Shinigami: Medicine Can't Save The Soul Reaper Society

Chapter 177: Chapter 178: Motivational Speech

Makoto's gaze swept across the audience, briefly pausing on Gin, whose expression seemed to waver slightly, before continuing his survey of the room.

Inwardly, Makoto was frantically drafting various responses.

The situation had come too abruptly, completely catching him off guard without any chance for prior preparation.

Makoto even suspected that Unohana had deliberately withheld relevant documents and bypassed him to approve this event. Perhaps beyond her subtle penchant for dark humor, she wanted to see how he would respond under these circumstances.

After all, it's often in impromptu moments that one's true thoughts and character are most clearly revealed.

Fortunately, his experience managing the division in recent times had ensured that he wouldn't falter in front of the juniors. His expression remained as gentle and composed as ever.

Inspirational speech? Motivational fluff? Humble modesty? Or perhaps a clever advertisement for the Fourth Division?

Four distinct directions swirled in Makoto's mind.

Within mere moments, he made his decision.

With many Captain, Vice-Captain, and seated officer positions still vacant in the Gotei 13, this was undoubtedly an opportune moment to solidify his reputation and extend his influence.

Although Makoto wasn't particularly interested in becoming a Captain-level Shinigami, he did harbor ambitions to reach a level of influence capable of shaping the policies and direction of multiple divisions.

"Perhaps this is the perfect moment to craft a new persona…"

Adjusting his glasses, Makoto offered a warm smile that seemed flawless, radiating an aura as gentle as a spring breeze across the venue. Then, he began speaking:

"A year ago, I stood among the audience, listening to the guidance of my senior classmates, mentors, and leaders, eagerly anticipating the day I could truly become part of the future of the Gotei 13."

"Today, a year later, I stand before you, gazing upon the rising stars among you, my juniors, filled with emotion and hope…"

"In you, I see the embodiment of the Gotei 13's spirit, beliefs, and legacy passed down through generations. The future rests upon your shoulders, and I firmly believe you will carry forward a new era."

"You are like waves surging forward, one after another, crashing towards the sacred grounds of the Seireitei, bringing vitality and renewal to its halls…"

In the face of Makoto's gentle yet stirring voice, the graduates below felt a surge of energy. A sense of mission, rooted in the thousand-year legacy of the Gotei 13, descended upon them.

To them, Makoto's figure seemed to emit a faint, radiant light…

This senior didn't boast about his achievements or subtly flaunt his position. Instead, he spoke softly of his hopes for them.

It was as though he, a wave that had carved a path ahead, looked back, entrusting the following waves to carry forward his will and ideals.

Of course, these graduates, who had yet to experience the harsh realities of the Seireitei, noble families, or Hollows, had no idea that most waves exist merely to elevate the ones before them, only to dissipate powerlessly into foam.

Makoto had no intention of breaking the illusion by speaking blunt truths, such as the fact that not every "next wave" qualifies to rise as high as he had—ascending to Vice-Captain within just a year.

Given the current system of the Soul Society, while it was true that becoming a Shinigami offered little hope for the residents of Rukongai, it was still the sole upward path, painstakingly established by Captain-Commander Yamamoto.

So rather than let these graduates lose hope after their first taste of hardship, it was better to offer them encouragement—to push them to endure just a little longer.

Especially now, with so many seats vacant in the Gotei 13, holding on might just allow some of them to escape the lowest ranks.

With that, Makoto shifted his tone, speaking humbly and gently:

"Actually, I was once a rather ordinary person myself, with no remarkable talent in Zanjutsu, Hakuda, Hohō, or Kidō. The only area where I had any aptitude was Kaidō (Healing Arts)."

Upon hearing this, the graduates didn't seem particularly affected, but the Gotei 13 representatives present felt their teeth clench.

"Seriously…?"

This so-called "slight aptitude" was the genius in Kaidō whom Captain Unohana had praised numerous times. Within a year, he had become the cornerstone of the Fourth Division's medical practice, assuming the Vice-Captain position purely through his Kaidō and medical prowess.

And yet, Makoto continued nonchalantly, adjusting his glasses again:

"Furthermore, my personality isn't well-suited to combat or killing. My interests lean more towards saving lives, so I focused most of my energy on mastering Kaidō and medical skills."

"If I remember correctly, Kaidō is first introduced in the mid-third-year curriculum. From that point on, I devoted myself to it, practicing tirelessly for three and a half years…"

As many graduates listened intently, finding inspiration in Makoto's seemingly relatable journey, his voice paused briefly, as though recalling a deeply impactful memory.

"Later, during division assignments, my modest efforts were recognized, and I successfully joined the Fourth Division."

"Under Captain Unohana's guidance, I worked diligently, continuing to learn every day. Through steady growth, I eventually earned her trust and was appointed as a Vice-Captain."

Looking out over the audience, Makoto's gaze carried a sense of expectation as he said:

"Juniors, I'd like to share one piece of advice: dedicate as much energy as you can to improving a single area, one that aligns with your will, interests, and talents."

"I await the opportunity to fight alongside you in the Seireitei, and I especially look forward to those among you with an interest in Kaidō and medical arts joining the Fourth Division…"

"Don't worry if you feel lacking in these skills. The Fourth Division has a comprehensive training system, and should you encounter any difficulties, we can always discuss them together."

Finally, Makoto's face blossomed into a warm smile, brimming with charisma.

Among the graduates, especially the female students, many felt as though their admiration had reached an overwhelming peak.
