Roar of the Anjanath

Chapter 8: A new occurence

The hunter trio, consisting of Elise, Zephyr and their leader, Jonas, arrive to see Evans, maw covered in blood from the now dead rathalos. They watch as Evans then proceeds to dig through the corpse as if looking for something. Sure enough, to their shock, Evans pulls out a crystal like object. It gleams with a blood red hue, further shining under the evening sun, as if many have shed their very life essence to make this otherworldly gem. "Its my lucky Day! although you still belong in hell, I'll still pay some respect to you corpse" Evans gleefully stated. If he still had human- like vocal cords, the trio nearby would have been appalled to know that a Wyvern, the very things they hunt, can speak their language.

As Evans turns around to head home, jewel in jaw, he sees the group staring back at him

"..."

"..."

"SHIT!" Still recovering from his fight with the flying fire blaster and not wanting to relinquish his new treasure, Evans didn't need to think twice about his next action. And before the still awestruck hunters, He jumped off the side of the tree-nest.

"Did... Did that anjanath just...jump?" Zephyr asked, giving himself a pinch to make sure he wasn't dreaming

"Yes, yes it did." Jonas replied, trying to maintain his cool demeanor.

"THE DAMN THING KILLED A RATHALOS! AND TOOK ITS GEM! WHAT IS THIS NOW!?" Elise, now awoken from the recent events, began seething at the fact that not only had their target escaped AGAIN, but took what possibly was a treasure worth hundreds of thousands in zenni.

"What do we do now Capt?"

"Our original mission. Lets head back to report in person, The Commander certainly wont like this news."

Evans meanwhile, dashes through the forest smashing trees and stones that would stand in his way. "Seems like its time to move. Although I'm strong, my gut tells me that those three aren't the average hunter. DAMN! I didn't even get to enjoy my nest for that long and now I gotta find another!"

Evans suddenly feels the air is more dry, and something grating on his skin. He stops his mad dash to gather his bearings, now realizing that there are a lot less trees in the area. "Sand, dry air, blistering sun... did i arrive in a desert? then that must mean... I reached the Wildspire waste!?" Indeed, Evans has stumbled his way into an entirely new ecosystem, One that is somewhat more unforgiving than the forest he emerged from. If it weren't for his body's cold-blooded nature, the sun would have felt like a piercing ray, digging into every cell. Instead, it was like a nice summer breeze for Evans, causing him to let out an involuntary growl of content.

"I could get used to this. Now back to the matter at hand: the gem." Evans, now sure he lost his pursuers for the time being, inspect his new gains. He can feel the bioenergy pulsing through the shining star now in his grasp. Brash idea in mind, Evans, places the gem in his jaws, and swallows it whole.

"MMM! that was pretty good actually! Tastes spicy too.. a little too spicy." And before he knew it, he felt every fiber of his being burning, as if he had gotten too close to the sun. "HOT! HOT! god, why is it so hot!?" After shaking his head vigorously, colliding with the nearby canyons from time to time, he finally feels the burning sensation dissipate. Glad that its over Evans began to inspect himself, seeing what had changed, if anything. "So what happened? What a rip-off, your telling me that I did that-" While complaining he felt his nose it.

ACHOO!

And to the astonishment of Evans, he sneezed out a massive blue fireball. The azure flame continued forward, fast approaching a herd of apceros. Frightened, they huddle together, their shells posed to protect them. However, the flame crashes into them, exploding on impact. What remains of the shelled creatures is now only ashes, flying freely within the wind.

"...WOW! now that was powerful!" Elated to see that the gem has possibly improved his flame sac, Evans now begins to search for a new nest to call his own. Traveling for a while, Evans sees how vast the Wildspire really is. From the Wedge beetles hanging high above his head to the para and sleep toads, dangerously close to his toes, He could feel that, although this place is supposed to be a wasteland, it is surprisingly full of life. Evans than spots within the field a stone-like platform." Perfect! This will be my new resting area." Evans chose this spot for two main reasons. Firstly, the high ground provided ensures he can not only see further, but literally get the jump on any foolish enough to get close. The other is that it would possibly be an amazing basking spot. ' Hehe, now my scales will be very toasty~' Grinning like a loon, Evans settles down for the night.

By the dawn of the next morning, Evans can be seen to be peacefully sleeping, wounds fully patched and scales warm from the first morning rays

THWACK!

Then, out of nowhere, something impacts Evans nose, interrupting him from his sleep. Groggily, Evans lifts his head and looks around, and what he sees gives him slight pause. '...You cant be serious...' standing before his bewildered eyes is a hunter, weapon drawn. This one seems to be a rookie, judging by the poor looking bone hammer in his hands and the leather armor still wrapping him. The weirdest part, however, was what was on his head- a moss swine mask. The strange clad hunter then said "An anjanath? Not the best matchup, but i still need to test this weapon. Come at me!"

Evans, already tired as it is, ignores the hunter and goes back to sleep.

"...."

"DID IT JUST IGNORE ME!?" the hunter, surprised, blinks, confused at this unusual behavior from the supposedly fiercest wyvern amongst the ancient forrest. After his initial shock the hunt then decides to hit the anjanath on the head, both to test the hammer, and to get back at the creature that had humiliated him. Building momentum, the hunter jumps and brings forth the full weight of his weapon, air whistling as it comes crashing down.

CRACK!

To the pigheaded fool's horror, his weapon snaps by the handle, the head flying into the sand nearby. 'Yup, that did it, BURN!' Understandably pissed now that the hunter still decided to attack with the poor excuse of a weapon, Evans whips his head towards the now frightened hunter, and releases a torrent of red flames, leaving the hunter charred, but barely alive. He then kicks the immobile hunter towards the direction he came from. "You'll serve as a good warning to those other fools." Having settled this strange encounter, Evans went out to get lunch.
