027 – She, Who Welcomes Kobolds
Busy days fly by.
Firstly, the focus turned to rebuilding Sutin Village, particularly its structures.
We acknowledged the confusion stemming from the village chief's murder at the assembly hall, prompting us to restore unity among the villagers and reassign tasks.
Truth be told, this was relatively straightforward. With a population of just thirty-two people and orcs peacefully engaged in farming, there wasn't much need for detailed instructions.
The plan involved relocating some orcs to the borderlands to cultivate new fields. Initially, I worried about overburdening them, but Montego assured me it wasn't a big deal since they previously spent more time relaxing than working.
As a side note, we cleared the burnt remains of the village chief's house and rebuilt Euphemia Grimwood's residence to accommodate the orcs. Though the spacious layout surprised me, it wasn't a bother.
"I had hoped to provide Lady Euphemia with a grander house..."
"This is more than sufficient for now."
"I don't want to inconvenience you..."
The orcs' commendable words earned them a smile from Euphemia. Personally, I could have used some new clothes – still wearing Junos's coat – but I appreciated their kindness.
My dwelling was low on my list of priorities anyway.
Junos and the others were also swamped with tasks.
Firstly, there was watch duty, a task we couldn't overlook. Then, we had to secure our forces.
It was essential to keep some demons in Sutin Village, so we always had about eight stationed there. The rest were either exploring the borderlands, acting as messengers, or assisting Dubil, the dwarven blacksmith, alongside two orcs and Jainos the axeman. Initially, we rushed Dubil to complete his initial tasks, then expanded our assistance and assigned him more duties.
While not as intense as a death march, it was still quite hectic. We had to consider expanding the fields, managing water, and issuing orders to Dubil.
For some reason, Katarina and Kirina shadowed me closely, seemingly eager to observe my actions. While I wasn't particularly skilled in politics compared to Junos and the orcs, I still had an edge, given my previous life experience as a middle-aged man.
I tend to forget that despite my cute appearance hehe~.
Regardless, both girls observed my work with surprising seriousness, bombarding me with questions whenever I had a moment free. I didn't always respond seriously, but Katarina and Kirina were the type to mull things over themselves, so it didn't matter much.
Oh yes, about Kirina's parents.
Zamba Broad of the werewolf tribe and Stella of the fox tribe.
I ended their lives swiftly and painlessly by detonating their heads, sparing unnecessary suffering. It wasn't a decision made lightly, but to appease those who wanted me to lead and to ease my own unease, it was group decision. The Yunofeliza tribe prided itself on being rational, but lately, I've begun to doubt that claim.
Yeah...
That's all.
Honestly, I can't understand why. Their deaths serve no enjoyment or benefit whatsoever. In truth, I had intended to use them for free labor after impaling their legs but everyone insisted regardless of my opinion...
So.
About fifteen days after the attack on Sutin Village.
A group of kobolds arrived at the village.
