Chapter 58: Why aren't they coming?

“Personally, I hope that they won’t stay too much of a time together with us,” said Elisa openly. She clearly wasn’t very fond of them.

“I have the same opinion,” added Mara without making eye contact.

“I don’t like them,” apparently, Ella wasn’t very fond of them either.

Gorn now looked towards Rebeca: “What do you think?”

Rebeca felt good that he also wanted her opinion. Obviously, that meant a lot, and had multiple meanings. “I think that the way we are now is the best. Adding more people can become troublesome,” in her mind she was pretty much in a similar position as them, so saying outright that they had no business here wouldn’t be nice no matter how one might look at it. Nora nodded from the side, making it clear what was her intention.

“I see… Thank you for the sincerity. Until the moment I make a final decision, they will stay with us. I hope that a decent level of respect will exist between all of you at all times.” At the present time, Gorn was responsible for Lora, and her family.

‘Working with people is sure not easy,’ thought Gorn, trying to keep things relatively simple. ‘Their opinion is important, but in the end, what matters the most is what I want. The power is in my hands.’

“Of course! We do not hate them or anything. It’s just something similar to what Rebeca said, the more people, the more complicated things become,” said Elisa, alleviating a great part of the tension.

“Good. It’s almost night outside, so better stay here. I’ll call them inside too,” said Gorn, then went outside. “Come here!” In a few moments, the girls arrived in front of the shelter. “Follow me!” Gorn gave them a small tour of the place, and said: “This will be your temporary room. It’s already getting dark outside, so better stay here until morning.” The extra room that Elisa made went to them. It wasn’t anything fancy, but it was decent.

There were a lot of things to be told, but he was I no mood for long discussions. “I’ll sleep at the entrance, and will also go outside from time to time. If it is not important, don’t bother me.”

With those words, he went outside. It was getting darker, and darker. Thankfully, the light of the stars, and his improved sense of sight, allowed him to see without much trouble. Despite all this, he could still sense his shadow. It blended in with the surrounding darkness almost perfectly.

Focusing, he started to control the shadow in every manner that he could think of. It took various forms, extended tens of meters away from his body, and could even shape mouths, and eyes that were able to take a solid form. His vision was connected to those eyes, and he could actually see through them what normally would have been impossible.

The longer he used it, the more drained he became. It was obvious that a large amount of energy was required to operate it. The system, however, had nothing specified about this.

‘What the hell is going on with me?’

Instead of answers, more questions appeared. ‘Is this something bad?’ despite everything that happened, or how things looked, he felt no hostility coming from the shadow. It simply seemed to be a part of him.

Hearing footsteps, Gorn quickly stopped with playing around with his shadow, and made it appear like it wasn’t even there to begin with. Elisa soon came out of their shelter. She was dressed in silken shorts, and a wire free bra. Most of her skin was exposed, making her whole figure very enticing.

“Something happened?” asked Gorn in a low voice.

“I just wanted to take a breath of fresh air,” said Elisa while playing with her long hair.

Her response irritated him; after all, he just told them not to disturb him if it wasn’t anything important. Elisa ignored him, smiled, then sat down in his arms.

“Is this important enough, or should I go back inside?” she asked in a low voice, almost inaudible.

Gorn remained silent.

‘What a fucked up situation.’

The first rays of light soon came into contact with his face. It was the start of a brand-new day. Elisa was still in his lap, with her head resting on his chest. She was even now deep asleep, in a totally relaxed manner.

Getting the skill in the first battle report made him feel great. Right at this time, he heard some footsteps.

‘Perfect timing!’ activating the stealth skill, he also extended it to cover Elisa as well.

Rebeca soon came out. She looked left and right, but did not see anyone. She was rather confused, and kept examining the area. Gorn almost wanted to laugh out loud. To him, Elisa, as well as his own body looked normal, but in other people’s eyes, they probably became blurry, and hard to notice, or even totally invisible.

Seeing enough, Gorn teleported away. Everything was so smooth that Elisa didn’t even wake up. Not wanting to disturb her sleep, Gorn held her in his embrace, and used his teleportation ability to move around. In a short span of time, he scanned a big area around the tree, to see if everything was fine. His stealth ability did wonders, his presence not being discovered in the slightest.

Nothing seemed out of place. Teleporting a few more times, he stopped on top of the tree. That particular spot was great for relaxing. ‘By this time, Norman’s men should have noticed that I killed a few of them. Also, I left behind too many clues… I should have burned the remaining dry corpses, and not allow the other citizens to see my peculiar shadow…’

Alas, it was a little too late for regrets. Furthermore, he was acting more on pure emotions at that time. ‘Why aren’t they searching for me? Speaking of which, all this time, I haven’t seen even one strong individual outside the city. I’m more than sure that there are plenty of people with a power level way above mine…’
