Vol 5. Chapter 93: Dream of Me
Winter break at St. Heath's Academy had officially begun.
"The workaholic and the daughter-obsessed man of the Melkvey family have rediscovered their 'first love.'"
That is to say—
The queen worked during the day and let herself be "admired" at night, while the rookie spent his days with the kids and his nights... possibly creating more.
However, their current "honeymoon phase" was a bit different from their early days together.
Rosvisser, following Leon's advice, no longer worked late into the night and often allowed herself to be "admired" in the evenings. Leon, on the other hand, ★ 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 ★ no longer handled every aspect of parenting himself. Their daughters were growing up and didn't need constant supervision anymore.
Even their youngest, Muse, could be entrusted to her older sisters.
Observing this, Leon—ever the strategist—concluded:
"As long as we keep having kids, we'll never have to parent them ourselves! By the time one is born, the older ones are already grown. Dragon genes for the win!"
Though he joked about it, there were no plans to expand the family for now. Their hands were full with the current children, and they both understood the uncertain state of the world.
The Melkveys wanted their children to grow up in a carefree and peaceful environment. For now, Muse would remain the youngest member of the family.
Hefei, the honorary sibling entrusted to them by Konstantin, was a special case. Though she had integrated well into their family, she often thought about her late father, who had left her life just as he was learning to be a parent.
Whenever Hefei fell into these melancholic moods, the entire Melkvey family rallied around her.
Noa would offer, "Come train with me—long runs, sparring, anything to keep your mind busy. That's how I got through missing Teacher Mevis."
Moon countered, "No, no, no! That won't work. Hefei just needs to eat, sleep, and eat some more! Trust me, food cures everything."
Aurora rolled her eyes. "Stop treating her like a pig. Hefei, listen to me instead. Spend the morning climbing Milan's windows, the afternoon helping Anna in the kitchen, and the evening stargazing with Sherry. You'll forget everything!"
Muse, however, spoke softly. "None of that will work. Let her sit with me and listen to some music. Trust me, I know what it's like to grow up in a family like ours."
Indeed, Muse's music had a way of calming Hefei's troubled heart. It seemed they were a natural match, each finding comfort in the other.
Watching their children bond so well brought Leon and Rosvisser immense pride.
"We've done right by Konstantin," Leon remarked one snowy day as he stood under a cedar tree, watching the children play in the snow.
Rosvisser, wrapped in a thick silver cloak, stood beside him. Her silver hair danced in the wind, making her look like a winter spirit.
She gazed at the scene and said softly, "Time flies. It feels like Hefei has completely become part of the family."
Leon squinted, his expression turning serious.
"Time really does fly..."
Rosvisser glanced at him, her eyes narrowing. "What are you thinking about? Why the somber expression?"
"Time flies," he repeated. "And Noa and Moon are about to grow out of their cute loli phase into full-blown teenagers!"
Rosvisser:==
"You're ridiculous."
It was true that fire dragons matured much faster than human children. By the age of eight, they were already entering adolescence.
Still, despite their growth, each daughter retained her unique charm. And if the older two were maturing, Leon could still enjoy the playful youth of Aurora and Muse for years to come.
The couple's conversation soon turned serious.
"You've been having that dream again, haven't you?" Rosvisser asked.
Leon hesitated before nodding.
This version is sourced from MV3L3MPYR.
"Yes, and it's been happening more often."
Since allowing the children some time off, Leon had been plagued by a recurring nightmare.
In his dream, the continent of Sal was shrouded in darkness. Entire races were wiped out, leaving behind a desolate wasteland.
At the heart of it all was a colossal white dragon, mortally wounded atop an icy mountain. Its massive wings drooped lifelessly down the slopes, and rivers of its blood flooded the land below, covering the ground littered with countless dragon corpses and the remains of other races.
Leon stood amidst the carnage, surrounded by whispers of blame from the souls of the dead.
Before the despair could consume him, a shadow enveloped the sky, crushing him with its suffocating presence.
Just as the world seemed ready to collapse into ruin, Leon would wake in a cold sweat.
After several iterations of this dream, Rosvisser had suggested consulting the elders about its meaning.
Leon had taken Hefei with him to seek their insight.
The conversation had been cryptic:
Leon: "I dreamed of a white dragon dying on an icy mountain."
Elder: "Hmm..."
Leon: "It looked like it had given everything it had and still couldn't save anyone."
Elder: "Hmm..."
Leon: "And it led the dragons, only to be defeated by an overwhelmingly powerful enemy."
Elder: "Hmm..."
Leon: "Can you stop humming and tell me who the white dragon is?"
Elder: "It's me."
Leon: "..."
Despite the elder's revelation, the events of the dream did not align with any known history. The scenes of icy mountains, fallen dragons, and collapsing skies had no precedent.
"This is no ordinary nightmare," the elder had concluded.
It could be a sign of an awakening power—or a warning of an impending catastrophe. Whatever it was, Leon felt certain that the shadow he saw in his dreams would soon disrupt their peace.
Rosvisser observed her husband's profile. His expression was as strong and resolute as ever, but the weight of his thoughts was evident.
She stepped closer, her boots crunching softly in the snow. Standing on her toes, she pressed a gentle kiss to his lips.
"There. Now tonight, you'll dream of me."
