The research center was exceptionally quiet. Occasionally, researchers in white lab coats passed by, offering Roy gentle smiles when they noticed the stranger in their midst.
This type of facility typically maintained strict security outside while being more relaxed inside. The entrance was heavily guarded, but once inside, there weren't as many restrictions. Only those with official permission were allowed entry.
After Ivy escorted Roy to the relics exhibition area, she instructed, "Feel free to look around, but if you want to touch anything, you must inform me first. Otherwise, the alarm will be triggered."
Roy nodded to show he understood and began exploring the exhibition area.
Each displayed relic had a label with descriptions provided by the researchers.
As he looked around, Roy recognized many familiar items.
[Sand of the Earth]
Introduction: This sand has absorbed the energy of the earth and has a delicate texture. When used by Ground-type Pokémon, it enhances their affinity with Ground-type energy and increases the power of Ground-type moves.
This item wasn't unique to the Alola spiritual domain; it had been excavated from many spiritual domains.
Roy pondered for a moment and confirmed that this was the [Soft Sand] from the Pokémon world, though the researchers had renamed it.
He also saw items such as [Dragon Fang], [Shell Bell], and [Spell Tag], though they had different names. For other Trainers, selecting any suitable item here could significantly help their Pokémon, making this visit worthwhile.
In the outside world, purchasing such items would require not only hundreds of millions in funds but also the right connections. Even with money, they might be unobtainable.
For Roy, however, these magical items could be bought with points in the system mall, so choosing them would be wasteful...
Walking to the end of the exhibition area, Roy still hadn't found anything that truly excited him.
"Huh?"
Roy suddenly noticed another booth opposite the exhibition area, piled with various miscellaneous items.
"What are those?"
"Those are items deemed to have no research value," Ivy explained with a smile. "Not everything excavated from ruins is useful. Some are just everyday items from other world civilizations, like broken televisions, children's toys, decorative items, and so on. That world was destroyed for some reason, but their civilization was very similar to our Earth."
It was probably destroyed by a few powerful legendary Pokémon... Roy thought to himself.
"May I take a look?"
"Of course," Ivy replied. "In a few days, those items will be transferred to the National Museum where the general public can view them. They're not particularly important."
Roy walked over and glanced around, confirming what Ivy had said—they were indeed everyday items: a Pidgeot-shaped alarm clock, tattered Meowth dolls, and similar objects.
Everyday items from other world civilizations were quite popular on Earth...
After the merging of spiritual domains, the excavated ruins were at least a hundred years old. This meant the human civilization in that Pokémon world had been extinct for a century before merging with Earth.
Consequently, Pokémon born in the spiritual domain had never encountered humans.
Well-preserved household items could fetch high prices in the market as antique luxuries.
It was the same principle that made chamber pots from ancient dynasties valuable antiques—time and scarcity gave these ordinary items significant value.
Just as Roy was about to leave disappointed, planning to randomly select a item to take back, something caught his eye that made him freeze, nearly shouting in excitement.
It was a diamond-shaped stone made of pink crystal.
Inside the crystal was an engraved pattern resembling a cat's ear.
"May I touch this?" Roy asked, trying to sound casual.
"Sure, you can touch anything here—there's no alarm," Ivy laughed.
Only then did Roy pick up the crystal, examining it carefully to ensure he wasn't mistaken.
A Z-Crystal.
To be precise, this was the Psychium Z for Psychic-type moves.
In the system mall, this item cost 50 million points.
Ivy also looked at the stone and commented, "This resembles the glass marbles we played with as children. It's probably a child's toy from another civilization."
Roy didn't know how to respond. From an outsider's perspective, Ivy's assessment seemed reasonable.
Incredible.
The officials had always considered Z-Crystals as mere household items?
It seemed the National Museum might be overlooking many valuable artifacts...
Could he perhaps acquire a Key Stone worth up to 100 million points for nothing?
Roy asked hopefully, "Ivy, you're knowledgeable—have you ever seen a colorful stone with a leaf-like pattern in the middle?"
Ivy thought for a moment, then smiled. "You mean the Life Stone, right?"
"Life Stone?"
Hearing such an official name, Roy's hopes fell, realizing he probably wouldn't get it for nothing.
As expected.
Ivy explained, "The Life Stone matches exactly what you described. After scanning it with our equipment, we discovered it contains an enormous amount of life energy. If harnessed properly, it would be an incredibly powerful resource. The Life Stone is classified as special-grade research material, only accessible in major national laboratories."
She then asked, "How did you know about the Life Stone?"
"Oh," Roy replied casually, hiding his disappointment. "I saw similar photos in the Illuminati logs."
Ivy looked startled, then regretful. "Did that diary actually record so many Illuminati secrets? It's a shame it was burned."
No, if it hadn't been burned, the Illuminati wouldn't have taken the blame for me, Roy thought.
He played with the Z-Crystal, examining it carefully.
Unlike the Key Stone, which was easily recognizable, the Z-Crystal truly resembled a child's toy. Roy couldn't detect any energy from it using his Aura powers.
Z-Moves... what's the principle behind them? he wondered.
Aloud, he asked, "Ivy, could I take this?"
"Huh? You want this?"
Ivy was puzzled. After rejecting so many items, he chose this one?
Then her expression changed to a teasing smile. "Junior, if you want to give something to your girlfriend, a doll would be better than these little stones. The dolls excavated from the ruins, if intact and undamaged, can sell for hundreds of thousands..."
"?"
Roy was momentarily confused before realizing that the "girlfriend" Ivy mentioned was Serena, as the two women were close friends.
Since he was already misunderstood, Roy decided to play along. "I think she'd like this... but a doll sounds nice too. Do you have any recommendations?"
He could pick a doll and give it to Serena later to maintain the pretense.
"Alright, leave it to me. I'll let you choose a doll to take back—it's my personal gift, separate from the official reward. You can still select another magical item later."
Ivy smiled happily. Although focused on developing her Trainer skills with no interest in dating herself, she enjoyed encouraging romance among her juniors.
She was the type who enjoyed watching others' relationships blossom.
Taking Roy to another booth in the corner, Ivy said, "I remember there are several well-preserved dolls here. Some wealthy businessmen have already shown interest and are placing bids."
Roy looked over and saw life-sized dolls of Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Alolan Vulpix...
He wasn't particularly fond of dolls and was about to choose the Alolan Vulpix when something else caught his attention.
In the corner sat a doll that somewhat resembled a Pikachu, quietly waiting.
The craftsmanship was rather crude.
Though recognizable as a Pikachu, the painting style was poor, with facial features drawn using just a few thick lines.
The entire doll appeared to be made of canvas...
Roy was speechless for a moment, then squatted down to examine it more closely.
The Pikachu doll remained motionless, seemingly just an inanimate object.
"Student, you're not actually interested in this doll, are you?"
Ivy looked perplexed, surprised by Roy's unusual taste.
She had no idea that Roy was now questioning the researchers' competence.
It was one thing to mistake a Z-Crystal for a worthless trinket...
But how could they classify a living Pokémon as a doll?
Yes.
The Pikachu doll before him was a Pokémon that Roy knew well.
Mimikyu.
A Ghost-type Pokémon wearing a crudely drawn Pikachu disguise.
Its true form beneath the disguise remained unknown. Legends said that anyone who saw Mimikyu's real body would be cursed with strange diseases and misfortune—some were even frightened to death.
However, after continued examination with his Aura powers, Roy had to admit he might have misjudged the researchers.
Even his perception-focused Aura powers couldn't penetrate Mimikyu's disguise...
Roy suddenly remembered Mimikyu's signature Ability—
Disguise.
In the games, this Ability functioned similarly to the 'Substitute' move, allowing Mimikyu to block one attack.
In reality, Disguise was clearly an extremely effective ability for concealment.
What stood before him might just be Mimikyu's outer disguise—Roy speculated that its real body was probably hiding in the shadow of the costume.
To verify his theory, Roy smiled suddenly.
"Yes, Ivy."
"I really like this doll. I think it's adorable."
The moment he spoke those words, Roy's Aura vision clearly detected a brief flicker of joy emerging from the shadow of the Pikachu doll.
