Shadow deprived of life ( broken trust , a twisted smile )

Chapter 13: Reset, Restart, Rewind

"Where have you been?" Aiden asked Daniel, as soon as he walked in. Aiden was still sitting in the chair.

"Just roaming around" Daniel replied. "Where is Ryan?" Aiden asked, looking away. Daniel was confused, "How would I know that?" He said, giving a short-lived laugh.

"He went to find you" Aiden said, shrugging. Upon seeing the utter confusion on Daniel's face, he continued speaking "I sent him to find you. Thirty minutes ago, he called me and informed me that he had found you. And you both would come back soon" The smile on Daniel's face faded away.

"I... have no idea what—" Aiden cut him off. "Leave it, let's discuss it when he arrives. For now, come sit here" He said, tapping on the seat beside him. Daniel sat there. It was a wooden table and was very uncomfortable.

"This case... is a bit weird" Aiden said. "No doubt" Daniel replied. "Shall we restart it?" Aiden asked. "How?" Daniel wondered. "Mentally restart it. When one problem seems to be stuck, you take a step back" Aiden answered. "Seems good to me" Daniel said.

For the next thirty minutes, they reviewed the entire case. On the murder site, they found footprints, but the shoes had not yet been found. One of Tristan's ribs was fractured. He was shot twice, once in his left leg and once in the back of his head. The gun found in George's pocket was the one used to shoot Tristan.

The under-construction site had nothing except the footprints that were almost destroyed by the wind. His body was found by two YouTubers who were live-streaming. They were doing a challenge and, by coincidence, found Tristan. He was still alive. 'Barely alive,' Daniel commented. He was brought to the hospital. They checked his phone, but it contained nothing useful. "There has to be a second phone," Aiden said. Daniel agreed, "There has to be."

"One thing to be noted is that his apartment was clean and tidy." Aiden said. "But the diaries were left open, and they had no information on the murder." Daniel finished Aiden's sentence. "That means" Aiden was cut off by Ava, who was standing in the corner silently. "That means he knew he was going to die. So he hid any possible evidence, so that it couldn't be destroyed." Ava said, crossing her arms. "So... where is that evidence?" Aiden asked. "Probably in his phone or another diary" Ava shrugged. "Let's track his phone" Aiden said.

"Take out his previous phone, find his number and locate it, got it?" Ryan said from a distance. "Where. were. you?" Aiden said. Just then, a constable walked in.

"George committed suicide."
