Chapter 170: Chapter 171: The Training of Shunko
Suddenly, Makoto sensed a shadow moving towards him at an incredible speed.
In just an instant, the shadow landed on his shoulder, lazily settling there in a relaxed posture.
Yoruichi. In her black cat form!
Makoto's mouth twitched, a sense of helplessness washing over him.
Yoruichi licked her paw nonchalantly before pressing it against Makoto's cheek, pushing his face back slightly. Speaking in a low, masculine voice, she said,
"Don't look at me like that. Just treat me as an ordinary cat."
"Lady Yoruichi, is there something you need?" Makoto asked, his tone resigned.
"I returned to Seireitei to see you for two matters," Yoruichi replied.
Hearing the seriousness in her voice, Makoto surprisingly felt more at ease. "Please, Lady Yoruichi, go ahead."
Yoruichi's golden cat eyes narrowed as she began,
"First: Keep an eye on Aizen Sosuke. He's potentially dangerous and might be the mastermind behind the Hollowfication incident."
"Of course, you don't need to investigate him directly. Just be observant, and don't draw his attention, especially since your current strength is... lacking," she added with a hint of caution.
Makoto was inwardly surprised at how quickly Urahara Kisuke and Yoruichi had locked their suspicions onto Aizen. Outwardly, however, he nodded in agreement.
For Makoto, this was actually a good thing. If he ever needed to manipulate events to pit Kisuke and Yoruichi against Aizen, it would appear far less suspicious.
Yoruichi seemed unsurprised by Makoto's compliance. To her, Makoto was undeniably a reliable and trustworthy ally.
"Second: I was initially worried about Soi Fon. I thought she might not handle the situation well and could develop extreme thoughts..."
Pausing, Yoruichi fixed her gaze on Makoto and continued,
"But it seems you've done something. Her mind have recovered quite well."
Makoto forced a chuckle. "I couldn't just stand by and do nothing. Fon is my friend, after all."
"True. You're a kind person, Makoto. With you looking after her, I'm much more at ease," Yoruichi said, her tone softening with gratitude.
"By the way," she added, "I left a scroll detailing the refined training method for Shunko near the hot springs. Give it to Fon for me. Just don't tell her it's my creation; otherwise, she might refuse to practice it."
"Shunko?!" Makoto asked in astonishment.
"Yes," Yoruichi confirmed. Even in her cat form, she instinctively licked her paw again as she explained,
"I've told you about this before. It's a combat technique that combines Hakuda and Kido, packing immense power, rivaling even Bankai."
Pausing, she continued,
"If you're interested, Makoto, you can try learning it as well. With your mastery of Kaido, you won't need to worry about damaging your spirit body too much."
"I understand," Makoto replied with a nod, refraining from false modesty.
The technique of Shunko—developed by Yoruichi herself—was undeniably valuable and highly enticing to him.
"Good. I'll leave these matters in your hands. If you need to contact me urgently, inform Oomaeda Marenoshin," Yoruichi said.
With that, she leaped gracefully from Makoto's shoulder onto a nearby rooftop.
Under the moonlight, her black cat form exuded elegance and composure, as though she belonged in a painting.
Makoto couldn't help but admit that, as a cat lover, he found Yoruichi's cat form far more pleasing to the eye than her spiritual body.
After all, who could resist a beautiful, graceful, talking cat?
If only... she wasn't Yoruichi. Makoto might have been tempted to capture her for himself!
"Goodbye, Makoto. Visit me in the Human World sometime. Life there is far more interesting than in Seireitei," Yoruichi called out, waving a paw before vanishing in an instant.
The Legendary Yoruichi—the Flash Goddess unmatched in Shunpo—even in her cat form, was beyond Makoto's ability to trace.
This time, Makoto wisely refrained from muttering any complaints. Instead, he closed his eyes, focusing intently on the movement of the Seed of the Forest inside Yoruichi.
Eventually, the seed stopped moving, settling in the Shihoin family estate before vanishing from his senses.
'It seems Yoruichi has already left for the Human World through the Shihoin family's Senkaimon,' Makoto deduced.
Tonight's encounter gave him a better understanding of Byakuya's frustrations.
Yoruichi... truly was a mischievous cat!
'Someday, I'll pluck every single strand of fur off her!' Makoto silently vowed as he turned and headed back to the underground training grounds.
---
In the days that followed, without Yoruichi's interruptions, Makoto's life gradually settled into a routine.
The Fourth Division barracks and the newly renovated courtyard, tailored specifically for Unohana, were completed. The division finally moved out of their temporary tents.
With Kotetsu Isane assisting with administrative work and Aoki Risa handling field operations, Makoto spent little time on division management.
Instead, he spent his nights sneaking into the underground training grounds to practice Shunpo and Shunko with Soi Fon.
However, while Fon—thanks to Yoruichi's prior guidance—quickly grasped the basics of Shunko, Makoto found himself struggling.
Despite understanding the principles, he couldn't step through the doorway to mastery.
His shortcomings in Hakuda, Kido, and Zanjutsu—due to his focus on Kaido, healing, and Shunpo—left him unable to meet the basic requirements for Shunko.
Time flew by, and while their nightly training yielded no breakthroughs, the return of Unohana to the Fourth Division finally arrived.
