Chapter 1109: On the Island (Part 2)
"'Adam', why are these guys still on the island?"
Chen Fei directly asked the AI "Adam" managing the camp.
No matter how many copies there are, it's essentially just one entity.
Not only did Chen Fei notice people in the planting area outside the camp, Miyoshi Xuesen and Heseman Brown also saw them.
"Huh? Aren't these the young folks who secretly slipped to Antalu Star to watch the excitement?"
"What are they doing? Farming? Giving up being supernatural power users to become farmers instead!"
Adam: No one came to pick them up! Habulav had no response.
"Did something happen at the Global United Defense Committee Headquarters?"
That no one came to pick up these young superpower users was unimaginable to Chen Fei, who immediately guessed that perhaps the chaos within The Federation had spread to the Yangzhou Continent, causing these poor seven to be forgotten.
The Yangzhou Continent was a heavily afflicted area overrun by mutants, and to this day, it remains impossible to clean up completely. Much like a wildfire that never dies out, it constantly produces new mutants emerging from the vast sea of sand in the Central Great Desert in the continent's interior. Meanwhile, the headquarters of the Global United Defense Committee in Habulav is the frontline for purging mutants. It's hard to imagine what kind of trouble could affect this relatively isolated militarized city.
"I'll contact them!"
Miyoshi Xuesen immediately took out his phone, as his role included liaising with the Joint Defense Committee, aside from having personal connections that could provide many insights.
While the Monk was contacting Habulav, Chen Fei instructed the combat mech guarding the camp to summon those seven young people who suddenly changed to being farmers.
The vast farmland outside the camp never seemed idle; there were never any arrangements, but people occasionally managed it.
Seeing the seven young people who appeared much more subdued and even somewhat restrained, Chen Fei glanced at them and asked, "What made you think about farming? Didn't anyone come to pick you up?"
In just a few days, the equatorial sunlight at Aden Bay had turned them somewhat red—after all, Caucasians don't tan but get red; only those of mixed Asian descent might tan.
The seven looked at each other, and finally, their gaze rested on one person—a young S-Class Superpower User named Lu Man.
His expression was a bit odd, and he stammered, "We... don't have any airship to pick us up. The sovereignty told us to swim back... since we're idle anyway, we might as well farm to pass the time."
With no one to pick them up and unable to leave Socotra Island surrounded by seawater at Aden Bay, they were left with nothing but farming to alleviate their boredom and not die of idleness.
"Your own sovereignty won't take care of you?"
Chen Fei was at a loss for words, incredulous that anyone would be left uncared for over such a matter.
While he could understand being bored enough to farm to pass the time, it was bewildering that the sovereign powers backing these superpower users wouldn't mind them.
"They're not wrong. Currently, global transport capacity is stretched thin; there are indeed no spare airships to arrange their return home."
Miyoshi Monk, having just finished contacting Habulav, returned to Chen Fei's side with important news, confirming why these unfortunate individuals had been abandoned.
If not for that injection of the Supernatural Ability Suppressant, six A-level superpower users plus one S-Class could have swum home across the sea. But now, with all of them reduced to their original state, whoever dared venture into the sea would die. It was wiser to stay on the island and farm, at least not starve or die of idleness, or drown.
"Transport capacity is tight, and airships are running out? How could this be possible!"
Chen Fei found it unbelievable. With so many aircraft in Blue Star Civilization, what situation could possibly lead to a globally busy aviation situation?
"The wealthy are busy fleeing—not just The Federation, but Europa and the Yangzhou Continent are also affected. Many supplies aren't reaching there, causing life and operational materials in Habulav to run short."
The information Miyoshi Xuesen gathered was not good news.
The turmoil within The Federation acted like a fuse, triggering a chain reaction. Today's global integration means if one entity suddenly falls into misfortune, everyone has no choice but to suffer as well, together facing calamity.
"Fleeing? Where to?"
Chen Fei felt it was somewhat unbelievable.
What are these wealthy people running around for? Can't they just stay put and be safe?
Federation turmoil, fleeing outside to avoid disaster makes sense. But Europa has not yet descended into such chaos, and yet people are fleeing—it's perplexing.
"The wealthiest are fleeing to Asia; those with less money are fleeing to Africa. Several of those fleeing to Africa have even banded together to establish closed new communities, even planning to seize governing power and establish their own sovereignty. Regardless of where they flee, they occupy substantial transport resources, taking everything they can carry, and many places have sold out of tickets, with even border roads clogged solid."
The Monk painted a picture of a world in turmoil, where fear and unrest reigned.
In perilous times, those with means are the first to know, and they immediately pack up and flee, taking away all the resources, leaving the oblivious ordinary citizens to suffer, making an already unstable situation even worse.
