Chapter 20 - Was I Always This Attention-Seeking?
The commotion in the park inevitably became a big topic of conversation.
It’s only natural. I breathed fire like that, and even flew in the park.
…Somehow, I feel like my attention-seeking tendencies have gotten stronger since becoming a dragon.
I feel like I’ve lost my aversion to standing out in front of others.
I’ve felt it for a while, but there are many times when unfounded confidence wells up inside me.
I have this strange confidence that people will treat me well no matter what I do… I just have to do my best to ensure that confidence doesn’t head in the wrong direction.
Anyway, honestly, it was fun to watch the situation that unfolded because of me.
[Wow, holy shit, what was that just now?]
A pillar of fire suddenly shot up in the park near Hanguk University;; It pierced through the clouds?
-?? Does that make sense?
-No, it’s really true!
-Could it be that dragon-type mutant again? I heard they’re a Hanguk University student
-That might be it? First lightning and now breathing fire?
-Just on a different scale by themselves…? Is that the power of a 3-month mutant?
-If you think about it, that High Elf is also absurd lol, talking to plants and stuff
-Come to think of it, that’s true;; If a 2-month mutant is like that, isn’t a 3-month mutant like a strategic weapon?
-Wouldn’t it be dangerous if they went crazy?
[I just saw a dragon-type mutant spreading wings and flying around in the park.]
The wings were huge;;
Just estimating, the wings alone looked to be about 4.5 meters? Was holding a little girl
The girl was excitedly shouting
-?? So they spread their wings and roamed the park playing with a little kid? Really attention-seeking, huh?
-Why did they breathe fire?
-I don’t know lol
-Was there something that made them angry?
-No, I asked some people around who seemed to be juniors or classmates, and they said it was because they begged for a fire show lol
-What kind of fire show is this scale;;
-They said they deliberately shot it where sparks wouldn’t fly and checked if there was anything in the sky
-But if the breath can pierce through clouds, how powerful is it? It feels like my common sense is being denied
-Common sense has been denied since mutants appeared in the world lol
-That’s true
-But even considering that, the scale is too big;; It’s just on a different dimension from the others?
-That’s also true
Looking at that, I was relieved that people weren’t viewing it entirely negatively. However, there would certainly be people who would view me unfavorably.
Just to check, I looked up some community posts, and sure enough:
[But what would happen if they went crazy and shot that breath at a building?]
Isn’t that a bit scary?
Of course, I know not all mutants are bad, and I even have some nice mutants around me, so I can’t judge hastily, but it’s still scary
The power given to individuals is too strong
-For real, if they suddenly go crazy and rampage, can we even stop them?
-The military’s firepower should be able to stop them, right?
-If they fly around shooting breath, there would be a lot of casualties
Since I caused such a commotion… there would inevitably be people who view me with concern.
It’s not that I can’t understand their fear. People tend to fear powers they can’t resist, and they’re anxious about such power being a part of everyday life.
Moreover, as is often the case with mutants, it’s not like there are monsters or such things appearing.
In other words, mutants don’t have much of a function in society.
With only the military to control such overwhelming individual power, people’s anxiety would only increase day by day.
…I think the breath was indeed a bit too much.
I should reflect on that. Next time, I’ll scale it down.
I should also take it easy on showing off; I might have gotten too excited, caught up in the atmosphere and encouragement.
As I was making that resolution and browsing the community a bit… there was one post that caught my eye.
[I’m the parent who entrusted my child to a mutant.]
I’m the person who entrusted my child to the mutant who shot breath in the park near Hanguk University.
The reason I entrusted my child was because they approached the mutant when we were surprised by the breath.
My child was seeing a mutant for the first time.
Maybe they were curious about the horns on their head… I was anxious, thinking it might be a burden to the mutant, but my child, who rarely throws tantrums, threw a huge one.
We were also very embarrassed and worried that the mutant might be offended… but fortunately, the mutant said children can be like that, and brought out their wings, even sacrificing their clothes.
I didn’t know, but to bring out wings, the back part of the clothes must be completely torn…
They said they couldn’t even think about bringing them out if the clothes didn’t have an open back.
But when my child wanted to fly in the sky, they readily did so, and they were an extremely polite and upright student.
Even today, my child keeps saying they want to see the dragon unnie.
Here’s a picture of my child being held by the mutant.
(photo of child with a big smile.jpg)
I’ve mosaic-processed the face, and the mutant said it was okay to use the photo.
Anyway, what you’re all worried about didn’t happen…
When I looked into it separately, other students also said they’re a really good senior.
I’m leaving this post to prevent malicious rumors or concerns from spreading.
Have a good day, everyone.
-Why is this real?
-The person themselves has appeared ㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷ
-Oh
-Wow;; They sacrificed their own clothes to give a child a good memory? Really nice;;
-But isn’t it a bit much to say they’re nice based on just that one thing?
-No, I heard they saved people when capturing the minotaur too… We need mutants like that sometimes
-Yeah, I heard they saved a cafe worker? I heard about it later
-And they’re at Hanguk University…? The world is really unfair
-For real lol
-How is a dragon-type mutant a fresh university student, and that university is considered the best in Korea?
-But why are they still attending university? Looking at the photos circulating in the community, they look like they could make a living as a model
-Don’t know;;
-Everyone has different values, so maybe they’re attending because they don’t want to waste their studies at Hanguk University
-By the way, those wings are really huuuge lol
Seeing that post, I recalled how before I flew up with Yoonseoh, the child’s parents asked if they could take a picture.
Could they have had this situation in mind? I don’t know, but… thanks to them, a part of my heart felt lighter.
And the next day. I had to receive an unexpected phone call.
It was from Agent Choi Jeongho.
“Ah, yes. This is Yoon Seohyun.”
-Hello, Seohyun, good day. I called because I have something to tell you regarding yesterday’s incident.
“Yesterday’s incident? Ah… the breath?”
-Yes. More precisely, the issue is flying around the park…
“What? Not the breath, but flying around the park is the issue?”
-In principle, you’re not supposed to fly in Seoul’s airspace. There’s a fine.
“…Ah. Ho-how much is it?”
-Haha. It’s a joke, just a joke. I just called because you seem to be adapting well. Are you having any difficulties in daily life?
“No. These days… each day seems enjoyable.”
-That’s good. Actually, I was quite worried. Many mutants complain of mental distress or become violent due to the way society views them. You must have good people around you.
“Um… I guess so.”
-Good. Please contact me if you have any discomfort. Since I’m also in charge of caring for mutants…
“…I’ve been wondering about this, Agent.”
-Yes?
“Why is the National Intelligence Service handling this kind of work…? Wouldn’t it be better to establish specialized facilities for mutants?”
-Haha, that’s a good question… Originally, another department was supposed to handle it, but due to many issues with authority, before we knew it, we ended up taking on the responsibility.
“I’ve been trying not to talk about the National Intelligence Service… but I shouldn’t mention this to others, right?”
-Well, those who need to know already know. However, I would appreciate if you didn’t make it too public. Anyway, I’ll contact you if anything comes up.
“Ah, yes.”
-Oh right, there’s a malicious mutant that recently flowed in from China, and we’re planning to distribute a wanted notice soon. Are you interested?
“Um… is there a reward?”
-We can provide a substantial amount. Considering the time spent and equipment consumed to catch that mutant, it’s quite significant. We could provide a reward equal to the amount saved.
“Could you let me know if you find them? I think I can help.”
-Alright. Then I’ll contact you if the location of the wanted person is confirmed.
“By the way, do you request cooperation like this from other mutants as well?”
-I suppose so. No matter how well-trained soldiers or agents are, they’re just ordinary people in front of mutants. Quite a few mutants have helped us.
“I see… I hope I can meet other mutants someday. I’ve been curious about what other mutants are like.”
-Haha. That wouldn’t be bad. I’ll spread the word around once. Then, I’ll see you later.
After finishing the call with the agent, I smiled.
Well… it’s time to earn some pocket money again.
It’s a bit much to call it pocket money given the amount, but the more the merrier.
