen Fei tentatively asked, "Can Chen Fei... do it?"

Emmmmmm... Chen Fei always felt that Teacher Shen was setting a trap for her dad.

"Then let's go take a look!"

Shen Songling eventually consented, partly because Chen Fei was a local resident.

If it were any other sovereignty's registration, it would have been an outright veto without any hesitation.

"Authorized. Chen Fei, let's go have a look together!"

Shen Fei made a V-sign with her hands, noticing that the expert group had started another argument. Their voices grew louder, several whiteboards were set up, illustrating charts and comparing data on the spot, as everyone tried hard to prove their point. The on-site seminar was just beginning.

"Oh!"

Chen Fei looked at the pile of burnt wreckage twitching his eyebrows.

Since he started his career, he had never dealt with wreckage to this extent. At the 911 Aircrew Base, it should have all been thrown into the recycling bins for degradation and remelting, turned into alloy ingots, waiting to be reused. He couldn't fathom what there was to study.

"President Sun, Vice President Nangong, Worker Ge, Worker Ma... everyone, I've brought him here."

Shen Fei introduced the experts on site to Chen Fei while introducing him to everyone.

"Young man, take a look first before we talk,"

President Sun Qiuguo of the "Canglong" project didn't give any hints and just gestured toward the pile of charred wreckage. The debris was scattered around, but the main body was still there, having crashed into a big pit in the snow.

"Is it okay to touch them directly?"

Chen Fei knew that the aircraft which had crashed must be part of an ongoing secret project and thus involved various secrets.

Although Shen Fei had brought him here, he couldn't afford to be careless.

"No problem, no problem, feel free!"

Sun Qiuguo waved his hand.

If the secrets of the "Canglong" project could be stolen just by touching them, they might as well not bother with their jobs.
