Sharingan Evolution: Proficiency's Path

Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Malice

"I lost!"

Hearing Shisui's reluctant admission of defeat, Qingming withdrew the short sword he had placed at Shisui's neck.

To be honest, he didn't feel particularly satisfied with this victory.

Firstly, he hadn't been able to completely overpower Shisui in direct combat, which forced him to rely on repeatedly casting jutsu to create openings.

This approach was not only slow and exhausting but also highly dependent on his opponent's mistakes.

If his opponent had been an experienced Uchiha ninja rather than Shisui, who was still young and relatively inexperienced, his strategy might not have worked.

Even if he were to face Shisui again, it was unlikely that Shisui would make the same mistakes.

If the fight had dragged on any longer, the outcome might have been different.

As the saying goes, "the longer the delay, the greater the risk."

If every future battle took this long, there was a good chance that things could go wrong for Qingming.

Ideally, he would prefer to end battles swiftly.

But to win quickly, he needed overwhelming power.

While Qingming wasn't too worried about the future—with his skill proficiency panel, his strength would inevitably surpass others by a wide margin—he knew that for now, and for quite some time, he wouldn't be invincible.

Facing evenly matched opponents would be inevitable, which meant he couldn't always rely on a quick victory.

In such cases, if he didn't want to end up in the same position as today, he would need to address his weaknesses.

That's right, weaknesses.

Through this fight, Qingming realized that he lacked large-scale offensive techniques.

Neither the Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu nor the Fire Release: Dragon Fire Jutsu was effective for wide-area attacks.

Even his Fire Release: Phoenix Flower Jutsu, which was supposedly a group attack technique, only worked effectively when facing opponents significantly weaker than him.

When facing a ninja like Shisui, whose strength was nearly on par with his own, even concentrating all his attacks into one spot didn't guarantee hitting the target, let alone attacking multiple enemies.

As for his other skills, they were even less suited for crowd control.

In short, Qingming had no true large-scale attack options.

This was a clear weakness in his arsenal.

If he had a wide-area attack technique today, Shisui would have had no choice but to engage in close combat, whether he wanted to or not. There would have been no need for Qingming to constantly release jutsu, hoping Shisui would slip up.

Reflecting on the battles of top-tier fighters like Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara, Qingming realized that their attacks were on a completely different scale. Their techniques could reshape the landscape, rendering tactics, battle intelligence, and most traditional forms of ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu practically irrelevant.

A realization dawned on Qingming—this might be the path he should pursue.

"Final match: Uchiha Qingming, victory!"

The examiner's voice interrupted his thoughts, pulling him back to the present.

The arena erupted into cheers.

The Third Shinobi World War was still ongoing, and the Nine-Tails incident had not yet struck Konoha. Danzo and the village's leadership hadn't begun turning public opinion against the Uchiha clan.

As a result, most of Konoha's shinobi didn't harbor any hostility toward the Uchiha.

When Qingming emerged victorious, the crowd had no qualms about applauding him.

Especially the other candidates—they were filled with awe after witnessing the power of the Sharingan and cast envious glances at Qingming.

However, amidst all the admiration, Qingming suddenly sensed a wave of undisguised malice directed toward him.

Frowning slightly, he followed the feeling and looked toward a corner of the second-floor corridor. There, he saw a figure that seemed somewhat familiar.

The man was lean but muscular, wearing a gray-black kimono. His brown hair was neatly cut, and he had two intersecting scars on his chin. A bandage covered his right eye, while his remaining left eye was narrow and sinister.

It was none other than Shimura Danzo.

'When did this troublemaker show up?' Qingming thought, puzzled. But he didn't look at Danzo for long.

Though it was their first meeting, the open malice Danzo displayed left a bitter taste in Qingming's mouth.

But Qingming knew his current limitations. He wasn't strong enough to challenge Danzo's authority just yet.

In situations like this, the best course of action was to keep a low profile.

Qingming wasn't a fool. It would be reckless to provoke someone far stronger than him. Doing so might bring temporary satisfaction but would ultimately be meaningless—and potentially fatal.

The right approach was to build up his strength, then take down his enemies in one decisive blow.

Seeing Qingming turn his gaze away, Danzo looked to the Root ninja standing next to him and ordered, "I want a full report on these two before tonight."

"Yes, Danzo-sama!" The Root ninja responded before vanishing.

At the same time, Hiruzen Sarutobi stepped forward and gave a brief congratulatory speech to the participants before announcing the end of the Chunin Exams.

As for the results... they would be released in two days.

The candidates began to leave the central tower, either with their teachers or assigned chunin messengers.

Qingming was about to leave when two figures approached him—Uchiha Jirin and Uchiha Shisui.

"Let's go together," Jirin suggested.

Without much hesitation, Qingming agreed.

Danzo's presence had already put him on alert, so sticking close to Jirin, a jonin, was a welcome opportunity.

Half an hour later, Qingming parted ways with Jirin and Shisui and returned home.

The first thing he did upon arriving was to scan his surroundings to ensure there were no hidden threats. Only when he confirmed everything was safe did he let out a long sigh of relief.

It wasn't paranoia—Danzo's malice had been all too clear.

With his knowledge from his past life, Qingming knew Danzo was a man who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

Expecting someone like Danzo to play by Konoha's rules was a fool's dream.

So, Qingming had to remain vigilant.

He wouldn't be in the village for much longer, and there was no harm in being cautious until then.

Once he returned to the battlefield, Danzo wouldn't be able to act so easily.

Clearing his mind, Qingming began thinking about how to address the weaknesses in his fighting style.

For large-scale fire release techniques, he thought of the various fire jutsu used by Jiraiya, or the devastating Fire Release: Majestic Destroyer Flame and Fire Release: Majestic Radiance used by Uchiha Madara.

To learn the former, he would need Jiraiya's guidance, though getting close to someone like Jiraiya wasn't a simple task.

As for the latter...

"Maybe I can find something in the Uchiha clan archives," Qingming thought.

If not, he could always develop other chakra nature transformations and look for similar wide-area jutsu.

"As long as I'm alive, I'll figure it out," he muttered to himself.

With that, he pushed the thoughts aside and resumed his daily training.

The Chunin Exams may have just ended, but there was no time to slack off.

Only by constantly improving could he ensure that when danger came, he wouldn't be caught unprepared.
