Chapter 32:The clash of steel and fire
The orcs continued riding forward, since the enemy knew they were coming; there was no point in sticking to stealth. They would rush the enemy and swiftly overpower them, drowning them in strength and power.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inside the base Horizon feed from the stealth probe was swiftly cut of. The holgramic panel instantly frozen. The last image it had transmitted was of a hulking figure riding atop a massive grey wolf and a magic caster who had somehow detected the drone.
Horizon recognized the creature from the adventurers memories. They were orcs, green skinned creatures that live for battle. They bore extreme strength but were weakened with the subpar intelligence.
The horde approaching him was of around 30 orcs, riding atop wolf mounts. They were all decked out in shabby armour as well as carrying rudimentary weapons. He had spotted an orc larger than most at the forefront of the horde, a crown of bones sat on its head. Their leader? Horizon questioned himself. He had to be for even his mount was different from the rest of the orcs.
"Prepare the defenses." He uttered. He had to prepare for their arrival, although he didn't how they had managed to locate him he would make sure he would exterminate them all. His eyes glowed brighter as hologrpahic screen appeared on his side, on their interfaces the world outside was displayed. These would be his eyes.
Sounds of mechanical clicks reverberated through the structure as the base began loading ammunition to the weapons up top. Power being supplied to the offensive drones at the bay. As they rapidly hummed to life, ready for deployment.
Horizon hummed satisfied, he had no intention of letting this creatures enter into his base, he would mow them down like cattle and then go after their home, no organics deserved to live. His red eyes glowed brighter as he awaited their arrival.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The orcs arrived Infront of the base, a towering black structure, they looked at it confused it was certainly odd, but no enemies were present. Everything was silent, too silent.
"No guards, no sentries?...Something is off" Bollock said to the chief.
Sounds of mechanical clicks filled the air, as Infront of them metal slits slit open revealing the barrels of machine guns. The orcs stared in confusion having never witnessed such a sight, but they didn't have time to react to what happened next.
The night lit ablaze. The turrets opened fire upon the unsuspecting nights.
BRRRRRR
Hundred of rounds lit up the night as the first line of orcs were shredded turned into into swiss cheese. The rounds easily piercing their rudimentary armour. 5 orcs instantly fell together with their mounts their bodies littered with large holes blood dripping from their corpses forming pools.
The orcs reacted albeit a bit late. Those with metal shields quickly took to the front shields raised absorbing the bullet fire for their comrades. The rounds splattered on the shields unable to pierce through to get to the orcs. The shield bearing orcs grunted as they were slowly being pushed back, the automated round fire being to much.
"HOLD THE LINE!!" Bollock shouted.
"SPIRITS SHEILD"
Suddenly a green barrier enveloped the orcs. The shots landed on the barrier with intensity but were unable to pierce it only causing a small ripple like a leaf landing on water.
"THEIR ATTACKS ARE USELESS AGAINST THE SPIRITS POWER" The shaman shouted at the top of his voice.
But Horizon wasn't done.
"Fire close range missiles."
From the ground 2 missile pods rose up, whirring into action as they swerved targeting the mage, a target Horizon put focus on. From the pods a volley of 10 missiles were fired. They swerved through the air leaving white streaking fog behind them.
They smashed onto the barrier with a cacophony of explosions instantly causing the barrier to shatter like glass when dropped. Another volley was launched landing in the middle of the orcs, explosion occurred throwing the orcs formation into disarray. Bodies parts flew into the air as 7 orcs instantly died in the explosion.
The rain of gunfire ceased as the turrets had run out of rounds.
Ghorruk seeing the death toll roared in furry " CHARGE, TEAR THEM TO PEICES."
The orcs surged forwards leaping over their dead comrades. Bolluk raised his axe appearing right before one of the missle pods.
"RAAHHHHH" With a roar, thick brown energy condensed on his axe as he brough it down, ripping the missile pod in two. It exploded launching him back, but he stood up brushing of the impact like it was nothing. With a roar he charged towards the enemy structure, a large toothy grin on his face.
The shaman in the back quickly began chanting a spell.
" Oh great spirit bring back the warriors whom have fallen to fight in your name once more."
"AWAKEN" he shouted.
Green mist like energy began spreading from his arms quickly travelling to the dead corpses of the orcs.
The corpses jerked unnaturally, and with a groan they stood back up, their muscles bulged, eyes glowing a sickly green, those whose limbs had been torn of slowly began to crawl under the shamans influence towards their original bodies. With a roar they lifted up their weapons charging at the structure, they had been turned into undead, unfeeling monsters that would follow the shamans every will, their instructions barge into the structure . That was where their true enemy was.
The shaman let out a raspy laugh as he stared at the undead orcs rushing towards the structure. As long as he was alive, they were sure to win this battle.
Horizon looked at the blatant necromancy in front of it. He couldn't allow that mage to live any more, because no matter how many died he would just bring them back to life. But he couldn't put full focus on that right now. The undead orcs were, approaching fast he needed to stop them.
"Activate close quarter combat protocol."
