Romantic Troubles of Duanmu-kun

Episode 83.5 - Volume 3 Afterword & New Volume Preview

Hello everyone! This is Midsummer Night’s Dream.

And so, our injury-free orthodox school romance comedy has finally reached its third volume.

This volume’s themes were “play within a play” and “a story that misleads readers with lots of mystery setup, only to reveal nothing actually happened that day!”

…That said, I ended up abandoning the second theme (everything from ep1 to the False End can be considered part of this) and made quite a few changes to the planned content.

Well, I hope you’ll let me save that idea for later use. And hopefully you won’t get fooled then! (laughs)

Now for some explanations.

Regarding Chapter Breaks

There seems to be some misunderstanding about this in the comments… The chapters in this book generally aim for 2,000 characters each after the content is decided. It’s basically just about word count, so there’s no intentional cliffhanging.

It might be related to the mystery elements in this book. But pursuing “dramatic ups and downs” and engagement in a story is perfectly normal. Any author who seriously considers their story’s flow should create this kind of experience… it’s just a matter of degree.

If you read a story where chapter endings never give you this feeling, I don’t want to criticize others lightly, but it might mean the author is just writing content that’s “dispensable” in terms of plot and theme, nothing more.

As for this book, I can’t and don’t want to do that. Actually, controlling the word count is simply because “I don’t want to pad the content”—in simple terms, to control the number of chapters. Each volume is around thirty chapters. It’s a simple but forceful training method to avoid unconsciously padding content and ensure every chapter written has value for existing.

I hope everyone can understand this.

Regarding Updates

Overall, it’s such a pain.

Coming up with stories is painful, and the writing process isn’t easy. I’m amazing for maintaining steady updates! Though that said…

…As for the 2,000 characters per day thing, I don’t really have anything special to say in my defense.

Ehehe~ ☆

Next Volume Preview

“Volume 4: Asami Yuko and Mass Suicide”

—Two weeks after the internal turmoil at “VMO.”

Before the height of summer arrives, several mass suicide incidents occur in Tokyo’s city districts, sparking widespread social attention and discussion about the “suicide wave.”

Of course, this has nothing to do with the Novelist, who’s forced by a certain female teacher to join his first club activity—about to welcome an orthodox school romance development.

…At least, that’s what he thinks.

“Welcome to the ○○ Club, Assistant-kun—”

Near summer vacation, the Novelist meets the school’s famous eccentric, Asami-senpai.

So, what will it be this time?

“Delinquent Harem Rejection Club,” “Flirting with Ice Queen Cat Lady and Idiot Queen Club,” “Chuunibyou Needs More Homework Club,” “Supposedly Classical Literature Research But Secretly Flash Grenade Practice Club,” “If This Actually Existed IRL Earth-kun Would Be Doomed Club”…

Whatever it is, bring it all on!

And so, the daily romance comedy celebrating youth at Private Yuihara High School raises its curtain once again—

TL Note: Phew. Finally finished with 3 volumes. And just to note, the buildup starts from here and keeps on increasing with every volume interlinked to another. Since I have mass released the full volume 3 at once, I’ll continue with my regular 5-7 chaps/week which might be released all at once on the weekend.
