Chapter 1: She needs to be saved
The era of kingdoms. A world of Righteous Kings, Noble queens and beautiful princesses. Valiant guards patrolled the land and loyal knights protected the royals.. Although with that, came consequences. An evil witch, A greedy dragon, a guy who has a grudge against the king from that time they played hide and seek and the king said they weren't playing even though they obviously were because why else would they be in the attic of a stable.
…
Anyways, with the rise of royals came the rise of hate, and what better way to strike at a kingdom, then to kidnap their princess. Even though, any knight worth their weight in salt would save them, no matter the foe.

"Mikey i won't be telling you again, go save her!", a mother stood over a boy, arms folded across her chest. The boy in question laying face down on a bear shaped carpet. Through a faint mumble the boy replied. "What was that Mikey, I can't hear you" Mikey's mother said, clearly fed up.
Mikey lifted his head up, "What do you want me to do about it?"
"Go save her Mikey, what else?" an annoyed look crossed Mikey's face. In a sarcastic tone he replied, "your acting like i'm the one who did it, like let me just go, "un-kidnap" her real quick" at that Mikey's mother lifted him by the collar and looked him in the eye.. "Alright Mikey that's it, either you go save that girl, or i'm sending you to your grandparents house.", Mikey's mother dropped him as she said those final words.
A look of betrayal appeared on Mikey's face, "B-But Moooommmm", Mikey said pleadingly, gripping on to his mothers leg, With a swift quick she knocked him into a wall. "Don't "But Moooommm" me", she said in the same sarcastic tone. "I gave you plenty of chances, now leave to go find her, or I can "help" you leave", His mother said while pointing at the door way
"M-mom, you wouldn't do that to your only son would you?"

The hard feeling of a marble hit Mikey's back. "Ah" Mikey said in a hiss, "you didn't have to throw me that hard did you?", Mikey said, rubbing the back of his head. From behind him his mother shouted. "Either you come back with the princess, or don't come back at all!" She shouted before slamming the door.
Mikey got up, his hand transitioning to rub his sore back. 'How am I supposed to save a princess?' Mikey started walking, thinking of a way to even start. 'The amount of things that could've took her, like an evil witch, a greedy dragon, a guy who has a grudge against the king from that time they played hide and seek and the king said they weren't playing even though they obviously were because why else would they be in the attic of a stable. An enemy kingdom, how am I supposed to deal with any of that?'
As Mikey walked he looked around. "Man these prices are getting outrageous, I paid 5 copper for 1 loaf of bread yesterday FIVE, last week they only cost 4!" a stone gray man said, gesturing to a neighboring shop. "Eh i mean maybe if you're a peasant the prices would be a little outrageous" a tall light orange woman replied. Two antennas sticking from her forehead.
The following argument that ensued made Mikey walk just a bit faster. 'No one even cares that the princess is gone, why do I have to deal with it?' Mikey grumbled in his mind. Just then his mental rant was interrupted by a shout.
"OI, THE BLOODY PRINCESS HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED" a drunken man stumbled out of a bar, a beer cup still in his hand, while holding a missing paper.
Dead silence took over the street. From the very back a hand rose. A confused voice spoke, "What are we supposed to do about it?" murmurs of agreement could be heard across the street, "Forget about that" the same Gray man from earlier. "Have you seen these bread prices, A full FIVE copper for one loaf?"
Mikey watched as the crowd turned from dead silence to arguing about bread prices. Turning to his left he saw the man who shouted before slamming a paper on a crate before stumbling back towards the bar he came from, he didn't make it. 'Maybe that's one place to start.' Mikey grabbed the paper, 'princess kidnapped, volunteers head towards the castle to save her'
"Guess that's where i'm heading next"

"And your reasoning, for wanting to save my daughter, the kidnapped princess, is not to be sent to your grandparents house?" Mikey stood, head facing towards a golden throne, one so large one might ask thyself, "why such a large throne, it must be way too much hassle to get up and get down from it?"
"HELLO, IS THAT YOUR REASON?", a shout brought Mikey out of his stupor, "y-yes your highness", Mikey bowed towards The King, The King in question merely face palming before sighing to himself, "Though your reasons are less noble than I'd hope, you do have my blessing to save her.", a breath Mikey didn't know he was holding was let out.
"Yes, your majesty but may I ask a question?", the king waved his hand in reply. "Where are the other volunteers, ya know? Like the royal knights that swore to protect her? A band of adventures looking for an epic quest, a new guard who wants to prove his worth?" The King merely rubbed his temples at the flurry of questions.
"Do you want to be frank with you?" Mikey nodded. "In this world, there are many, many kingdoms, even more princesses in those kingdoms, and even more kinds of princesses." Mikey nodded along as the king spoke. "Along with those I can name a few," The king took a deep breath before starting.
"The noble princess, the one seen as an idol to the kingdom, The Studios princess, the Bookworm, the one who spends all day and night in the library, very good at politics, great at what she does. The Ice Cold princess, the kind that believes themself to already be queen, excels at everything they do. The humble princess, the one out in the crowds, giving bread to the poor who can't afford 5 copper for one loaf." From faraway you could hear a sneeze.
"The evil princess, the one who the commoners fear, and or worship, The bratty princess, the one who gets pampered all the time and can't take no for an answer" The king finished off with another deep breath. Mikey nodded his head while scratching his chin, "so why d-" he was cut off by The King before he could finish. "Now, which one do you think my daughter falls under?"
"Uh, the noble?"
"No"
"The ice cold princess?"
"No"
"The Bookworm?"
"No"
Mikey frowned. "Okay, then what is she?"
The king looked tired. "She's boring."
"…Boring?"
"Just—boring. She doesn't read, fight, cry, sing, scream, or even sleep dramatically. She just lays there. Awake. In bed. All day."
Mikey clicked before grabbing his chin while nodding, "so you have the sleeping beauty typ-",
"No, no… she just lays there. Not sleeping, not thinking, just existing."
"is that not just sleeping beau-" Mikey was cutoff before he could finish
"Sleeping Beauty did something. She slept."
"…Right."
The King start massaging his temples, "Truth be told, she's boring, just plain boring, all she does is just lay in her room."
"Ok but why wouldn't people go to save her then?"
"Money?"
"No."
"Status?"
"Close."
"A family heirloom, passed down from generations pas-"
"i can tell you right now, the answers no"
"uh, Marriage?"
"Bingo." The king slumped in his massive throne. "But no one wants to marry her. So no one wants to rescue her."
Mikey tilted his head. "So why me?"
"Because you have no romantic interest. You just don't want to visit your grandparents."
"…I feel incredibly manipulated."
"And I feel incredibly desperate."
The King sighed, resting his head on the back on his extremely large not overcompensating throne. "But that's where you come in, ya know you really don't know how much of a favor you're doing me. Like just the cost of hiring an adventurers group is just" the king pointed upwards. "WOOH, ya know what i mean? Just look at bread prices these days." The King coughed in his hand. "But to be kind, if you do find my daughter you will take her hand in marriage, and become the next king."
"I thought you said she was too boring to get married?" a glare from The King quickly shut Mikey up. "Ok um, where do I start? Also do you know what could've taken her?"
"Ah yes, of course" The king stroked his beard as he began muttering to himself. "Hmm ah, no not the bog hag, maybe lizard men? Mm no way they wouldn't want her, um, i think maybe a dragon? No she isn't shiny, hmm, it might be the, they probably don't know she exist, uh, hmm well my boy, truth be told." The king shrugged his shoulders, "I have no clue, I wouldn't even kidnap her if i was a guy who has a grudge against the king from that time they played hide and seek and the king said they weren't playing even though they obviously were because why else would they be in the attic of a stable."
Mikey looked at the king with a dumbfounded stare. "Anyways, that's for you to figure out, isn't it? I'm not paying you for nothing" The king leaped off his throne, heading towards his quarters. "Can I at least be allowed to search the castle for clues, like her room?" from over his shoulder the King spoke. "Oh yea um, just find her, you have full access, except for the dungeon, don't go in the dungeon" At that final sentence the king closed the door behind him.
"Alright Mikey, you got this" Mikey took a step forward, before falling to his knees. "I DON'T KNOW WHERE HER ROOM IS!"
10 minutes later you could still hear the shout bouncing from the walls.
