Chapter 19: The Cost of War
The apartment was very quiet. Evelyn sat on the couch and looked at the map of the city spread out across the coffee table. Her fingers hovered over the marked locations - markets, shops and safe houses - most of which had not benefited from the Iron Claw's abuse.
, she broke the silence.
Adam, sitting next to her, did not look up from the system interface. "That's it. They're trying to box us in, let us down."
Evelyn Sighed, leaning back. "Yes, it will work."
Adam threw out some commands and displayed the data from the other world. "Not long. I'm setting up a new supply chain - from the other world for customers who don't care about Iron Claw threats."
The first one raised an eyebrow. "That seems bad, even to you."
"Everything we do is bad," Adam replied, looking at him. "But that's the victory. If we give Iron Claw what we expect, we'll be playing their game. It's time to change the rules."
The first studied him for a moment before nodding. "Okay. But it must be more than just a simple plan. If they knew about the other world, they would never stop taking it for themselves. "
"This is what we are going for," Adam said, his eyes shining with determination.
hours later
Adam entered the other world through a bright portal. The air was thick with energy, the sky shining purple above. this The kingdom always lived and the new world, and today, in a state of humming and hope.
As he approached a small, hidden post he had found on one of his previous trips, the system clicked. It was filled with resources - soul stones, magic items, and some rare skill books.
Equip valuable resources for trade. >
Adam carefully packed the goods, each a game-changer in his growing business. this The system showed another nearby dungeon, a mid-level challenge he had not yet explored.
He hesitated. "Time to buy goods or time to gamble?"
It wasn't a difficult decision. If he wanted to stay ahead of the Iron Claw, he had to be more than a safe bet.
Later that evening
The dungeon was quiet, almost morning. The stone tunnels stretched, their walls carved with electric currents. Adam moved cautiously as his system scanned for threats.
The first few encounters were simple - low-level creatures that would quickly descend into his face, and occasionally use their power to draw. But inside the dungeon, the air grew colder, and the creatures grew stronger.
The Guardians burst out of the shadows, a vicious combination of fire and serpent. His bright face stared at Adam as he growled and shook his weapons.
"Yes," Adam muttered, drawing his sword.
The fight was brutal. The guard was fast. And the blows would make anyone believe in his trickery. He used Dimensional Shift to dodge lunges and deliver quick, accurate blows.
After a while this fell, dissolving into soft dust. Adam stepped forward, breathing heavily at the sound of his system.
He grabbed the luminous orb he had left behind, pulsing with the strength of his hand.
He said, "It is done."
