Chapter 10: Dance of the Dunces
The Next day, as Evans was scratching his back with the help of one of the stone pillars further north, He spots something in the distance. He ignores it at first thinking it has nothing to do with him, but as it gets closer he realizes what is. A Barroth. And not just any Barroth, the very same one he wrestled to the ground, as evidence of the chips in its head plate. Evans dodges to the side as the Barroth, like a steam train, crashes into the pillar he was just at.
"This guy cant be serious now.." watching the now stuck Barroth, Evans, Speechless as to what just happened, simply walks away. 'Gotta give the wyvern credit though, he sure knows how to make an entrance.'
With that, over the next few days, the Barroth kept appearing, challenging Evans, who simply subdued the creature time and time again. Sometimes, Evans would even practice new wrestling moves on it, such as the most recent leg drop, kicking the big slag of mud right into another wall. Other times, he would just lead the Barroth to some random wyvern and watch the two fight. All in all, Evans found this Particular Barroth funny, Evan deciding to give it a name. " Imma call you Droll, just because of how much you make me laugh" The Barroth, now known to Evans as Droll lays on the floor, contemplating how to best this annoying anjanath.
One sunny afternoon, Evans was basking in the sun as usual when suddenly, long quiet instincts told him to move. Without hesitation, Evans rolls of the ledge of his platform and just in time too, as where his previous location was now split into two "Damn! I almost had it too!" a voice said. Evans looks to his right and sees two male hunters. Unlike the previous few he has seen, these two look like they have been through many fights and lived to tell the tale.
The hunter on the left was a tall, lanky man, with armor seemingly made from countless kulu-ya-Ku. On his face is a handlebar mustache properly cared for and glistening. His weapon of choice is the charge blade, a somewhat unexpected choice based on how stringy he seems. "Told ya you should've gotten closer Kane, now the beast knows we're here," His partner, Rein said.
Rein appears to be the exact opposite of Kane. If His partner was described as gentlemanly, Rein would be considered the savage of the two. His beard, untamed and still greasy from his meal before setting off, swayed in the wind. In his hands is a lance and a large shield. 'Oh boy, an offense and defense type of party.' Evans grimaced in his head. While coming up with a plan, The duo continue to speak, as if Evans wasn't even there.
"So what if he Knows? we are the Stalwart duo, nothing could take us down," Kane said, taking pride in his and his brothers shining reputation in the guild. Many rookies even choose the same weapons they use, dreaming to be like their idols in terms of skill. "Whatever, lets get this over with, there's a chicken leg back home with my name on it." Rein moves in front of his brother as both focus on the anjanath silently observing them.
'Lets see if that shield will hold up' Evans then shot a large stream of flames at Rein, Who hoisted his shield into the Fire stream's path. Rein is forced back slightly but still manages to hold his ground, splitting the sea of flames right down the middle, leaving the brothers unharmed. As Evans finished with his now ineffective attack, from the corner of his eye he sees Kane falling from the air, sword posed to stab his head. Reacting fast, Evans swats the side of the great sword with his tail, launching Kane away from him.
Unfortunately, Evans is rewarded for his efforts with a stab in the leg by Rein, who charged in as Kane was knocked away. Evans attempts to stomp Rein, but is blocked. Rein, With astonishing strength manages to hold the fierce jaw wyvern's foot back. "Any day now Kane!" "I'm on it!" Kane, having returned, was able to land on Evans' back and began stabbing him with a small dagger, as he was unable to draw his great sword for the time being.
Shink, Shink Shink !
With a roar of pain, Evans roams around the area, trying to shake Kane of, With Rein chasing not far behind. "Off you go!" Evans then slams his shoulder into a nearby cliff, leaving Kane airborne. Now free of the nuisance on his back, Evans launches a fireball at the Great sword user. "Shit!" working fast, Kane puts as much of his sword in front of him as possible, avoiding being burnt, but still being hit by the shockwave produced. "Kane!" "I'm fine. The reports were true that this is no ordinary foe." Kane kneeled to the ground as his brother came to support him.
'Reports? crap, it seems like the guild is really aware of me now!' Evans, gleaming new info, is now dreading what they have in plan for him.
Rein Then says "Kane, i think we should use THAT move." Kane remains, silent for a bit, as if weighing the pros and cons of the suggestion. "Alright. though when this is over, you owe me some gear repairs." " Fine, lets do this!"
'That move? what on earth are they up to now?' Evans contemplates as he sees the brothers begin to move from each other.
