Seed of the Sovereign

Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Hard talk

Luke lay on his bed with his eyes closed while Leon sat by his side peeling a weird fruit with an ice knife.

Luke opened his eyes.

"I'm ready."

"Finally," Leon sighed.

After the prank Leon had taken his time to control himself before they both returned to their places to have the much anticipated talk.

Luke began telling Leon everything he knew. Starting with the alarms that woke him up to the black-masked man... How he woke up without understanding why when he should have died and even the the spear he got.

Since the attack, too many things had happened and we're happening. He'd likely experienced more absurd things in this few days than he had his whole life.

Luke didn't understand any of it, so he decided to tell Leon about them, hoping that he could clear up his confusion.

The only thing he left out was the experience with the other soul and what the spear spirit said about it.

He wanted to tell Leon, but he was afraid that he would be called an imposter, so he decided to keep it to himself till he understood Leon more.

At some point in the story, Leon's face had changed from a casual smile to a hard frown.

Especially when Luke talked about the black masked man and Arya's kidnapping, Leon visibly winced, his fists clenching tighter.

When Luke finished a hard silence descended on the room.

At some point Leon had stood up and was pacing in the room but after a few minutes he calmed down and sat back down.

Leon luked at Luke with sadness in his eyes. He already made all those conclusions using what he saw in the mansion but hearing it from Luke's mouth was something else. Seeing him trying to act numb about it, that... that was more heartbreaking.

"I'm sorry,"

He wished he could say more, do more. But In the end, that was all Leon could manage.

"It's okay," Luke said. Then he continued after a pause. "Two days from now, I'd have to leave. I intend to go to the academy."

But upon hearing that, Leon shook his head.

"I can't allow that," he said.

"Huh? What do you mean? Why?" Luke immediately reacted, suspicion colouring his face as he didn't expect Leon's answer.

"Calm down. You're smart, think about it." Leon said, unperturbed by Luke's suspicion.

"Firstly, someone methodologically killed everyone in your clan. Why do you think they wouldn't come after you?

" You heard the black masked man. You're too much of a potential threat to leave alive. I know the academy is generally safe, but they're ways around it, especially for people as powerful as that."

Hearing that Luke's jaws clenched, but Leon continued unperturbed.

"Secondly, if you go to the academy as you are now, you'll simply be a beacon of attention. What? The heir of one of the most powerful clans that fell and therefore one of the only people with their bloodline. Also, the only one with a legitimate claim to all that the Phlego clan has. And then, the owner of a legendary spear seed. Noble clans would rush after you like moths to a flame and you have no backing. Sure the academy will protect you, but like I said, they're ways around this things. You'd either have to join one of them, have another backing or be everyone's enemy.

"Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, there's just too much going on with you right now. The spear seed, awakening both the Coldhearts and the Phlego's bloodline, the golden spear. Too many impossible things are going on with you right now."

As Leon listed his reasons, Luke sank back into his bed lower and lower until he was completely sunken.

"But I have to get stronger, I have to save Arya, I have to take revenge for the clan," he muttered after a few minutes.

Leon sighed.

"Luke, how about we focus on finding your sister and you forget revenge? You can live a life free of that burden. I know it's hard I know it hurts but going down the road of revenge is a much more painful path."

Leon finished and looked towards Luke expectantly. But Luke was just looking towards the ceiling blankly like he didn't hear his words. Leon knew that Luke wasn't going to listen to him so he sighed again.

"I'm not saying you'll never go to an academy. We just need to sort out some issues first and then you can enter an academy."

"How?" Luke asked bright-eyed.

"The most fundamental factor and one that affects those three hindrances is your spear seed.

A weapon seed is simply too rare. Immediately you do anything with it past the academy's gate you'll be found out and it won't be hard for the black masked man to make the connection. Once we get past that limitation, the other problems would be easier to deal with."

"Yeah, but that's my seed. I've never heard of anyone possibly changing their seed before or using another one."

"Yes, it normally isn't possible. But you are an anomaly." Leon said staring closely at Luke.

"What do you mean?"

Leon stared at Luke for a few seconds before looking away.

"Don't worry about that, heal up first. You'll eventually come to know in time. For now, get yourself together and we can start training immediately after you're healed. I'll show you why you're so different then."

"Okay," Luke said, relaxing.

But then, like an electric zap something rushed through his mind.

"Wait, what do you mean Awakening both the Phlego and coldheart bloodline?"

An enigmatic smile rested on Leon's lips.

"What? Did I say that? Funny, I don't remember. Anyway, have your rest first. Goodbye." He said before hastily sneaking from Luke's room, leaving him to his questions.
