Chapter 1152: Chapter 1152: The Life of Jeanne and Laeticia
Compared to Fiore, who was always moving forward, Jeanne's life was much more peaceful.
There were no scheming magi, no political plots, and no constant efforts to change oneself. Instead, there was a long-lost sense of peace and warmth, as well as something she had never experienced before: the life of a student.
Every day, she would wake up early, pray with her classmates, have breakfast, and attend classes—well, Jeanne admitted that she couldn't understand most of the lectures, but she still listened attentively.
In the afternoon, after a short nap, her schedule varied—sometimes she studied, and other times there were extracurricular activities.
In the evenings, she had free time, which she could spend strolling around the school or nearby.
Of course, homework was inevitable—this was the part of Jeanne's day that caused her the most anguish.
While Laeticia could finish her homework with ease, Jeanne couldn't even understand the questions.
They were both humans, so why was the gap so large?
This was far more painful than leading soldiers into battle.
"Lord, this must be a test from You."
The young saint believed this firmly, just as she believed that her flag with a spear tip was a divine revelation for smiting enemies.
But aside from this one struggle, Jeanne was quite content with her life.
She had an education, good classmates and friends, and a warm, happy home.
Although Laeticia was the one in control and she was merely an observer, the deep similarity of their souls allowed them to communicate on a spiritual level.
Occasionally, they would even switch places, allowing Jeanne to truly experience modern, ordinary life.
There were some extraordinary aspects to her life, though. After the significant events they had gone through, Laeticia had formed a bond with Fiore and others, and even after returning to normal life, that connection hadn't been severed.
Times had changed, and modern conveniences were far beyond anything Jeanne had experienced in the Middle Ages. Back then, transportation was difficult and communication was even harder. The distance between France and Romania had once been akin to a permanent separation.
But now, it was different. A phone call, an email, or even chatting via messaging apps was possible. If they wanted to meet, it was just a day's journey away.
Jeanne marveled at the conveniences of the modern world and continued to maintain the bonds formed in her second life.
Several of those friends had secretly visited them, causing quite a few funny incidents.
Reika had come with Jack, and as soon as Jack opened her mouth—well, everyone could guess what happened. Even though they all knew they weren't truly mother and daughter, the shock was inevitable.
Mordred had also visited, coming alone. When Kairi showed up at the school gates, well, just imagine the scene.
Of course, Mordred didn't have it easy either.
With a face identical to Laeticia's, she wandered around the church school in her delinquent outfit. She was immediately caught by the etiquette teacher, who gave her a thorough lecture and even forced Mordred to change into a nun's habit. Laeticia also got scolded, being told that as an apprentice nun, she needed to keep herself pure and watch over her family's behavior—clearly, Mordred had been mistaken for Laeticia's sister.
Mordred nearly lost her mind. She couldn't argue back, and she couldn't get angry at ordinary people—she couldn't very well draw her sword! All she could do was swear that she would never come to this wretched place again.
To soothe her, Laeticia brought her home, where her parents warmly welcomed Mordred, almost adopting her as a goddaughter.
Gordes also visited during the school's vacation, bringing his son with him. Apparently, Darnic had said that to correct his son's bad character, some special methods were needed, and perhaps the saint could help.
As a result, Gordes' son stayed on the farm for a month, doing farm work every day. If he didn't work, he didn't eat, and he couldn't escape or win a fight. This left him with an indelible psychological scar—after all, Jeanne had Magic Power: EX and Strength: B. If you could beat her, you'd be the protagonist of this world. By the time he went home, he had lost thirty pounds, transforming from a chubby boy into a handsome young man. No wonder people always said every fat person had hidden potential.
And so the days passed, with Laeticia gradually maturing from a young girl into a young woman.
She graduated from the church school. Originally, she would have gone straight to a nearby convent to become a nun. But Fiore's invitation disrupted her plans: "Come to Romania. It's more suitable for you here, and we need your help."
This one sentence stirred something inside the young woman's heart.
Though she had returned to an ordinary life, she was no longer the person she once was. She didn't want to drift aimlessly anymore or live a numb existence.
Besides, she had a wish. She wanted to know the whereabouts of that person who hadn't died in battle but had left the world in another way.
Jeanne understood this feeling. After all, she felt the same.
And Romania was the place most likely to hold the answers. Even though the Magic User who could traverse parallel worlds had not appeared again, they decided to wait.
What was this feeling they clung to?
Friendship? Respect? Admiration? Love?
Neither of these inexperienced women knew for sure who was affecting whom, nor could they clearly explain it.
They only knew that they carried this feeling in their hearts, and they didn't dislike it, just as the others who had been helped by him felt the same.
Then, hope appeared.
In Millennia Castle, Fiore and Reika presented them with a mysterious crystal.
The crystal contained a message, showing them another way to traverse parallel worlds and revealing a dangerous yet opportunistic world—a place that could be either heaven or hell.
This was why Fiore and the others had extended their invitation. Jeanne was the most suitable person for exploration, as her unique skill, Revelation, could maximize their chances of avoiding danger.
Without hesitation, Jeanne and Laeticia entered the unknown world together.
The exploration went smoothly, and the group gradually grew accustomed to this new world. They learned that the world operated on a foundation of spiritual particles and that those entering it did so as souls rather than physical bodies. Servants, in particular, would be strengthened in this spiritual particle world.
Since someone needed to care for the soulless bodies and manage Yggdmillennia's affairs, only two people could enter at a time. Jeanne was the combat specialist, while the other three took turns—because it was their souls entering, Laeticia and Jeanne would separate once inside.
They had considered asking other Servants for help, but they weren't in Trifas, nor did they want to trouble those who had already started their second lives with something so uncertain.
Perhaps blessed by the Lord, under the guidance of Jeanne's Revelation, they successfully passed through the seven layers of the spiritual particle world and reached the core of Mooncell, where they found a way to cross parallel worlds.
However, even with the assistance of Mooncell, a technology far beyond human civilization, crossing world lines was no easy feat.
There were great risks involved in having a human soul traverse world lines, as no world could host two identical souls at the same time.
So, what should they choose? Should they risk it all, or give up?
