Chapter 60: Chapter 60: What Did You and Nohara-kun Just Do in That Room?
Fortunately, Eriri wasn't that interested in this kind of melodramatic family ethics drama.
"Um, Shin-chan has something and needs to head back first. I'll ask the family's driver to take him. Is everyone else staying here?"
Hearing Eriri say that, only then did Nene and Utaha put down the scripts in their hands. Since the host herself was leaving, it would be a bit rude for them to stay behind.
'Finally… saved....'
Masao, Kazama, and Bo could finally breathe a sigh of relief. If things had gone on any longer, wouldn't they have been completely drained?
The thing drained wasn't energy, it was their confidence in life.
"Looks like we'll have to wait till next time, Sakurada-chan. I'm really looking forward to your next script!"
"Kasumigaoka-senpai! Don't worry, I'll definitely take it seriously!"
Utaha stared at Nene, and the look exchanged between them sparked a fire called soulmates.
"Give me a break already! Why are you two getting all fired up again! There's no next time for this sort of thing!" Looking at the overly enthusiastic girls, Kazama couldn't help but complain. If not for Shin-chan, he wouldn't have tolerated this for a second.
"Alright, alright, sorry about that. I'll invite everyone again next time to hang out."
Eriri honestly didn't want Shin-chan to leave, but it was obvious that he really didn't like this ultra-realistic pretend-family-play.
"Eriri, no need to walk me out. I can go back myself."
"Then tomorrow, I'll send that painting over to you."
"Okay."
After sending everyone out from her family's villa, Eriri finally let out a sigh of relief. Everyone had finally left, now she could relax. Pretending to be a proper lady the whole time had been exhausting.
"Wait a minute! Why didn't you leave?!"
Eriri noticed that Utaha hadn't left either. She was still sitting on the sofa, drinking tea.
"Aren't you going to explain to me… what you and Nohara-kun were doing in the room just now?"
———
"Shin-chan, why do you still have a bag with you?"
After stepping out of the house and taking a deep breath of fresh air, Kazama finally felt alive again. He glanced at Nene beside him, and seeing her still look unsatisfied, he found it terrifying. Thank goodness Nene hadn't come to Shuchiin Academy. If she had…
"Oh right! I almost forgot if you didn't mention it!"
Reminded by Kazama, Shin-chan suddenly remembered.
"Kazama, this is for you."
"Huh?!"
Kazama looked at what Shin-chan handed over and couldn't help his pupils from shaking.
"This… this is the Magical Girl Moe P Limited Edition Album, I'll Cast a Spell on You!"
"How did you even get this limited album? I heard it wasn't even released to the public!" Kazama took the album, completely overjoyed.
But seeing the strange looks from Nene and Masao beside him, he quickly tried to recover.
"Ahem, it's not like I especially like it or anything."
"I forgot too. I think I got it once during a shopping trip in a lottery at the supermarket. If you don't like it…"
"Since it's a gift from you, I'll reluctantly accept it."
Seeing Shin-chan try to take it back, Kazama couldn't care anymore and immediately hugged the album tightly.
"Bo, this one's for you."
"Ah! A star-shaped rock!" Bo took the rock with a look of total joy, like he had just received a priceless treasure.
Seeing Kazama and Bo both get presents, Masao couldn't help but look forward with hope.
"This manga is for you, Masao."
"Wow! It's the Marineford War Limited Compilation! Even if the later chapters were a mess, this arc is a classic among classics!"
"Thanks for today, everyone, for coming with me to visit Eriri's home."
Seeing Shin-chan was already expressing thanks, Nene looked surprised. "What about me? Don't I get a gift? I worked hard today too, you know!"
Nene's words made the others fall silent.
'Wasn't all today's hardship for you, Nene?'
"Um… I really didn't prepare anything for you today, Nene."
"What?" Nene was already clenching her fists.
"But Eriri gave me this, and asked me to give it to you."
"Ah! This brand's lipstick! Is this really for me? I feel so embarrassed!"
Before Shin-chan could even finish, the lipstick was already snatched from his hand.
After giving out all the gifts, Shin-chan let out a long breath. Kazama, Bo, and Masao had given so much today. Meanwhile, Nene and Utaha had hit it off too well, this ultra-realistic pretend-play had become more terrifying than ever before.
"Then that's it for today. I've got to hurry home and review."
Checking the time, it was still early, so Kazama planned to go home and study for his make-up classes.
"Let's hang out again next time! Kasumigaoka-senpai invited me to visit Shuchiin, so let's play ultra-realistic pretend-family-play again then!"
Nene was more than satisfied. She got to play pretend-family, and she received a lipstick gift too, it was a perfect day.
Kazama and Shin-chan exchanged a glance. Though no words were spoken, everything was understood.
Kazama, 'Shin-chan, you'll ask Ai-chan to help, right?'
Shin-chan, 'Don't worry. I'll have Ai-chan put Nene on Shuchiin's blacklist.'
And thus, the short reunion of the Kasukabe Defense Force came to an end.
Just as he left Eriri's house, Shin-chan heard the system's mission completion chime. Eriri's problem had already been resolved. The system notified him that he could now claim his reward at any time.
Although Shin-chan was already a Swordmaster, he still didn't have a sword of his own, not even a wooden or bamboo one.
Now that he had a named blade, Shin-chan was eager to return home and test its grip and feel.
He took the train back home and claimed the mission reward. Suddenly, he felt weight in his hand, a katana with a scabbard appeared in his grasp.
The scabbard and hilt were both black. Under the light, they sparkled faintly, like snow falling in winter.
Unsheathing it, the hilt bore two kanji, Fubuki (Blowing Snow). The blade measured about 110cm in total length, a bit on the short side for a katana. Compared to the more common tachi, it was shorter and had a gentler curve.
Though smaller than usual samurai swords, it had solid heft. Just like the scabbard, the blade shimmered with fine flecks under the light.
Gripping it in his hand and giving it a feel, it was more comfortable than he ever imagined.
Shin-chan's talent in swordsmanship far exceeded that of any Swordmaster in Japan's history. But the former Shin-chan had never truly acknowledged his own talent.
Now, Shin-chan couldn't help but feel a little excited. In next week's duel with the Musashino-style Sword Arts junior disciple… would there be some surprises?
