Road Survival, I Have a Hint System!

Chapter 13: Making Dumplings

After taking a short rest, Zhang Tuohai opened the regional channel to see how everyone was doing.

As soon as he opened the channel, he was greeted with a flood of red death notifications.

Zhang Tuohai counted and saw that about two hundred people had died, mostly from quicksand or poisoning.

It was a lot fewer than yesterday.

It was unclear whether the survivors had become more cautious or if the high death rate had scared people off from exploring.

After a while, some people began showing off their loot in the chat channel.

“Hahaha, as expected of the <Challenge for the Brave>, the rewards are generous. I got a blue resource box and found a hot dog inside with a sausage!”

“A hot dog? That’s nothing. I got two sandwiches with bacon and lettuce inside. Jealous?”

“I’m not as lucky as you guys. I only got four apples. Anyone want to trade with me?”

The few who had found food started bragging on the regional channel, making those who stayed behind envious.

Seeing more and more people flaunting their gains, Zhang Tuohai figured that the participants of the <Challenge for the Brave> had all returned, and now was the time when resources were most plentiful—the perfect time to reap the benefits.

“Does anyone have flour? I’ll trade meat for it. I’m also looking for cooking oil,” Zhang Tuohai said.

“It’s the meat-selling boss from this morning!”

As soon as Zhang Tuohai spoke, people recognized him immediately.

“Boss, what do you need flour for?” someone asked.

“Nothing much. I got some meat, chives, and eggs. Looks like I have everything to make dumplings. If anyone wants some, just sign up and trade some resources,” Zhang Tuohai said with a smile.

Dumplings?

Those who were munching on hot dogs suddenly found them less appetizing.

Damn, they had gone through so much trouble just to get a hot dog, and they thought it was quite a good catch. But now the boss was already considering making dumplings? How could there be such a difference between people?

“Boss, I’d like to reserve a plate. Can I trade with apples? How about two apples?” someone immediately inquired in the regional channel.

“Boss, I don’t have any supplies. How about some gasoline?”

“Boss, I’ve only got twenty pieces of broken glass. Can I trade that?”

“Let’s not argue yet. Let’s get the flour first, or we’ll all just be eating stir-fried fillings,” Zhang Tuohai reassured everyone.

“I have 50 pounds of flour, but you’ll have to trade 50 pounds of braised meat for it!” Suddenly, a message popped up on the channel.

“?”

“Isn’t that price a bit outrageous?” Zhang Tuohai frowned.

Fifty pounds of flour and fifty pounds of braised meat are not of equal value at all.

Fifty pounds of flour, whether made into noodles or steamed buns, couldn’t compare to the energy and satiety provided by fifty pounds of meat.

Moreover, most people here couldn’t even make steamed buns or noodles. Flour would just go to waste in their hands.

Wouldn’t it be better to trade it for meat?

“So what? You’re the one who’s desperate for flour right now, and I’m not in a hurry. If you want it, trade fifty pounds of braised meat. If you want to trade, do it soon; tomorrow the price won’t be the same,” the person replied.

“And don’t forget, in this weather, meat won’t keep for long. I’ve got all the time in the world; do you?” The person was clearly confident in their position.

Seeing the reply, Zhang Tuohai sneered. This person was taking advantage of the fact that meat couldn’t be preserved for long.

However, Zhang Tuohai wasn’t about to let himself be manipulated.

Even if he couldn’t eat dumplings today, he wouldn’t let the other party get away with it.

Otherwise, everyone would think he was easy to push around, and getting good deals on supplies would become difficult in the future.

As for the issue of meat spoilage, that was no big deal. He could just render it into oil; dried meat could still last a while longer.

If pushed too far, Zhang Tuohai could simply stop selling supplies, and then we’d see who loses out.

Just as Zhang Tuohai was preparing to render the meat into oil, Su Mu sent him a private message.

“I have some flour, but only 20 pounds. Do you want it?” Su Mu asked.

“Of course. What would you like to trade for? I have meat, water, canned food, and flatbreads. You can have dumplings, too, but they’ll take a bit of time,” Zhang Tuohai replied.

“We don’t want anything fixed. We’d like to make an agreement,” Su Mu said.

“What kind of agreement?”

“From now until the disaster day, which is in six days, I can give you these 20 pounds of flour now. In return, you’ll be responsible for our meals for the next six days. Don’t worry, my sister and I don’t eat much, just about three taels per meal,” Su Mu said, a bit nervously.

Seeing Su Mu’s message, Zhang Tuohai began to calculate in his mind.

If the sisters ate three taels of flour per meal, that would be six taels for the two of them, and 1.8 pounds per day for three meals.

Including the disaster day, six days would be a total of 10.8 pounds.

He would still net nearly 10 pounds of flour.

And that’s not even counting the water added.

Even with some vegetables or shredded meat added, he would still come out ahead.

Moreover, agreeing to this deal could also tie down this big producer of blueprints, allowing him to collect more blueprints. It was a win-win situation.

This deal was worth it.

“Deal. Three meals a day, and I’ll make sure they’re hot, though the timing might not be exact since I still need to gather supplies,” Zhang Tuohai said.

“Then it’s settled. I’ll send the flour over now. Please accept it.”

[Su Mu has given you 20 pounds of flour.]

“Sister, did you just give him the flour? Do you really trust him? What if he cheats us?” Su Qi asked, worriedly.

“We don’t have a choice,” Su Mu sighed. “We don’t have a pot, stove, ignition tools, enough water, or firewood. Most importantly, we don’t know how to make noodles or steamed buns. The flour is just wasted with us. If we give it to him, at least we’ll have full meals for the next six days.”

“But what if he cheats you?” Su Qi asked.

“He shouldn’t,” Su Mu shook her head. “He kept his promise last time when we traded for braised meat. He even gave you an extra pig ear. Remember the taste?”

Hearing Su Mu’s words, Su Qi couldn’t help but lick her lips.

The pig ear had been so delicious.

She’d never known pig ear could taste so good.

“Besides, that’s secondary. The main thing is, he still needs to do business on the platform. If he cheats us, he’ll lose his credibility, and then he won’t be able to do business on the platform anymore. He won’t ruin his future for a small gain,” Su Mu explained.

“Let’s hope so.” After hearing Su Mu’s explanation, Su Qi could only nod in agreement.
