ISABELLA
The world was on fire, molten lava running along the ground like rivers. The sky was red, the air suffocating—pleasing to the demons. They were fighting, a hundred against one.
"Give up, Isabella. You will not win. There are more of us and just one of you," General Azazel said, his black eyes burning with fury. He was a high-ranking demon with green skin, a broad nose, fangs on both the top and bottom of his mouth, pointed ears, and two long black horns atop his flowing black hair. He wore red armor and a red cape, and in his hand was a long, sharp sword, its handle decorated with diamonds and rubies.
Isabella laughed. "You said the same thing when there were five hundred of you. Do you still think you can kill me? Is your tiny brain unable to comprehend that this isn't a battle—it's a slaughter? Give up now, and I'll spare the rest of your demons."
She smirked, her fangs showing. Isabella had pointed ears, black skin, long flowing white hair, and white feathered wings on either side of her. Her icy blue cat-like eyes gleamed with mirth, even in such a serious situation. She stood at 7 feet tall, wearing black armor with white designs etched into it. Her black tail, tipped with an arrowhead shape, swayed in anticipation. It, too, was white like her hair and wings. She had a bow and arrows on her back, and a bloody sword in her left hand.
The general was enraged. Four hundred of his men, dead—killed by a defective demon. It shouldn't be possible. Their king had ordered her death because she refused to torture a human. They were demons—that's what they did. But what he couldn't understand was how this demon, the king's daughter, was so powerful. She didn't look like other demons, and she didn't act like them either.
Azazel shook his head and gripped his sword tighter. He could sense the fear in his men, but they had to follow orders.
"Attack!" he shouted.
The demons surrounded Isabella, who laughed, setting herself into a defensive stance. "Well, I guess you want to die too," she said, smiling.
The demons began their assault, but she fought with expert ease, like a dancer with a sword. One by one, they fell, meeting the end of her blade. Soon, only thirty remained.
"You bitch!" General Azazel cursed, blood running from a cut on the side of his face and several other wounds on his body. He looked ragged, tightening his grip on his sword as he prepared to behead her. But suddenly, his sword broke in half. The end piece flew and stabbed one of his demon soldiers in the left eye, going straight through to the back of his skull. The demon dropped to his knees before collapsing.
Everyone watched in shock, then turned their attention to Isabella and General Azazel. There was a third figure now—a woman, 7 feet tall, with red skin, black glowing eyes, sharp fangs, and pointed ears. Her black hair swayed in the wind, and her long fingers, with sharp black nails, wrapped around a black glowing sword. It was the sword that had shattered Azazel's weapon.
Everyone dropped to their knees, recognizing the woman.
"My queen..." General Azazel was at a loss for words.
"Silence," Queen Lilith commanded, sheathing her sword at her side. She turned to Isabella, her daughter, and sighed. "Rise, child."
Isabella got up from her knees. "Hello, Mother. Fancy meeting you here."
Lilith smiled, always amused by Isabella's easygoing demeanor. "I heard what you've done, child."
"I'm not going to torture an innocent human to amuse my father or my siblings."
"Yes, well, you chopped off your brother's hand."
"He was preventing me from freeing the human. Besides, it will grow back."
Lilith sighed. She had always known Isabella was different from other demons—too compassionate.
"Father didn't have to send his army to kill me. He should have come to do the job himself."
Lilith sighed again and held her daughter's chin tenderly. "Because I love you, I'm going to banish you from the human world."
"What?!" Isabella exclaimed.
"Listen, child. I tried to convince your father to let you live, but he refused. However, he promised to leave you alone if I banished you. And I'm not going to lose my daughter because of who she is."
"Mother..." Isabella said softly.
Lilith's eyes softened. "There's nothing for you here, anyway. I can tell you're miserable. Go to the human world and live your life to the fullest. Maybe you'll meet your mate."
Isabella sighed. "I'll miss you, though."
"And why is that? You'll see me again. I'll visit every chance I get. And you know how to summon me when you need me."
Lilith stepped back and unwrapped her sword from her waist, handing it to Isabella. "Take this. It has served me well, and now it will serve you."
"But it's yours. I can't take it."
"Child, I can make another one."
"Okay..." Isabella relented.
Lilith touched Isabella's forehead, and in an instant, she was gone. Isabella found herself standing in the middle of a house, holding her mother's sword.
