0 - The Smoking Saint
“I don’t understand why our Order makes such tasteless food.”
It was a statement I could hardly believe came from the mouth of the Saint, the face of the Order.
I shook my head vigorously and narrowed my eyes. Fortunately, it seemed there were no believers around to lose their faith after hearing the Saint’s explosive remark.
“Are you still worried? I don’t say these things where believers can hear me.”
“Shouldn’t you refrain from saying such things even where believers cannot hear?”
“Picky person.”
The Saint shook her head and walked toward the garden at one corner of the chapel. As I quietly followed behind her, I sensed what was coming.
This person, she’s starting again.
As I expected, the Saint carefully checked to make sure no one was watching, then pulled out a stick from her pocket.
No. There’s no point in sugar-coating it.
What the Saint held in her hand was a cigarette. I truly couldn’t believe what I was seeing with my own eyes.
“A post-meal smoke is truly wonderful. Did you know?”
“I don’t.”
“You should try it this time. Would you like to smoke one?”
“I’m not interested.”
“Boring person.”
The Saint grumbled as she put the cigarette between her lips. Then she immediately put her hand in her pocket, holding the cigarette stably between her delicate lips in a truly practiced manner.
What came out of the Saint’s pocket was a lighter. With familiar movements, she flicked the lighter with a click.
However, the cigarette did not light up.
“Oh, the lighter is empty.”
‘That’s unusual.’
It was unlike the Saint to ever allow a situation where she couldn’t smoke due to not having a lighter.
Thinking this was a good opportunity, I spoke up.
“This worked out well. Saint, you should quit smoking. If the believers knew that you, the highest-ranking person in the Order, were committing such a blasphemous act, what a sad thing it would be…”
“Hmph.”
With a flick of her finger, she lit the cigarette.
That’s right.
She had just used holy fire to substitute for the lighter.
“Wow, this works?”
Seeing the Saint’s bright expression as she smiled happily.
I covered my face with my hands in exasperation.
As the sun was setting in the evening, today’s Academy schedule was also coming to an end.
Along with the smoking-addicted Saint.
