Scarlet Moon Goddess Irina

Chapter 14: Revenge in the Darkness

That Extraordinary device could project an invisible barrier over the entire Silverleaf Academy, detecting anyone who tried to enter or leave—so no one could infiltrate the academy.

But Frederick was an exception!

He produced his own Extraordinary device—a simple black round-bellied pen, at first glance—and used it to draw a door directly on the wall before him. In an instant, that door transformed from illusion into reality.

Not only did he "draw" a door on the wall, he effectively created an opening in Silverleaf Academy's protective Extraordinary barrier—an alteration that the barrier itself could not detect.

With the door open, Frederick slipped into Silverleaf Academy.

Inside a room.

"No, you should sleep alone."

Today, Feilin had refused Princess Irina's request to sleep together.

In her view, it was inappropriate for a maid to share a bed with a princess; it was only because, a few days ago, the princess was under tremendous pressure preparing for the Starlight Festival's social events that Feilin had reluctantly agreed to accompany her.

"Feilin, come on, let's sleep together…"

Irina tugged at Feilin's arm, trying to persuade her. Today, she was busy with various tasks and hadn't earned a single experience point—she was hoping to rack up some extra XP by sharing a bed.

Feilin replied in a stern tone, "No, Your Highness, you must understand—according to the rules, once a princess is over eight years old, she must sleep alone…"

Seeing Feilin launching into a litany of rules, Irina could only feel exasperated.

After Feilin had gone on for a while, Irina finally relented, "Fine, I understand—so I have to sleep alone?"

Though she agreed verbally, Irina had already made up her mind to launch a night raid.

Based on some memories left by her previous self, Feilin would fall into a deep sleep and barely stir once asleep, yet her biological clock was incredibly precise—she would wake up exactly at 7:30 every morning.

"It's getting late; Your Highness, you should head back now."

"Got it."

Irina left Feilin's room and was about to return to her own when a sudden urge to pee forced her to head downstairs first.

After taking care of that, Irina made her way back toward her room. However, upon reaching her door, she peeked through the half-open door into the dark room and then turned toward the adjacent room.

This room, essentially a storeroom, housed an Extraordinary device—the Chain of Night!

Holding the box containing the Chain of Night, Irina's expression grew solemn. She tiptoed back to her own room and gently closed the door behind her.

In the darkness, without hesitation, Irina opened the box and grabbed one end of the Chain of Night.

"Clack-clack-clack…"

The crisp sound of the chain echoed as the other end quickly extended, lunging under the bed to snare someone and drag them out.

That someone turned out to be none other than Frederick!

At that moment, Frederick was equally astonished—he'd never expected to be caught. Moreover, this princess from the Kingdom of Moonlight wasn't supposed to be an ordinary person—so why did she now appear to wield Extraordinary powers?

Dragged roughly by the chain, Frederick immediately shouted toward Irina, "Bang!"

Accompanying his shout, an invisible bullet whizzed past—but missed its target.

Did she anticipate my attack and dodge? No, it must be her Sprint…

Frederick's eyes scanned the scene, and he realized what was happening: Irina was employing her Sprint ability, darting erratically around the room to make herself an elusive target.

This startled Irina as well.

What was that just now? An air bullet? Fortunately, I recall that the injured security officer appeared to have been shot, so he was prepared for one of Frederick's tricks—but I never expected him to "shoot" with his mouth. I nearly got hit!

Reacting quickly, Irina decisively directed the chain toward Frederick's mouth while simultaneously focusing her gaze and activating her Ignition ability.

"Ah…"

A small burst of flame suddenly appeared before Frederick's eyes. He cried out in agony; his attempted counterattack crumbled instantly, and then the Chain of Night clamped down on his mouth, rendering him speechless.

Irina paused in astonishment—did Ignition really have that kind of power? But now wasn't the time to dwell on it.

Under Irina's mental command, the Chain of Night tightened further. Already severely injured, Frederick was utterly powerless to resist; all that could be heard was the crunching of breaking bones as he gradually slumped, his strength fading away.

Before dying, Frederick's heart was filled with regret—if only he had known that Irina was an Extraordinary, he would never have recklessly come here.

Once convinced of Frederick's death, Irina exhaled deeply, collapsing weakly onto the floor. Then she noticed that the spot where she sat was slightly damp.

"Side effect…"

Irina muttered a couple of words before hurriedly releasing the Chain of Night.

Without the intervention of an Extraordinary's power, the Chain of Night detached from Frederick's body and retracted to a shorter length, lying quietly on the floor.

Glancing between the Chain and Frederick, Irina felt a sense of narrow escape.

Frederick had indeed come to take revenge on her—but he was already badly injured, and she had detected his presence early by the faint bloodstains on the floor. Otherwise, the consequences would have been dire.

After returning the Chain of Night to its box, Irina opened the door to check Feilin's room. The commotion there had been neither too much nor too little, but Feilin appeared to have fallen asleep, seemingly unaware of what had transpired.

"What now? Should I turn him over to the Mysterious Bureau? But then how do I explain his death? Do I have to reveal that I'm an Extraordinary? No, I can't do that—I must not let anyone know I'm an Extraordinary; that's my trump card."

Irina murmured to herself and soon formed a plan.

After taking a few steps, she suddenly felt something sticky on her body. Frowning slightly, she realized she needed to change her underwear first.

Then, Irina approached Frederick's corpse and rummaged over his body, retrieving a few items that might be useful. Clutching Frederick's corpse, she quietly slipped out.

I can't believe I wasn't more afraid of a corpse—is it because the resilience of my former self's spirit influenced me? After all, my previous self had seen war and witnessed far harsher scenes.

Thinking this, Irina, under the cover of a moonless, windy night when no one was watching, took Frederick's body to the back mountain. Using her Ignition ability, she burned him to a charred ruin in a matter of minutes, then tossed the remains into a pit and buried them.

After all that, considerable time had passed. Gasping for breath, Irina returned to her room, intent on examining what Frederick had left behind.
