Silver Superman (Marvel)

Chapter 10: CH 10

Super Ability?

Ethan raised an eyebrow, processing Gwen's words.

So… she got superpowers and now she doesn't know what to do?

But how had Gwen gained those powers?

Wait a minute…

Suddenly, a memory surfaced.

In another universe, it wasn't Peter Parker who got bitten by the radioactive spider—it was Gwen Stacy.

In that world, Gwen became her universe's Spider-Woman, also known as Ghost-Spider because of her sleek black-and-white suit and agile fighting style.

And Peter Parker? Tragically, he transformed into the Lizard, becoming one of her greatest foes.

Could the Gwen standing in front of me… be Ghost-Spider?

Ethan's mind raced as the pieces began to fall into place.

Wait… yesterday, she fainted at the manor's gate—the exact time I activated the superpower-suppressing magnetic field.

Could it be that… the field suppressed her newly awakened spider abilities?

"Gwen, did you feel uncomfortable when you came into my manor yesterday?" Ethan asked, testing his theory.

Gwen's eyes widened slightly.

"Yeah… I felt this weird sense of pressure. Like something was holding me down."

Bingo.

Opening his system interface, Ethan quickly accessed the magnetic field settings. A dialog box popped up:

[Would you like to exempt Gwen Stacy from the effects of the magnetic suppression field?]

[YES] [NO]

Without hesitation, Ethan selected YES.

[Exemption granted. Gwen Stacy will no longer be affected by the magnetic suppression field.]

At that exact moment, Gwen gasped softly.

"Whoa…!"

She stood up, stretching her arms as energy seemed to surge back into her body.

"It's like… like something heavy was lifted off me. I feel amazing!"

Watching her reaction, Ethan was now certain of the truth:

Gwen Stacy is Ghost-Spider.

And she'd only just awakened her powers—hence why the suppression field had affected her so strongly.

So I accidentally picked up a Spider-Woman yesterday…

Ethan chuckled to himself.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

"Ethan, you're incredible! I don't know what you did, but… wow, I feel so much better now!"

As soon as the words left her mouth, Gwen's face flushed a deep red.

"Oh my God—that sounded so wrong…!"

Embarrassed, she quickly sat down, cheeks burning as she stared at her hands.

Ethan smothered a laugh.

She's adorable when she's flustered.

"Well, now that you're feeling better, let's get back to the problem your 'friend' is having," Ethan said with a knowing smile, deliberately emphasizing the word friend.

Gwen nodded quickly, her focus returning.

"Right! So… my friend's confused about what to do now that she has these powers. She's afraid they might end up hurting her—or the people around her."

Ethan leaned back in his chair, considering her words.

How do I explain this in a way that'll actually help her?

While he knew Spider-Man's story pretty well, he wasn't as familiar with Ghost-Spider's journey.

But maybe he didn't need to be. Sometimes, all someone needed was a shift in perspective.

His gaze fell on the glass of water sitting on the table next to them.

That'll work.

"Gwen, if I were you, I'd show your friend this glass of water."

"…Water?" Gwen blinked, confused.

"Yeah. Tell her the answer she's looking for is right there, in that glass."

Gwen stared at the glass, her brow furrowed in concentration.

"I… don't get it," she admitted, looking up at Ethan.

"Think about it," Ethan replied with a mysterious smile.

"The answer's right there. She just needs to figure out what it means."

For a moment, Ethan felt like one of those cryptic fortune tellers who gave vague advice and then disappeared before anyone could ask questions.

"…Have you figured it out?"

Gwen tilted her head, still puzzled.

What does a glass of water have to do with superpowers?

But the warm sunlight, combined with the gentle breeze and the faint hum of the city below, was making her feel drowsy.

Her eyes began to droop, and before she knew it, her breathing had slowed into the steady rhythm of sleep.

Ethan glanced over, raising an eyebrow as he noticed Gwen fast asleep in the recliner.

…Well, I didn't expect the water to have that effect.

Chuckling softly, he leaned back, closing his eyes as he let the sun warm his face.

After about twenty minutes, Ethan stretched and stood up.

"Alright… time to get some writing done."

Returning to his study, he settled in at his desk, fingers flying over the keyboard as he continued his latest manuscript.

An hour later, he hit SEND, submitting the finished chapters to his editor.

Almost immediately, his phone buzzed.

Incoming Call: Publisher

Ethan picked up.

"Good morning, this is Ethan. What can I do for you?"

"Good morning, Mr. Ethan! I hope I'm not interrupting?" asked the editor's enthusiastic voice.

"Not at all. What's up?"

"Well, you mentioned before that you were interested in adapting your works into films. I've been reaching out to some production companies, and one of them responded—they're very interested in collaborating with you!"

Ethan sat up straighter, intrigued.

"Oh? Which studio?"

"Universal Pictures!"

Ethan paused, eyes widening slightly.

Universal, huh?

This could be the start of something big.

"Sounds promising. When do they want to meet?"

"They're flexible. If you'd like, they can come to your house, but—"

"Ah, no thanks. I'd rather not have strangers showing up at my place," Ethan replied quickly.

"Just send me their address and contact info. I'll reach out and set up a meeting myself."

"Of course! I'll send it over right away."

A minute after the call ended, Ethan received a message.

Universal Pictures—Contact Information

Ethan leaned back, tapping his fingers thoughtfully against the armrest.

Looks like it's time to take my public-domain domination to the next level…

Glancing out the window, he spotted Gwen still napping peacefully on the rooftop.

And as for you, Ghost-Spider… I think your story's just beginning.
