Chapter 27: Suicide? More like murder
Three days later, in the police station, I got a message from Edgar. "I am going to post that I'm back. But it would bring attention to me, and they may want to investigate about Tristan's murder. So, to divert their attention, we give them something more serious. You will give your knife to George so that he can kill himself."
Great, I thought to myself. That's how Edgar is. He creates pawns, uses them, and then kills them. I feel bad for George, though. He is a family man, got a wife and three kids. He was going through problems with Robert, his brother. He was drunk and stressed, sitting in a restaurant; unluckily, his table was beside Edgar's, who at that time wanted Robert killed. George said, "I wish someone would kill that bastard." This took Edgar's attention. He went and sat by George, acting like an ordinary person. "You mean Robert?" Edgar said. "Yeah," he replied, while crying. That one "yes" destroyed his whole life.
I remember sitting next to George; we told each other about how we got involved in this mess. "Why did you sign the papers?" I asked him, concerned. "I didn't," he replied, with tears in his eyes. Apparently, they forged his signature on the document and threatened to kill his whole family if he retreated. Edgar had different types of pawns. One, which he used only once, like George, and then killed them. Second, he creates without knowing what they can be used as, like Aurora. Third, he uses almost regularly, like me. Fourth, which he promotes to a bigger position, like Bishop, which would be his best friend. Fifth, who can live as long as they aren't aware of the truth, which is our beloved Tristan.
Anyway, I went to the cell. George came and held my collar, "Please, tell me some good news," he said between his teeth. I am sure he had been waiting for Edgar to come and save him. "There's a knife in my pocket, kill yourself," I said. The words felt like needles on my tongue. The moment I said those words, he knew it was an order. And for his family, he took out that knife.
I came back to the room, overwhelmed with emotions. "Where is Daniel?" Aiden asked me, as soon as I entered the room. "No idea," I replied. Aiden told me to find him, and so I went out. I wasn't in the mood to find him, so, me being me, I went to Edgar's apartment. To meet Aurora. To see if she has decided to do something. I was close to the apartment when I saw Aurora sitting in a restaurant with some guy. I went in there and sat on the chairs behind them. Far enough not to be noticed and close enough to listen to everything. I listened to the whole conversation, and as soon as the guy spoke, I knew who he was. He was...
