Chapter 159: Hunt in the Hole III
As the two sides stood in a face-off against each other, Felix tilted his head as he glanced between Victor and the Executive of an enemy guild, Timor.
'Brothers? But they don't resemble each other....', he turned to Trellur.
"They're not blood-related, right? I can at least see that. So what's with their relationship as brothers?"
"Well... how should I say this?", Trellur hesitated before finding the right words to explain.
"They were both raised by the same person after their families threw them out, which made them brothers. But both of them had opposite personalities and always clashed with each other in rivalry, which continued even after their caretaker died and they went separate ways."
Felix nodded as he now understood why they were still in a staring contest with each other.
They were most likely unsure of how to converse and interact with the way things had changed between them, with both of them becoming a member of opposing guilds which made them enemies.
"Victor, aren't you going to ask me which guild I've joined?", Timor narrowed his eyes which gleamed strangely.
Victor shook his head with a straight face. "It doesn't matter, Timor. Your choices and decisions have always been wrong, because even now.... you're standing on the wrong side."
Timor just smirked at his words, not minding as he chuckled.
"That's the part I've always hated about you, Victor. You think you're always right and dump your opinions on me about the way I do things. But I think it's just you being self-righteous Victor!", Timor sneered as he spat on the ground.
"You, who never made any effort to find the person who killed our dad."
His words stunned the crowd, making Trellur glance at Victor in worry, but the man still had an expressionless face.
'Oh boy, they're interfering with my hunting time...', Felix bit his lip as he truly didn't care about their backstory, 'there's a few thousand skill points here for fuck's sake!'
"That's enough, Timor. I don't want to drag this out any longer.", Victor replied calmly.
'Yes, that's it! Just end it already, Victor! Hmm? Ah! Wait- the ending blow.... I must at least take it.', Felix sensed the surroundings with his Battlefield Awareness and was ready for the next battle.
"Fine by me, Victor. I've always wanted to face you again after those years, but....", Timor peeked at Meldon who gave him a subtle nod.
"Unfortunately, that time isn't today."
As soon as he ended his words, Timor grabbed the Rank 2 man beside him named Owen and threw him forward with a shout.
"Do it now, Meldon!"
The other man, a Rank 3 mage named Meldon hurriedly took out a scroll and tore it into pieces.
Light engulfed the two of them out of nowhere, as everyone else was shocked at their quick actions while Victor and the rest were blocked by Owen who flew helplessly towards them.
"See you later, Victor.", Timor grinned as his and Meldon's bodies disappeared in the light under everyone's sight, and nothing of their presence remained in the tunnel.
"What?! They... they....", Owen who had now fallen near Victor's feet looked behind him in shock as he processed what had happened.
"....they abandoned me?"
Similar to him, Felix also had a dissapointment expression on his face.
'Sigh... there goes my two thousand skill points....'
Trellur moved forward and easily captured the shocked Owen, calling Elsa and Evan to freeze his nerves and tying him up with a rope.
Victor glanced around the scene as he sighed at Timor's escape, knowing this was going to make trouble for him later on.
"What do we now, Victor? Considering they left one of their behind, that teleporting artifact shouldn't have a high range of reach. Should we search for them and hunt them down?", Trellur asked with a frown which made Felix perk up at it.
Victor shook his head and turned around. "No. We can't waste more time here, the others back at the base must be waiting for us. It won't be good to delay any further and worry them."
Evan who had now tied up the crying Owen stood up as he pointed forward.
"There's one hole remaining there. I think a few from the enemy guilds are still there."
His words reminded them of the last few members of the enemy guilds as Felix's eyes lit up.
'Right! Maybe I can take them out!'
He stepped forward, ready to use this chance and gain more skill points.
"Everyone," Victor didn't hesitate as he ordered. "Throw all your long range attacks into that hole, we can't let any more of them escape."
Before Felix could argue for letting him do that, the other guild members who had been previously trapped by the enemies rushed towards the hole.
"No wait-"
A series of spells and attacks then rained into the hole, where a Rank 3 and a few Rank 2 enemy guild members could only helplessly watch as they became target of those merciless attacks.
"Shit! We're being attacked!"
"No that's too much!!"
"Aaaghh!!!"
Barry and Owen who were now standing together tied up as hostages could only close their eyes in resignation.
"It's over... they're all dead.", Barry muttured in dejection.
"Yeah... but I don't care anymore.", Owen slowly opened his eyes as he still couldn't believe what had happened before.
"To think they abandoned me and escaped...."
Barry looked at the man beside him and felt pity for him, but he shrugged with a helpless smile.
"Well, at least we're alive, right?"
Owen didn't reply, only looking down at the ground with a weird gaze in his eyes.
A few seconds later, silence remained in the tunnel as dust and blood flew around inside the hole.
Evan glanced into the hole with his sharp eyes and then turned to nod at Victor after his careful search.
"They're all dead. No one of the enemy guilds remains. It's our win."
Victor nodded back as everyone smiled at their victory, except for the silver-haired boy who scratched his head.
"Haa.... what a waste."
Victor turned to face everyone as he clapped his hands to get their attention.
"Alright, guys. The rescue mission is successfully completed without any casualties. Now we can move back to the base."
He turned to look at Felix and as most of them became confused, he requested the boy with a smile.
"Felix, can I ask you to guide the way back to the base?"
His request made the ones who were trapped in the tunnel confused, wondering why their Rank 3 group leader was asking a Rank 1 boy for help.
"Oh sure. I can do that.", Felix nodded as he opened up the map skill to check their position and the way back to their base.
His eyes which were looking at the map screen suddenly widened in surprise, as a happy grin emerged on his face for a few seconds before turning serious.
"Sir Victor, it's goo- I mean its bad news!", his loud exclaim made Victor and others frown in worry.
"What is it, Felix? Are there still some people of the enemy guilds remaining?", Evan asked curiously as he glanced around.
"No, it's much bet- much worse!", Felix took a deep breath as he revealed.
"There's a large number of monsters gathering above us! They're going to fall inside the hole I made earlier and attack us from the other side of the ice wall in a few seconds now!"
He pointed at the ice wall behind them as everyone turned silent, making them hear the low growling sounds of the monsters which were falling inside the hole.
Victor turned serious as he asked with his narrowed eyes, thinking they may have a chance to fight against the monsters with the same strategy as before.
"Can you find how many monsters are there? We'll have to engage them in combat if we want to return back to the base the same way."
Under everyone's hopeful eyes, Felix returned his gaze to the map as he gulped in greed and fear.
"F-Fighting them sounds cool.... but I think there's.... more than five hundred of them..."
At his words, everyone turned pale as they had just finished a battle against the enemy guilds and weren't ready to face yet another fight with the monsters.
Victor was decisive as he turned his back to the ice wall and pointed at the other way.
"That's it. We'll have to run then. Everyone, get ready to run as fast as you can. We can't let the monsters catch up to us!"
He turned to Felix as he requested with a sigh.
"Felix, I won't force you but I hope you can find another way back to the base in that direction..."
Feeling hopeless yet having a few thoughts to face the monsters for more skill points, Felix forced down his greed and nodded.
"Y-Yeah... I'll try."
Victor smiled wryly at him as he looked at everyone who had gotten ready to flee, while the ice wall behind him was starting to crack into pieces as a few monsters silhouettes could be seen in the ice wall's hole.
"Alright, guys. Let's run!"
And then they started running without looking back, where a swarm of monsters exploded the ice wall betweem them and set their eyes on them.
"KRIEIEEHKKKHH!!!!"
