Chapter 138: Chapter 93.2: The Forbidden Forest – Unicorns and Visitors
Still, Dumbledore underestimated the curse on the ring.
The elderly wizard had been locked in this battle for an unknown amount of time, his face pale, his strength clearly at its limits.
Chu Yang clapped his hands, causing the wooden floor beneath him to creak. A vibrant green vine burst through the cracks, slowly extending toward the Gaunt ring.
The vine coiled around the ring several times, completely sealing it.
Chu Yang then reinforced the seal with an additional layer of binding spells.
Once this was done, Dumbledore gasped sharply, his eyes gradually opening.
"How did you end up here?" Dumbledore asked, surprised.
"Hermione and the others told me about the Horcruxes, so I thought I'd come take a look," Chu Yang replied, extending a hand to help Dumbledore to his feet.
"Thank you," Dumbledore said as he stood shakily. "The ring has more than just a curse; it's also protected by a powerful enchantment. Anyone attempting to dispel the curse will be counterattacked.
"His meticulousness caught me off guard."
"Oh, by the way," Dumbledore continued, "Hermione and the others shouldn't know the location of the Horcrux. How did you figure out there was one here?"
"Hermione told me about what was in the books, and I deduced the rest myself," Chu Yang answered.
"Most of the time, my worry isn't that students are foolish but that they're too clever," Dumbledore said with a wry smile. "Especially you."
"And now?" Chu Yang asked in return.
Dumbledore laughed heartily. "I must commend your courage and intellect, Mr. Chu Yang."
Chu Yang chuckled along with him.
After a moment, Dumbledore said, "I don't have the energy to cast spells now. You'll have to take me out of here with Apparition."
Chu Yang retrieved his wand.
"At your service, Headmaster Dumbledore."
The surroundings began to distort once again. The next moment, the two appeared beside a small hut in the Forbidden Forest.
"I must say, your Apparition skills are already at a masterful level," Dumbledore remarked in admiration.
"Still far from your level," Chu Yang replied, setting up a folding chair beside Dumbledore.
Dumbledore didn't sit immediately. Instead, he looked around, his eyes filled with amazement.
Not far away, several unicorns roamed leisurely.
He knew Chu Yang was favored by unicorns, but this was beyond what he expected.
"Headmaster Dumbledore?"
Firenze looked at the sudden appearance of Dumbledore and Chu Yang, his face full of astonishment.
"Mr. Firenze, good evening," Dumbledore greeted, his surprise gradually fading into a warm smile.
Seeing this, he was certain Harry was safe here.
Victory in this war seemed all but assured.
Now, only one question remained:
How to deal with the fragment of Voldemort's soul inside Harry...
Dumbledore's brow furrowed deeply.
"Headmaster Dumbledore, is there anything I can assist with?" Firenze asked.
"A minor issue," Dumbledore replied, shaking his head.
"Firenze, could you patrol the surroundings?" Chu Yang suddenly suggested.
Firenze nodded without hesitation and quickly leaped away from the hut.
After Firenze left, Chu Yang turned to Dumbledore. "If you have any concerns, feel free to share them with me. As Hogwarts' brightest student, it's my duty to help."
Dumbledore pondered for a long time before finally speaking. "To eliminate Voldemort, we must destroy all the Horcruxes. But Harry...he is one of Voldemort's Horcruxes."
Chu Yang feigned a look of shock before falling silent. After a while, he asked, "May I know the full story?"
Dumbledore recounted everything, from Tom Riddle's transformation into Voldemort to the curse's backlash splitting his soul and lodging a fragment in Harry.
"So, according to you, Harry is at most a pseudo-Horcrux because the process wasn't carried out according to the proper Horcrux-creation rituals. It was an accident."
"I believe so too, but the issue is that even if Harry is a pseudo-Horcrux, we'd still need the Killing Curse to destroy the soul fragment inside him."
"We could try using the method for creating Horcruxes to split Harry's soul, modifying the spell slightly."
Dumbledore's eyes lit up at this, and he looked at Chu Yang with growing excitement.
Theoretically, it was entirely feasible.
The soul fragment in Harry's body was unstable. Separating it from him would be much easier than splitting an intact soul.
Moreover, the fragment resided in Harry's body rather than being fully fused with his own soul.
With appropriate modifications to the spell, targeting the physical body rather than the soul, Harry's own soul could remain unaffected.
Relieved, Dumbledore's usual confidence returned, sweeping away his previous worries.
"You never cease to amaze me," Dumbledore said with a smile.
"It's just a small insight," Chu Yang replied humbly. "The real challenge lies in modifying the spell, something only you can do."
Dumbledore exhaled deeply. "Now, we just need a tool capable of destroying Horcruxes, and Harry's issue will be resolved."
Every Horcrux was protected by powerful enchantments, making them difficult to destroy through conventional means.
In later events, the sword of Gryffindor absorbed basilisk venom when Harry killed the basilisk, gaining the ability to destroy Horcruxes.
The basilisk was still hiding in Hogwarts' girls' bathroom. Taking it down now would be perfect.
As Chu Yang and Dumbledore discussed spell modifications, a noise came from Ron's tent.
While Dumbledore didn't notice, Chu Yang caught the faint sound.
"Squeak...squeak..."
It was the sound of a rodent.
Chu Yang's lips curled slightly. Turning, he waved his wand, sending magic shooting out like lightning. The spell struck the edge of the tent.
A rat scurrying out of Ron's tent was hit, collapsing unconscious on the ground.
"Oh!"
Dumbledore was startled.
The rat was none other than Peter Pettigrew, who had been hiding in the Weasley household.
Back then, it was he who betrayed his friend James Potter, revealing the whereabouts of the Potter family to Voldemort, which led to Voldemort killing Harry's parents.
Afterward, Peter Pettigrew framed Sirius Black for the crime and faked his own death.
Sirius Black ended up in Azkaban because of him.
During this time, Chu Yang had chosen to leave Pettigrew alone, unwilling to disrupt the storyline unnecessarily and complicate matters further.
Moreover, Pettigrew had been behaving himself, doing nothing out of line.
But now, Chu Yang couldn't allow him to cause trouble at such a critical moment.
"If you keep playing dead on the ground, my next spell will be the Killing Curse!" Chu Yang said coldly.
The rat suddenly sprang up and frantically dashed deeper into the Forbidden Forest. In the next instant, a pristine white figure appeared, blocking his path.
A unicorn raised its hoof and sent the rat flying with a powerful kick.
In mid-air, Peter Pettigrew reverted to his human form and landed heavily at Chu Yang's feet.
"It's you?!"
Dumbledore recognized Peter Pettigrew.
"Greetings, great Headmaster Dumbledore," Peter murmured, too frightened to raise his head, groveling on the ground.
A man who should have been dead was still alive...
Sirius had not killed him back then!
Dumbledore's mind raced, and after a moment, one conclusion remained.
"You were the Potters' Secret Keeper, weren't you?"
Dumbledore's anger erupted, his silver-white hair swirling around him like a storm. "Tell me the truth, Peter!"
Peter Pettigrew trembled uncontrollably.
An enraged Dumbledore radiated a presence no less intimidating than Voldemort's.
Chu Yang stepped closer and softly said, "I'm quite skilled in the three Unforgivable Curses. Which one do you fancy?"
Peter's face turned pale as he fearfully confessed everything about what had happened back then.
Dumbledore was livid.
Peter Pettigrew cowered, shaking like a leaf.
Chu Yang then said, "The most important thing now is to get Sirius Black out of Azkaban."
The anger in Dumbledore's expression gradually softened as he nodded. "You're right. Punishment isn't mine to deliver; Azkaban is where he belongs."
Peter's face turned ashen, his eyes filled with despair.
For a coward like him, the Dementors were no less terrifying than Voldemort.
The next day, Peter Pettigrew was escorted away by Dumbledore and Hagrid. They planned to go to the Ministry of Magic to reveal the truth and use Pettigrew's testimony to secure Sirius Black's release from Azkaban.
