Chapter 16: SJIN: Chapter 16
---
Ever since he transmigrated to the Naruto world, he hadn't actually left the Land of Fire. On one hand, he needed an opportunity to familiarize himself with the terrain outside. On the other hand, he also understood the significance of this mission for Konoha. The Second Hokage had died at the hands of Kinkaku and Ginkaku. If he could successfully avenge him, it would be equivalent to Naruto defeating Pain for Konoha. Mizuno could instantly become a hero of Konoha and become a high-ranking official by right.
Then, forget about the Eight Inner Gates. Even if he wanted the entire Second Hokage's lab, he would have the right to ask directly. He wouldn't have to rely on Sarutobi's permission anymore.
Mizuno looked at the information about Kinkaku and Ginkaku in the file and fell into deep thought.
Finding them wouldn't be difficult, but taking them down wouldn't be easy.
Even if he gathered all of Konoha's elite ninjas, he couldn't say with certainty that they would succeed. Besides, key figures like Danzo and Sarutobi couldn't easily leave Konoha.
He needed to find some powerful helpers.
Helpers whose strength was comparable to Kinkaku and Ginkaku.
Just as he was thinking this, a voice came from outside the door.
"Mizuno-sama, Mizuno-sama!"
Mizuno frowned slightly.
He was younger than Sakumo, but he was always treated as an elder.
"I'm here to say goodbye," Sakumo said.
Hatake Sakumo was someone Mizuno had picked out from among the ordinary people. In a way, he had a debt of gratitude to Mizuno, so Sakumo had come to say goodbye specifically.
"Have the Twelve Guardian Ninja been assembled?" Mizuno asked.
Sakumo nodded. "The number has been decided. We'll set out to protect the Daimyo tomorrow."
Mizuno acknowledged this, and then an idea suddenly came to him.
"Sakumo, how about I go with you?"
Sakumo's eyes lit up. "If Mizuno-sama is willing, of course! We won't be coming back after that, and we're just missing a representative from Konoha!"
Okay! Mizuno readily agreed.
Thinking about dealing with Kinkaku and Ginkaku, Mizuno decided to ask the Daimyo for help.
Early the next morning, he arrived at the gate of Konoha.
Sakumo's group of ninjas were already prepared.
"Why are there only seven people?" Mizuno was surprised.
Hatake Sakumo scratched his head. "The other five are from the Fire Temple and the Daimyo's guards. It was decided later by the Hokage and the Daimyo."
Mizuno was stunned. This wasn't what they had agreed upon.
But after scanning the seven people, Mizuno understood.
Hatake Sakumo, the strongest ninja of Konoha's younger generation, Kakashi's father, with a promising future.
Shinku Yūhi, a highly skilled genjutsu ninja in Konoha, also the father of Yūhi Kurenai.
Kato Dan, the future lover of Tsunade, whose strength was no less than the Sannin.
Sarutobi Shinosuke, Sarutobi Hiruzen's own son, Asuma's older brother, considered by many to be Konoha's successor.
Uchiha Shima, a top ninja of the Uchiha clan, second only to Uchiha Kagami within the clan.
Senju Sensui, the leading new star of the Senju clan.
Daichi Monk, a highly respected monk from the Fire Temple.
There were four Jōnin, a Jōnin-level monk, and Kato Dan and Sarutobi Shinosuke, who were at a lower level, were actually the weakest genin.
Mizuno couldn't help but feel a pang of pain. No wonder the Third Hokage didn't agree. This Hatake Sakumo really brought all of Konoha's elites!
"That's because you didn't see the original list of twelve," Hatake Sakumo said proudly. "I was going to include Danzo-sama and Kagami-sama, but the Hokage got angry, so I had no choice but to pick the two best from the newly graduated genin."
It seems that Dan's grades were better than Tsunade and Orochimaru.
Mizuno frowned slightly. Sarutobi was a person who rarely got angry. The fact that he lost his composure clearly indicated that Hatake Sakumo had gone too far.
Even these seven were already incredibly strong.
Looking at Sakumo's excited expression, Mizuno suddenly realized that he, like Danzo, had no political acumen.
He had promised the Daimyo that he would just send some mid-level to high-level Jōnin. But Sakumo actually pulled the rug out from under Konoha's feet.
This wasn't a good thing.
But Mizuno didn't care about that now. He had to go see the Daimyo to confirm some things.
Before they departed, two groups of people came to see them off.
One was Shimura Danzo.
He pulled Mizuno aside with a worried expression.
"Mizuno, I'm here to see you off. And I also want to tell you that I've figured something out these past two days. I want to talk to you about it."
Mizuno was very surprised. "What is it?"
Danzo frowned. "Tell me, did Sarutobi mean for me to kill Senju Mineshi and Mu that day?"
This startled Mizuno.
"Why would you think that?"
Danzo muttered to himself. "I've thought about it over and over again, and I just feel like Sarutobi was hinting at something that day."
Mizuno was silent.
He understood that Danzo had changed from now on.
Danzo scratched his head in distress. "Ever since Sarutobi became the Third Hokage, I feel like he's different."
Mizuno nodded. "That's understandable. He's in the Hokage's position now, and there are many things he can't say directly."
Danzo slapped his thigh. "Right, right, that's it, that's it!"
He seemed to have suddenly realized something, and his voice became louder. "If Sarutobi has things he can't say, I'll help him say them. If he has things he can't do, I'll help him do them. That's right, that's right! That's the meaning of Root!"
With that, he hugged Mizuno. "Mizuno, you're truly a wise man!"
Mizuno helplessly pushed him away, and Danzo went back with a grateful heart.
Watching his retreating figure, Mizuno vaguely felt that the political understanding between Danzo and Sarutobi had quietly begun.
On the other side, the second person to come and see them off was a young genin. He had fair skin, handsome features, and an effeminate aura. Mizuno recognized him instantly. It was Orochimaru, who had just graduated not long ago.
He was naturally seeing Kato Dan off. Mizuno knew that in the original story, Kato Dan and Orochimaru were good friends.
"How are you doing?" Mizuno asked naturally.
Dan smiled at Mizuno. "I'm fine, Mizuno-sama. My friend just came to see me."
Orochimaru glanced at Mizuno, his eyes clear and innocent. He bowed gracefully to Mizuno, then said to Dan, "Since that's the case, I'll go first. Remember what I told you."
Dan nodded and waved goodbye.
The rest of the journey was simple. Mizuno led the seven people to the Daimyo's mansion.
He wasn't worried about any accidents. With these seven people by his side, he didn't need to worry about anything unexpected.
The group was very fast, arriving a whole day earlier than last time.
"Oh my," the Daimyo was very polite to Mizuno. After all, Mizuno had brought him a level of defense he had never had before. "Please, have a seat, Mr. Mizuno. You're a rare guest."
This time, there was no tension like last time. Mizuno naturally chatted with the Daimyo.
The samurai Hanpō and Hatake Sakumo handled the relevant procedures. They had a good relationship, so everything went smoothly.
After eating and drinking to their hearts' content, Mizuno finally asked a question.
"Excuse me, my lord, how do you usually hire bodyguards?"
The Daimyo was stunned for a moment, then mentioned a place. "There's a lawless area on the border between the Land of Iron and the Land of Rain."
...
...
Outside of the Hidden Waterfall Village.
Mizuno sat cross-legged by a waterfall.
This was the place the Daimyo had mentioned. Not only were there mercenary deals from various forces, but there were also countless bounty hunters.
After bidding farewell to the Daimyo, Mizuno came to this village alone.
He offered the local broker a staggering price.
"I'm here to buy a life, and I only need one person. You should know what that means – my mission is extremely dangerous."
Facing the speechless broker, Mizuno said this.
"You... your price is truly terrifying. So, I hope you can tell me about the mission. That way, the freelance bounty hunters can make an estimate."
"I told you, I'm here to buy a life. Tell those who are willing to take the reward to be prepared to give up their hearts."
Mizuno dropped this line and left.
Over the next three days, he received signals from several groups of bounty hunters. With a big reward, there were always brave men. There weren't that many fearless freelance ninjas.
But Mizuno refused them all.
He was waiting for someone to appear.
Until the third day, a black figure walked towards him by the waterfall.
He was wearing a mask, had blue eyes and black hair, and exuded a terrifying aura of death.
"You said this mission requires giving up one's heart?" the person asked.
Mizuno stood up and said directly, "That's right. I've been waiting for you for a long time, Kakuzu."
Yes, he was waiting for this long-lived old ninja, the bounty hunter – Kakuzu.
His strength was at the level of a Kage, he could face Kinkaku and Ginkaku head-on, he could be dispatched at any time, he had plenty of time, etc., etc. Kakuzu perfectly fit the bill.
The only drawback was that he was expensive.
Of course, the price wasn't Kakuzu's problem, it was Mizuno's problem.
But this problem had been solved. Mizuno had asked Sarutobi for a large sum of money when he took on this mission.
He turned around, facing Kakuzu.
"I have a big job here. I wonder if you're willing to take it. If you succeed, I'll double the reward."
Kakuzu's eyes widened.
