Chapter 656: Knowing Is Good Enough
Hai Shen listened to the conversation inside, the smile on his face grew increasingly cold. If Grandfather knew the granddaughter he had always protected had actually done such a thing, it was hard to say what he would dare to imagine.
To think she wanted to compare herself to Bao'er, she wasn't even worth a single hair of Bao'er's.
"Knock, knock..." Hai Shen raised his hand and knocked on the door, quickly silencing the conversation inside.
"Come in!"
Hai Shen pushed the door open, "How's the injury?" he asked in a flat tone.
"Big brother!" Hai Lan saw him come in and her expression froze for a moment, only relaxing when Hai Shen took the initiative to ask about her condition. "It hurts a lot. The doctor said I might never be able to dance again."
"Really?"
"What kind of question is that, big brother?" As soon as Hai Lan saw him questioning back, her face changed, "Whose side are you on, big brother? I was deliberately hurt so badly by some people, and you're still taking their side instead of mine. I'm going to tell Grandfather and say that you're bullying me."
"Heh heh heh..." Hai Shen laughed with profound meaning, "It's my fault! Since you were little, you've been healthier than others, who could have expected it to be this serious."
"Big brother…" Hai Lan felt a prickling sensation at his apology. Moreover, she hated it when people said she had been healthier than others since she was a child because if a beggar's body wasn't strong, they wouldn't survive long.
His words were clearly a reminder to her.
Hai Shen pulled a chair over to sit in front of the bed, "I think you should transfer hospitals! Since the injury is so serious, you can't just make do with this place. Uncle and Auntie are worried too." It seemed he was not pleased! He used to be very tolerant when he was younger, so why did he seem to regress as he got older?
"Why hasn't Dad come?" Hai Lan asked with tear-filled eyes.
"Do you really think it's appropriate to have Uncle step in for such a small matter? Don't you think you're making a mountain out of a molehill?" Hai Shen frowned, "Hai Lan, it's not me who you should worry about, Grandfather hates it when people abuse their privileges the most, and I hope you remember your place."
Hai Lan was practically grinding her teeth with rage, the wariness she felt towards Hai Shen growing stronger by the moment, it seemed as if every word he said was targeted at her. She hadn't offended him recently, had she? "I got it! Big brother."
"Good to know!" Hai Shen patted the bed and then took the opportunity to mention the matter about Meng Ping, "Grandfather said he disapproved of your thing with Meng Ping, and you should keep your distance from Su Yun in the future." Although Su Jiang hadn't yet exposed the matter of Su Yun being kicked out of the Su Family, Grandfather had already known about it from inside information. In such a situation, only an idiot would get close to Su Yun; that would clearly be a slap in Su Jiang's face.
Between choosing Su Yun or Su Jiang, anyone with a brain wouldn't need to think twice.
"That's impossible, Grandfather would never oppose me being with Meng Ping."
"Do you think I would lie to you? This is Grandfather's word, and you had best not cross his bottom line."
"Why would Grandfather do this? Didn't he always agree before?" Hai Lan looked at him incredulously, "Grandfather is so fond of me; he clearly knows that I like Meng Ping."
"Do you really not know why he disapproves?" Hai Shen retorted.
"I... I..." Hai Lan stammered, slow to respond before finally saying, "Is it because of Sheng Ning? That's right! It must be because of Sheng Ning. If it wasn't for her, how could Meng Ping not like me?"
Hai Shen, holding his forehead with a headache, said, "If a man doesn't like a woman, he just doesn't like her; forcing it is useless." And everyone knew that even before Sheng Ning came into the picture, Meng Ping had never liked Hai Lan. Before, Grandfather had not objected because not liking someone before marriage could change afterward through cultivation, especially since Meng Ping hadn't truly liked anyone else.
